    Serious Sam lovers will like seeing their beloved characters (and enemies) in a new game genre, but the good gameplay ideas quickly evaporate in a too repetitive and unevenly difficult experience.

    Intended to be a fast and frisky, the game falls in almost all its goals. With a protagonist who is supposed to be charismatic, its Minecraft style graphics makes you feel that every character is the same. Luck has more incidence in the game than your skill, and that makes you feel that doesn't matter what you do, will always depend on the world you are in.

    It’s packed full of destruction and most definitely builds adrenaline, and they are the two real big draws, but I’d be hugely impressed if you were still playing it on a consistent basis a week or two down the line.

    This game is the definition of okay. It’s not boring, there’s definitely enjoyment to be had, but what enjoyment there is is hindered by poor decisions.

    From the moment I Hate Running Backwards was first announced I must admit that I was quite intrigued and eager to get to grips with the gameFrom the moment I Hate Running Backwards was first announced I must admit that I was quite intrigued and eager to get to grips with the game because it did look like it had a unique side to it. Thankfully I Hate Running Backwards provided me with a lot of enjoyable moments, and even though it has a few shortcomings I still find it to be a decent addition to the Shoot-‘Em-Up genre. One of the most important things in a game like this is for them to have responsive controls and thankfully this game has just that. The controls remain fluid at all times and most important of all there simple and responsive, which means you can focus on the fun gameplay without worrying that the controls will let you down. Speaking about the gameplay to say I had fun would be a massive understatement, and the best thing is that no game ever plays out the same way so there is some replaybility present. You will however have to get used to the difficulty curve in the game because at the start it can be a little too difficult so expect to get frustrated every now and then. As you progress though you will notice that you get better and better and that’s mainly down to the very good unlockables you get along the way. Without a doubt each unlockable improves you considerably and it was very fun trying out each weapon because each weapon has a lot of variety going for it. The game also boasts a lot of variety when it comes to the enemies you face and destroying them feels very satisfying, which is a bonus. I will say though that the game is best enjoyed in short bursts because even though it does have variety in a few areas the gameplay is basically the same throughout. This isn’t a problem when playing with a friend but when you play on your own after a short while things can become a little tedious. You will also notice a few technichal issues during your time with the game as well, but thankfully the developers are releasing a patch and none of the issues are anything major so you can easily look past them. The presentation side of the game may not be to everybody’s liking, but I really enjoyed it and I think the visuals and sound design combined together really well and in a way they gave the game a little bit of uniqueness. At the end of the day I Hate Running Backwards may not be the best Shoot-‘Em-Up out there but it does what it sets out to do extremely well and that is provide you with fun and frantic action. Without a doubt this is a game I can see myself returning to time and time again and it does more than enough to get a recommendation from me.… Full Review »
