It's definitely true to the hitman series which definitely one of my favorites. However, this season and episodic release style is horrendous. Basically play then wait for new episode, such a buzzkill. Since when did gaming turning into a television series. Terrible idea, just release the game as a whole then do DLC. If more games do this, I will not buy, its absurd.

I will preface this with saying I think I lucked into getting as best an experience from this game as possible since I managed to get it discounted in a sale for the entire first season plus all the bonus stuff as well as me getting it once every episode was out and whatever bugs the game had were mostly fixed.

The Hitman series (And in all honestly stealth based games of any sort) were never my thing but I have fallen in love with Hitman. The game controls beautifully, it's responsive and nuanced without tipping into the point of becoming over complicated. The in game graphics do great justice to the maps created, another huge bonus point for me as I was pleasantly surprised by just how big and detailed each of the maps were. I've seen people complain about them being contrived and simplified but with what feels like hundreds of random NPCs and a multitude of mission significant characters (targets, guards, various staffs etc.) it makes each environment feel alive and organic. The story (at least what I've played of it thus far) is interesting and engaging and I was all caught up on the significance of the events portrayed just through some light reading and questions to a friend who is an avid Hitman fan.

My biggest plus of the whole thing is I think it really nails the freedom to experiment in the game. I understand that this is an integral feature of the Hitman series but this game seems to really come on leaps and bounds with it. Too many games spoon feed you information and hold your hand from start to finish but at worst this game leads you to an easy path to completion through some minimal exploring that in the end will not result in the most satisfying of assassinations. At best it will drop you in the middle of a map with little more than your targets names and let you run with it and I adore that. I am only part way through the story but have found myself repeatedly returning to the same few levels to try different methods time and again or even just trying to correct mistakes I made in previous runs.

With the live contracts and the variation it creates in the maps I can see myself having endless fun with this game. The assassination of the two burglars from Home Alone that went live recently not only entertained me on gimmick alone but in pursuing different targets that behave wildly different from the primary targets on the same level I stumbled upon details that allowed me to open up different paths or approaches upon replaying the original level.

As I said I feel like with my lack of prior experience of Hitman games, the reduced cost of the game and my purchasing it at the time of it being fully released and mostly fixed I have lucked into the optimal experience of this game but I do not at all feel like that diminishes the experience at all. This game has turned me into someone who will be looking to play through as much of the previous installments as possible as well as eagerly awaiting what comes next from the series.

The second installment Hitman 2: SA was never beaten by any Hitman franchise releses so far yet still, this is a VERY decent game excellen graphics, good gameplay control System is accurate and never failed so far, NPC's are smart and act in a very logical way.
Storyline could have been better and as I said: the atmosphere nears but does not reach H": SA levels.

All in all Hitman (2016) was very well worth the bucks. Replay value: high.

