    Legend of the Skyfish does have a lot going for it: an intriguing story, a cool gimmick, a beautiful Zelda-like aesthetic, and easy achievements. Unfortunately, the execution is rather fishy.

    Legend of the Skyfish began promisingly, skilfully luring the player in with tales of exciting music, beautiful visuals, intricate action puzzles and epic boss battles. Combined with the strange controls, technical glitches and much of the former mentioned missing, however, it became increasingly frustrating to play and slowly chipped away at my sanity. Sadly I wasn’t hooked as my patience soon wore fin, but at least the game wasn’t a complete pile of carp.

    In "Legend of the Skyfish" you play as Little Red hook a small girl who loses her entire village and brother when the monster The Skyfish invades her small town. She is rescued by the Moonwhale and so they begin their adventure together to stop the Skyfish.
    Her journey is over 45 hand painted levels covering 3 different areas. Each level is it's own island and you must find your way across it and it's puzzles equipped with only a fishing pole and the clothes on your back. All of these can be upgraded though by finding hidden chests. Different outfits give you more hearts, and different poles are stronger and the hook goes further. Each area looks different and has different enemy types. There is a swamp where you walk slow through it, that has cute hand drawn enemies like jellies that break into smaller ones when you hit them. Each area is different like this. Different style enemies and contraptions. There are timed switches that makes you solve the puzzle before it runs out. Switches for different colored doors, and so on. It mixes things up a little, but for me it still feels really repetitive. I had fun in spurts, but overall I was just hoping to find the end. It isn't like most Ratalaika where you get all the achievements early, but still want to finish the game any ways. You can't get them until completion, and your really hoping it ends soon. I think it's fun and interesting if you play it in chunks, but I played it straight through and kind of wished I hadn't.
    There are some really cool well drawn bosses, but their patterns make them super easy to just spam attack and beat them. You really never feel tested, and like you need to figure out their move sets. Overall I think it's a good game, but I just don't think it's great and the quality we are used to from Ratalaika. That is okay because they been releasing games every week all year that I have loved. They all can't be master pieces. Even though this one is still quality, it just wasn't for me. I could see a lot of people though liking this one the most though. It is one of those some will adore, and some will just like it. I fell into the like section for this one. It kind of reminds me of Bionic Commando meets LoLo so if that is something you'd be interesting in playing give it a shot. Let us know what you thought about it in the comments.

    Overall: 6.3 Still quality, but not my favorite from Ratalaika games. It could just be me with this one, but I found myself feeling like it had gone on way to long and repetitive.    … Expand

Most puzzles are quite simple i.e. if there's a switch on the ground to unlock them, and an unobstructed space behind a statue you can obviously push around. That is a tutorial level introduction to the game's mechanics and the problem solving never seems to get too much deeper along the journey. Unfortunately, that's basically the style of thought and challenges for the duration of your time with the game. Which is about four hours in total play time. There were only a few situations where I had to give real thought to what I needed to accomplish and complete the puzzle at hand, and even then similar cases are only basic puzzles in other games of yesteryear which obviously a value proved game cannot be expected to accomplish that scope. Legend Of The Skyfish tries to be an action-adventure game in the vein something similar to that of The Legend of Zelda, but it's but it just didn't quite make the mark. The combat is simple and the enemies aren't too bad. The Fishing rod too was a creative idea and I truly enjoyed the mechanics of it. Given the low price of admission I would suggest giving Legend Of The Skyfish a go. It's not overly complicated, has some nice ideas and may just be your cup 'o tea. If not, you're not out much for a four hour journey I felt worth my time in the end.… Expand
