Kine is an intensely entertaining and challenging puzzler dripping with charm. It has bags of character and will have you smiling from start to finish. I can’t say much more than do yourself a favour and buy this game.

Compared to similar games within this genre, Kine has far more levels and side quests to play so it is not really a disadvantage that it somewhat lacks the incentive to replay. For a puzzle game it is excellent but the music unfortunately detracts from the theme rather than enhancing it. It isn’t too challenging and the characters and story line are carefully integrated into each level which motivates the player to continue through to the end and makes it more enjoyable to play.

Every now and then though there’s a game that stands out in this genre and in my opinion these are the games you should choose because it makes playing these types of games to be fun instead of being stale. The new release Kine then is definitely more fun than stale because it has an abundance of charm and uniqueness dotted throughout it and it features a setting that hasn’t been used much over the years. I was also quite surprised that Kine has only had one developer behind it because it’s very well rounded with not many problems, so Gwen Frey should be really proud of Kine. So what makes Kine so charming and unique? A lot actually, and you’re introduced to this almost immediately thanks to the unusual and fantastic art style that has been created. This in turn then gives the story an extra layer which is pretty impressive to say the least because the story is already very charming featuring characters that are both enjoyable to play as and watch. Mechanically the game has very few problems as well so you don’t need to worry about the uniqueness and immersion being affected which is very impressive considering a game by a one dev studio. Obviously the most important thing about a puzzle game is its puzzles so how do they hold up in Kine? Despite some of them feeling a little overly difficult they do hold up pretty well throughout with plenty of creativity within them and of course this combined with the challenging aspect of the puzzles makes completing them a very rewarding experience to complete. Prepare yourself for a few frustrating moments though because things don’t always go as planned so some of the puzzles do require some thought and more patience than I have these days to complete. Thankfully the puzzles didn’t get in the way of the fun too much, so I did end up completing them without pulling out my eyebrows one hair at a time. As far as puzzle games go I would have to put Kine in the higher end of the genre because it just executes everything it does so well. Yes it may not be the best puzzle game I’ve ever played, but this is a game that thinks outside of the box instead of going with the usual and safe formulas we’re used to seeing in these types of games. If you’re a fan of puzzle games then and you’re looking for something different to try out then you need to get Kine immediately because I’ve no doubt that it will satisfy your puzzle cravings on your Xbox One.
