  • Summary: Inspired by modern and old-school shooters, InkSplosion is an arcade twin-stick shooter with endless levels that are decorated by colorful ammunition where the only real enemy is beating your previous high-score.

Even with it coming in with a small price to pay, if you’re after a twin-stick shooter that you can engage in for hours on end, this is certainly not one I’d recommend. But if you’ve got a couple quid lying around, then maybe, just maybe, you can find a small amount of enjoyment within InkSplosion.

Unfortunately not all simple games are like this and the ones that aren’t like that are often quickly forgotten. InkSplosion a new twin-stick shooter from Ratalaika Games can be fun at times, but in my opinion I think it’s a little lightweight in many areas and in the end there just isn’t enough to keep you occupied. Don’t get me wrong the game does have some plus points but there just isn’t enough of them. It does however have an addictive side to it at first and the gameplay’s simplistic style means it’s easy to carry on with, which is always good. The main problem with the gameplay is that you end up getting bored quite quickly and in my opinion the main reason for that is due to its lack of content. In terms of content the game really is sparse and the worst thing is that the content doesn’t have much variety. There are three modes in the game but unfortunately each mode basically plays out the same way, which is quite dissapointing. I was also disappointed and a little shocked that there were no multiplayer options included because this without a doubt would have given the game a lot more in terms of replayability. The lack of variety is unfortunately the biggest problem you will come across throughout your time with the game because it’s apparent in all areas. The weapons you can use in the game all feel the same and nothing much really stands out here. The same can also be said about the enemies you face as well. I managed to get all the achievements in this game in under an hour and that was mainly because each enemy played out the same way and in the end none of the enemies were really challenging. This is a shame because the game does have good points as well, but you forget about such good points like the very tight and responsive controls because the game just falls short most of the time. One thing however they did get spot on was the presentation side of the game. Visually the game may be simple but the art style mechanic has been done really well and does give the game a bit of uniqueness. The sound design is also simple but its also been implemented very well and in the end it combines with the game’s style perfectly. At the end of the day the price of the game may be its saving grace but don’t expect to be washed down with loads of content. This is a shame because if it had more content and variety then without a doubt InkSplosion would be getting an higher score from me, but as it stands I can’t really give it much of a recommendation at the moment. I like these type of old school shooter but this is way too hard it is no fun at all. Expand
