The narrative and atmosphere are both great from start to finish and it’s easy to pick up and play. The puzzle elements are excellent, and for conundrum fans out there this delivers a bit of a treat. It can get tricky mind, so you’ll want to be aware of that, and there are definitely a few odd issues that crop up – the ease of getting lost and lack of mission signposting both worry.

I’m being a little unfair perhaps; clearly I struggled with the difficulty where others may just revel in it. If you’re of the puzzling mind, I would imagine that you’d get right along with Lake Ridden. The roughly 4 hour run time is just the right length to not over do things or start repeating puzzles too often. The atmosphere is finely tuned to where you’re never quite sure if something may just pop up behind you and the visuals and audio do a great job of sucking you in to the world. The story is quite engaging, though it’s a shame that some of the filler is locked behind those harder box puzzles.

Like usual, there is a mix of good and bad elements. I would say Lake Ridden has an equal amount of each that balance each other out. The quality of visuals and sound are high and the puzzles can prove difficult to most people. However, the backtracking and lack of a believable story set the game at just being pretty decent, but nothing you would rave about to all your peers. A map would have been a great addition to exploring, allowing you to mark areas of interest or just simply help you find your way if lost. If you have a craving for a supernatural puzzler, you’ll be content. If the story is what you’re after, you’ll likely be disappointed.

The year is 1988, and you play as Marie, and you've gone on a camping trip with your sister Sophie. Everything turns on end when Sophie goes missing, and the plot thickens as you find that other children have gone missing in these woods as well. Your journey through the woods brings to a cabin and campsite. Further in you find an abandoned manor and a nearby village. The creepy factor continues to grow as you pass along and through these areas. As you progress along you uncover the stories of the former inhabitants and the other missing children. The ominous music and dark, moody visuals lend to the looming feelings and thicken the air. The random sounds, and movement, even things flying from shelves add to the haunted overture the game tries to maintain. Exploration, investigation, and puzzle-solving build the core gameplay, and the darker story ties it all together. The story keeps you intrigued, wanting to push on to find out more, and find your sister. The puzzles range from fairly simplistic to nearly infuriating, but never unsolvable. Overall Lake Ridden is a well thought out, intriguing game, that's well worth the experience. Puzzle solvers should add this to their collection. Expand
