The additional abilities and gear system add a lot by allowing you to experiment with different combinations. Then there's the ever-changing Multiverse and Guild Multiverse which provide plenty of variety even for folks like me who usually don't engage in online play. It just keeps getting better with new additions like legendary gear and unique new fighters like Atom and the whole Ninja Turtle team. Still have my fingers crossed for Plastic Man to make an appearance! Expand

Injustice 2 contains a large amount of content for casual players. The excellent single player story coupled with individual stories in the multi verse mode. There is also extensive customization of characters in which you can even alter their playstyle. I have not been this impressed with a fighting game in a very long time.

I'll address the Negatives pointed out in the other user reviews here:

I'll address the Negatives pointed out in the other user reviews here:

    1. Graphics

Graphics preference is super subjective. Some people might think Super Smash Bros' graphics are better than Tekken and no one would be able to convince them otherwise. Injustice 2 looks gorgeous compared to any other fighting game. To say that Injustice 2's graphics aren't impressive, or just "ok", would really be a dishonest opinion.

Lighting, textures, shaders, character models, facial animations, particle and smoke effects, shadows... Netherrealms has really done a great job in the graphics department. Graphically, Injustice 2 has the BEST rendering of DC characters in a video game that you can find available today.

    2. Story

Opinions can vary greatly on this topic. The story doesn't hold a candle to other games known for their storytelling. Games like "The Last of Us", any of the Telltale games, "Red Dead Redemption", the Witcher series, the Mafia series, and many more... all these other games definitely have better stories. If Injustice 2 were to be compared to these titles, then yes, Injustice 2 would just be "ok". I would even say the story would be too simplistic.

If Injustice 2's story and it's in-game implementation were compared to other fighting games though, then this is a standard that Netherrealms has now totally set an incredibly high bar on. They have improved on the style they pioneered with 2011's Mortal Kombat. Netherrealms figured out how to tell an actual story in a fighting game and Injustice 2 is their most polished attempt at it. Playing through it feels like an interactive Hollywood DC movie and I mean this in the most positive way.

So... if Injustice 2's story and storytelling style is set against non-fighting games, it's just "ok". If set against other fighting games, it's fantastic!

    3. Music and Sound

Audio is, again, very subjective. I disagree with the negative opinion above. Injustice 2 is also awesome in the sound department. Injustice 2 is incredible when enjoyed with a really good set of headphones, or a really good home theatre system. The game has some hits and misses when it comes to the stage sound themes but there are a lot more hits than misses. Joker's amusement park theme could be straight from the upcoming "IT" movie in terms of creepy playfulness. Overall, the background music does it's job. It creates atmosphere and tension that isn't noticeable unless you stop and notice it. The sound of character effects... The sound of Darkseid's Omega beams, the bubbling of Swamp Thing's entrance, the ringing noise after getting hit with Black Canary's sonic cry, the impact of a Clash, the clang of Wonder Woman's shield throw, and many more... they are all really really satisfying!

    4. Netcode

Online play quality is affected by a lot of factors. What internet service you're on, your region, your, home network, your opponent's net service, his location, his home network set up...

In my experience, out of a sample of 20+ online matches, I had three matches where my opponent and I experienced animation stuttering that was bad enough for us to stop attacking each other until the stuttering would smoothen out. The lag always smoothened out for me. I'm on a 1GB fibre connection based out of Singapore. The game's matchmaking is smart enough to not match me with people with really bad connections. You are also always given a choice whether or not you want to accept an online match. The other player's ping information is shown when you are asked if you want to accept the match. If you only accept matches with players with good connections (yellow or green), you likely won't have any issues. I have not gotten any disconnections at all. In this age where AAA games still launch with poor online stability, the stability of the network itself during launch week is something Netherrealms should be commended for.

    5. Equipment/gear system

The overall gear system seemed a lot more game-altering on paper than it actually is in practice. Netherrealms wasn't kidding about the volume of gear available. There is a TON of gear in the game and unfortunately, it's management isn't as intuitive as one would hope.

The categorization of the gear is broken down by:
    - Rarity (common, rare, and epic)
    - Prefix/suffix naming convention similar to Diablo
    (Durable ___ High Tech Armor)
    (Solid ___ Armor)

It's a bit confusing to know what each prefix/suffix does but familiarity will come when you are focused on gearing up a specific character.

The aesthetic choice that the variety of gear gives you is very addictive. Netherrealms also added set items that give added set bonuses like Diablo 3. This makes the gear chase even more addictive.

The gear system has it's pros and cons. It gives me more reason to play but can still be polished more in Injustice 3.

