Knightin’+ on Xbox One delivers a nostalgic 16-bit romp through 80’s era The Legend Of Zelda and manages to deliver many of its core tenets in a satisfying and self-aware way. Whilst the game may only take up to a couple of hours to complete, the low price point, engaging gameplay and overall atmosphere make this a title worth looking into.

Knightin’+ is a fun dungeon scrolling adventure with some interesting challenging puzzle elements – and some infuriating warp puzzles. The game does look and feel like a retro dungeon crawler but the attack controls let the game down somewhat, and it is far too short. For those who would like a quick, fun dungeon crawler you can complete in an hour or so to bag some achievements, this might be a game to pick up, but if you’re after something more substantial then you’re better off looking elsewhere.

We got two Knight games come in our email this week so figured be fun to just mash them together. I hope no one minds. We will start first though with Muzt Die Studios "Knightin'+" I knew at first glance it's inspiration would be "The Legend of Zelda" but I didn't expect it to really do as well at capturing that as it did. When it was all over I was actually a little let down there wasn't more. You can't really expect much more though with that affordable price attached to it though. You certainly get 5 dollars worth, but I'm greedy , and I wanted more. Two more dungeons or a world between Dungeons. I just couldn't get enough. It is so good, I really hope we get Knightin'+ 2 Electric Sir Lootalot Boogaloo ya title needs a little work I know.
You play as Sir Lootalot a knight on a quest to make his way through 4 pretty epic Dungeons. They all feel like the original Zelda Castles. They are loaded with unique enemies with different attack styles. Tons of traps and puzzles, and especially LOOT !!! You will find Gold, Swords, Amulets, Magic Wands and so much more. The Puzzles are really challenging for the most part. Some of them can be kind of simple, but others will make you think. Keep your eyes peeled though there are hidden clues every where though that will aid in helping you solve them. You will start with 3 hearts but can find upgrades hidden away in chests, as well as a salesman that will sell you more. He even has keys, potions, and health and magic fill ups.
The attacks feel just perfect just like you remember in Zelda. A standard sword swipe as well as magic cast. You will find a new sword that will able you to do a powerful spinning attack that will do a lot of damage to a lot of enemies around you. The Amulets will allow you to do a dash attack that will hurt enemies, but also help you make your way through traps and crowded rooms. You can even get a upgrade that will leave a trail of fire to hurt enemies that walk or appear in it. You can also find a item that will allow you to travel to and from rooms through portals making it even more challenging to find your way around. It's just a whole lot of fun, and I wish i was seeing more people playing it. This is going to be one of those Modern Retro titles I always talk about that people will come back to when these consoles are considered "Retro" and do speed runs like they are with Nintendo and Sega consoles now. I would love to see people battling each other for finish times on Knightin'+ would be a really fun watch on Stream.
I love the original soundtrack as well. The music fits beautifully on the Dungeon select as well as in the Dungeons them selves. Really great music that I enjoyed while leaving the game running to write this review. I liked the varied Enemies as well. They all have different attack patterns, and ways to defeat them. It's cool when you come across one you haven't seen before, and you have to figure it out. The same goes for the bosses as well. They are really cute and adorable, but seriously deadly. You have to learn their attack patterns or you are going to die a lot. You can't just go in there swinging, they will take you out quick. I loved the challenge of them, and like the game I just wanted more. I really hope a sequel is on the way, because Knightin'+ just left me wishing for more content. More Bosses, More Dungeons, Maybe a World to explore. These guys delivered on this title, and I hope this isn't it.
You talk Ratalaika you have to talk Achievements. They are known for easy Achievements, and Knightin'+ is no different. You can Have them all early into level 3, but I know you won't stop there. Do your self a favor and finish this one. I know a lot quit when that last Achievement pops, but this title deserves more. It deserves completion. You will be glad you did.

    Pros:
    Zelda Clone that Delivers
    Music is very good
    Cool Enemies and Bosses
    Challenging Puzzles
    Easy Achievements
    Nice Price

    Cons:
Left me wanting more and more
    Too short

    Overall: 8.0
Knightin'+ is a Zelda clone finally worth talking about. It perfectly replicas those great Castles from the NES title and takes you back to how that felt. I loved it, and I can't say anything bad about it except that there isn't more of it.

With aKnightin' + is a 2D Top-Down Zelda-like 8-Bit Action Adventure. You play as Sir Lootsalot, a knight set out to gather fortune and fame. With a story that picks on its own cliche, you will challenge several dungeons built around the feel of older adventure games. Each dungeon is several levels with a 3x4 map grid. The puzzles have their root in each level, and subtle hits reveal the answers to each of the puzzles, so attention to the room details is pivotal. As you adventure around the few dungeons you will gather loot you can spend at the vendors scattered around the dungeons to get items that upgrade your ability to vanquish enemies. The gameplay is a bit slow, but this actually helps you in situations where the number of enemies seems overwhelming. The game isn't huge, but it provides an excellent experience. It's satire humor, and almost relaxed gameplay feels almost like a Zelda Parody. Although your overworld is simply a map, it grips the dungeon diving experience perfectly. The first dungeon is almost a tutorial in itself, introducing you to all the mechanics in the game, and preparing you for the more challenging dungeons that lie ahead. A fun game in a small, and well-priced package, I recomend this to anyone that enjoys dungeon dive games. Expand
