By fusing strategy elements, 2D side-scrolling and tower defence mechanics, Kingdom Two Crowns on Xbox One forges a game unlike any other. It has a widely unique approach to its gameplay loop. While it’s definitely not the first game to have players build during the day and survive the night (Minecraft, anyone?), Kingdom does it in a way that no one else has.

It may be a simple and repetitive game but Kingdom Two Crowns is oddly compelling and the new Dead Lands update offers even more content to sink your teeth into. In the end, it's a solid game to wind down with whenever you want to escape.

The presentation side of the game is absolutely brilliant in my opinion with both the visuals and sound design dripping with charm and style. The presentation side of the game is absolutely brilliant in my opinion with both the visuals and sound design dripping with charm and style. When you play with a friend the gameplay shines in all its glory and even though it’s enjoyable on your own I recommend you play the game with a friend. Exploration is key in the game and when exploring you get a very rewarding experience because there’s so much to explore and find. Strategy plays a big part in the grand scheme of things and these elements have been done well never becoming overbearing in the process. I really enjoyed the gameplay throughout my time with the game because it never seems to get dull or boring and it delivers in several areas. The difficulty can be a little too overbearing at times and you’ll definitely struggle a little when playing on your own. It would’ve been nice to have had more of a story present in the game because I think it would’ve combined with the game’s atmosphere extremely well. I love what the Kingdom series offers and that’s mainly because it always seems to throw up something different no matter how far you are into the game. Thankfully Kingdom: Two Crowns is no different but it does have an important and very enjoyable new addition, and that is co-op. Without a doubt the best way to play this game is with a friend because it always feels rewarding when played this way. It is also enjoyable when playing on your own as well, but you’ll find yourself getting frustrated when playing this way because the game’s difficulty curve can be a menace when you’re alone. This is probably the game’s only real problem which is impressive to say the least. Everything else is perfect in my opinion and exploring never gets dull due to the rewarding feeling you get when you’re deep in exploration. In fact I recommend that you explore greatly because you can see the game’s beauty and it also brings the strategy side of the game into play more. Speaking about strategy these elements are easy to understand and I like how they don’t become too overbearing whilst also retaining a lot of importance in them. At the end of the day then Kingdom: Two Crowns is a thoroughly enjoyable and fruitful experience that doesn’t disappoint and if you’re a fan of the series then this game is an absolute must buy. Two thumbs up! Expand