I was never a big Mortal Kombat fan because of all the violence in said games, but the mechanics and the gameplay were so good that I was craving another game from the developers that had those mechanics, but less brutal death. Little did I know, we got it : Mortal Kombat VS DC universe. Injustice 2 offers a great diversity of ways to explore and play the game. For single player users there is the wacky multiverse with twists and turns in the events, the story mode (which BTW, has the best cinematics), The training mode and the tutorials. For the online warrior in you all, we can find one of the best online systems in a fighting game, I see little lag online in Injustice 2 and it's great. The roster boasts a diverse amount of characters that felt like they were missing from the first game (But I main Joker because he's fun and wacky) like : Scarecrow, Poison Ivy, Supergirl, Dr.Fate and Robin. With 9 DLC characters on the way and 3 of them already revealed (red hood, Starfire and Sub Zero) the content keeps coming. Now, let's talk about the fighting. Injustice boasts an incredibly easy to pick up button setup and a ton of tutorials to help the fighting newcomer. The combos that are given in the menu are only the base of how much you can do with each character considering that each one has different hurtboxes, hitboxes, frame data and most importantly : their character skill. Each character has a different way of beating the everloving crap out of your opponent, and it's that diversity that makes Injustice 2 one of the greats. To conclude, Injustice 2 is a fine tuned and polished fighting game with great characters, fantastic mechanics and gameplay, awesome single player and multi player options and of course the gear system, which allows you to customize your character to your liking and improve their stats, but these are negated in online ranked. Capcom should take some notes if it doesn't want to keep holding netherealm's beer. Expand

I dabbled in Mortal Kombat and street fighter when I was younger but barely ever play a fighting game. I first bought Injustice Gods Among Us when it first came out and didn't really play more than the story and a few online fights and a few fights against friends in couch co op. But man, did that change when I bought injustice 2 I've played around 45 hours of this game and it is soooo much fun.

Other reviewers (who claim to be avid fighting game enthusiasts) are knocking the AI and progression system a lot. Firstly. These people admittedly have put the game down after 2 days. I have not found the same issues as they. Yes Adam and blue beetle are total asses. But once you get to know their powers, timing, reach and rhythm they are totally beatable. Its about finding the opportune moment to use a certain move and know what moves your enemy can use to counteract it. You need to be as unpredictable as possible and for you to do these things, you need to learn your characters and know your enemy. Its that simple. I sincerely doubt these guys have given this game a proper shake.

There are a couple flaws I've found but nothing major. For instance, you can let the AI grind level your characters without input. This is not only a very lazy way of doing things but also prevents you from learning new moves. I've AI grinded a few times to get new gear but found this boring after a while and unexciting. So I went back to fighting every single match except for 2-3 bar difficulty in the multiverse. Those are no longer worth my time and I find a better challenge out of the 4-5 bar difficulties. The game is also slightly unforgiving if you mash in commands trying to complete a combo or special move. The game place best if you input every command sequentially and cleanly. After that you start feeling like a real pro. The last gripe is that Superman is still bad and hasn't learnt the error of his ways. This sucks because I love the character.

That being said, the story is interesting and leads off directly from the end of the first game, characters are varied and interesting and the game is drop dead gorgeous running on Unreal 4. 60fps here is fantastic and the moves comes with its own FPS analysis. Something I never dabbled in before but is interesting for those wanting to play professionally or use every ounce of competitive edge they can muster. The multiverse is varied and interesting and kinda like MK towers but better done IMHO. There are character specific earths in the multiverse to play to get that characters epic gear. The amount of gear obtained in the game from various sources can be slightly overwhelming and sometimes its a bit annoying having to clear up a characters inventory because if its full, gear cant be taken on. Although there is an overflow menu to get them back so that's not much of a problem. The game really shines in Guilds. Guild multiverse allows you to tackle multiple earth objectives in order to get some great rewards. Guild Motherboxes (loot boxes that carry gear, shaders and player cards as well as currency) are far better in guild multiverse than in the single player multiverse. The game teaches you not only the basics in the tutorial. But character specific tutorials which allow you to learn some combos that you can string together in practice and learn real killers. This I find pretty damn great. There's an AI defence and attack whereby you can set your strongest characters with their best gear and set their fighting style affinity in order to fight other peoples builds and have yours defend as well. Mother boxes are earned from this.

All in all. Don't believe the negativity of some of these reviewers. There is hundreds of hours of fun gameplay in this game and it is such an improvement over the last game.

This is one of the best times I have had playing a fighting game in the last couple of years! Players familiar with NetherRealm studios and their fighters will feel right at home. This game is very similar to its sister game Mortal Kombat X and Injustice: Gods Among Us. The controls and action are responsive and the combo system is awesome. Stringing together juggles and extending your combos are a required skill, and feel smooth and slick when you pull off complex combo strings. The cast of characters are varied with the usual archetypes represented. You have hard hitting but slow moving bruisers ( Atrocitus, Bane, Superman), Your Speedy combo-driven rush-down combatants ( The Flash, Black Canary, Cheetah), and your Ranged-Zoning fighters ( Deadshot, Doctor Fate, Green Arrow) and most characters are adequate in each role to an extent. The community is already calling for nerfs to Deadshot due to his extraordinary zoning and keep away tactics. However learning to dodge roll, teleport, and anticipate your opponent can poke holes in a Deadshot player’s game. Is he OP at this time?...Yes! Will players figure him out in a couple of weeks?…Yes also! The new dodge roll feature and air escapes are an awesome addition that even the playing field for getting around the majority of the zoning spammers and adds and extra wrinkle to the strategy element. The player abilities can be hit or miss, with some being amazing and others just being generic at best. The ability to unlock modifiers that augment or change the characters special ability is amazing and adds to the sense of customization. The Customization potential in this title is MASSIVE! Shaders, Gear unlocks, Premier Skins, and skills let the player augment the fighters in a way that makes the fighters unique to that specific player! Seeing what others in the community have done with with their fighters is refreshing and adds to the fun of playing a mirror match knowing that the two characters are not exactly alike.
The single player offerings in this title far exceed what most fighting games bring to the table. The Story mode is handled with the flair of a blockbuster film although there may be some plot holes present. I thoroughly enjoyed my time playing through the campaign and seeing the fighters interact with their universe and each other. This story picks up right where Injustice: Gods Among us left off. The campaign also forces you to familiarize yourself with the playstyles of the different characters as well…which is a good thing. I discovered that I actually enjoyed using characters that I may have not wanted to or thought of using before I gave them a spin in this mode. Completing this mode sets you up perfectly for the Multiverse Mode!
Multiverse Mode at its core is the same “Living Tower/Challenge Tower” system NetherRealm implemented in MKX and “Star Labs” in Injustice: Gods Among Us. This time each “tower” is a planet from somewhere in the vast multiverse that is available for a set amount of time. These planets then have multiple “challenge towers” with modifiers and rewards. I spend 80 percent of my time with the game in this mode. Earning loot is addictive and rewarding. The constant changing of planets means that there is always something new to see or do, and the implementation of this mode adds tons of replay value to an already stellar game! This will be where most people who enjoy single player action will spend their time.
The Multiplayer components are impressive as well! I didn’t experience lag at all while playing online via Xbox Live. These matches are either super competitive or you are getting your ass handed to you faster than The Flash on CRACK!!! This is a good thing though, it makes you want to learn more complex combo strings and tactics to improve your skills! The Guild system also lends a type of coop play mechanic where your guild point earnings help your guild unlock trophies and loot. This gives everyone in the guild a chance to contribute.

    Graphics
Experiencing this game on a 4k television with HDR is AMAZING! This game is one of the best looking fighters I have ever seen. The character models are great although I wish we had more buxom female models to balance out the muscular ones. The different shaders/gear/skins and animations all work well together to add variety. The lighting and particle effects are top notch and I find myself looking at small details on armor and in the background. There is always something new to see and discover thanks to the richly detailed graphics.

    Audio
The voice acting is superb. Many of the voice cast from the animated movies and shows are here to reprise their roles. The soundtrack is subtle and not overbearing. The sound effects are also very meaty and add a sense of depth and realism to the thudding power punches and kicks, or the zip of laser like blasts and explosions!

    Final Ne3rdom Score: 9.5/10

The campaign is absolutely spot on and is fun to play through although it could definitely be longer in my opinion. the multiverse gives you opportunities to enjoy the game in single player as well whilst earning cool prizes at the same time, you can make your favourite characters look awesome and give them cool attributes and abilities. Most of the game is decided by the player and your opportunities are almost endless making it very fun to play.
the online is very good although the matching system could be better as i (a level 35) have no chance against the level 50's and 60's that i keep being matched up with, other than a couple small flaws i believe that this game is visually stunning and definitely needs to be tried out if you're into any DC comics as well.

It's an incredibly fun game to just sit down and play, especially with someone else. Grinding can become a bit tedious at times, but not so much that it becomes boring. The micro-transactions bother me, but since they're limited to cosmetic changes for the most part, I don't mind quite as much. As for the DLC characters, I think they were fairly priced for what people get, although I would've preferred if they were just included with the game from the start. Overall, excellent game, feels good to play, and I'd recommend it to any DC or fighting game fan. Expand

The first Injustice game was a very good fighting game that made the MvC games put to shame but wasn't as good as the main fighting game released that year which was Mortal Kombat. Then when there was news of a sequel that I thought looked brilliant. Then also there was a new Mortal Kombat game and I thought that they both were going to be brilliant. But I most definitely preferred Injustice 2 over the first. This game took the great formula of the first game and made it to near perfection and making the character roster better in the way that they have a more easy to control move set that allows for better combos and subsequently even easier ways to pull them off. Also I definitely prefer the better story and character designs all of this culminate in my favourite Fighter game of all time. Expand

Very enjoyable and accessible fighting game. The character building adds an extra layer of depth that kept me engaged for a long time. I had a ton of fun building the perfect Catwoman to fit my play-style.

The story has a lot more heart than any movie offering from the DC Comics stable. [Sept 2017, p.65]

The fights are fun and flashy, with nice depth for players willing to spend the time learning those nuances. But Injustice 2 also sets a very high bar for content variety in a way that opens up the game to people who might just be fans of DC's heroes and villains, too. If you're open to the idea of a fighting game, you're almost certain to find something worth liking.

Injustice 2 is a fantastic fighting game with great visuals that is a lot of fun to play casually but with enough depth to master. The new Multiverse mode will keep you playing for a long time while you build the perfect Batman.