It's an always online game even though it is single player. And the severs are often down so you cannot play the game. They just released yet another big patch (a 13.6GB patch) which adds offline play, but it isn't fully offline play. The patch allows you to use weapons etc you have unlocked offline, but you still have to be connected online to get the unloackables. You also have to be connected online to access your game saves. It's ludicrous idea. Just make the whole thing offline. Save the online for live contracts and leave story mode offline as it should be. This game has a lot of big patches. 7GB patch here, a 13.6GB patch there. And they say there are more major patches to come in December. You cannot really choose weapons at the start of each level. You have a select few and have to unlock others. But unlocking them will take many, many replays. Some levels you aren't allowed any weapons and have to make use of what is in the game world. This ruins a level and makes replayability limited. I hate that idea. That idea is part of what made 2012's Hitman Absolution so bad. Don't take options away from Hitman, add and allow more options to add replay value. There are only 6 levels and i only found 2 of them good. Paris and Sapienza. They do attamept to recapture old Hitmans like 2006's beloved Hitman Blood Money. And they do succeed in some ways, but mostly fail. I could tell some of the levels i didn't like, like Thailand and Hakaido really try to hard to replicate Hitman Blood Money on a bigger scale. And i really wanted to like them. The maps are fine and give you a nostaligic feel of Hitman Blood Money, but the way the levels are designed simply isn't good or well planned. For example. Some targets will only walk around the same small part of a huge map, which makes the huge map feel a bit pointless. And they will walk around small but heavily populated areas which makes it hard to assassinate them. And to top it off targets are constantly followed around closely by bodygaurds. This makes assassinating them more of a chore than fun like in previous Hitman games. The episodic release was simply all kinds of wrong. Just give me a finished campaign game, no internet connection required, and leave me alone to play it. Realeasing episodic means you get 1 level that you can complete and get the jist of in a hour, then have to wait 3 months for another one. By that time you have moved on. And if you do return you have forgotten the controls and have to re-familiarize yourself with them everytime they release a new level. The fans have been saying way before 2012's Hitman Absolution. Just give us 12 to 15 Blood Money type levels on a disc and that's it. They failed to do that with Absolution, that wasn't even a Hitman game. Then this Hitman releases in bits and only has 6 levels. It makes early adopters feel like they have paid to be guinea pigs. What they do get right is big levels. Most of these levels are huge. Just a shame they aren't used properly. The graphics are good enough. Not the best looking game out there and not the worst. Just passable. Like a slightly prettier Hitman Absolution. Sound is ok. Jesper Kyd is sorely missed. You will also hear conversations repeated over and over while your waiting for your target to get into a place so you can assassinate them. And no matter where you are in the world the accents are mostly American, British and a couple of Australians. It takes away from the immersion. When your in Paris at a Paris fashion show, you expect some French accents in there. But it's mostly American. The American accents are annoying. I quite liked the British ones though. They seem to fit in quite nicely most of the time and are more plausable because of the British Empire. A few Thai people in Thailand with a British accent for example is very plausable. Or a few British accents at a Paris fashion show is also plausable as Britain is just across the pond and London is one of the big fashion capitals. But filling up every level with American accents just doesn't work. There is a bit of a story here and it's quite good. It's just short and incomplete as there are only 6 levels and this is only season 1. Another annoying thing is when playing the story. After you complete a level and watch a cutscene you can't simply continue on to the next. You have to go back to the main menu, find and re-select story to continue the story/campaign. There is no sniper briefcase either. You have to walk around with the sniper rifle visibly stuck to your back which alerts everyone unless you are disguised as badguy/guard. So it is pointless having it. And you have to unlock it and workout how to unlock it. There is a lot going on with this new Hitman and a couple of levels like Paris and Sapienza work quite well. The potential was there with other levels, the maps are great and huge, just poorly used. Expand

In summary, Hitman: Season One is an interesting side note in the series' saga but is not the next stop on anyone's list of destinations for where the series should go. Season Two will hopefully bring with it a host of needed changes and tweaks while maintaining the fundamentals of what makes this one still marginally a success for the standards of the series. Expand the voice acting so that it goes beyond the small-minded trash that the majority of this adventure's work was. Alleviate some of the more frustrating aspects of the game while maintaining the sense of urgency and cautious trial and error that Blood Money and Absolution elicited so well in players. And if you're going to continue with the episodic approach then definitely add more content between releases to alleviate boredom and to usher in more reasons for replaying singular missions.

Concept: Play as Agent 47, a hitman with a penchant for the elaborate and over the top, obscure kills that we've come to love and appreciate over the years.

Graphics: The game looks beautiful but sometimes the frames drop due to so many characters jammed into each mission's expansive environments.

Sound: NPC dialogue is a real waste and the team behind the dialogue is mostly comprised of apparently the same core people because you can easily differentiate persons one through six from each other in each setting. Get more voice actors in there.

Playability: Despite frustrating segments throughout, the controls never falter and for the most part are the saving grace of the experience.

Entertainment: Each mission offers a plethora of exploration but at the same time each brings with it different frustrations and can make replaying them more of a chore and bore than truly entertaining.

    Replay Value: Moderately High.

I had rough time starting the game because I only knew the linear gameplay from Absolution, and way expecting something along those lines. But after forcing myself through Paris I fell in love with this game, finishing all missions with 20/20 mastery, 100% challenges and Silent Assassin Suit Only + Sniper Assassin.

In addition, "Elusive Targets" are time-limited events that omits the ability to save your progress. If you fail, the mission is over and you're not given another chance to try again. Finally, the online "Contracts" mode from Absolution returns which allows you choose create missions and choose any created by the community. Overall, you can spend 100 hours on this Hitman reboot. This game is perfectly designed in everything. The AI is pretty smart, the locations are great and are very different from each others, and all the possible interactions availables in each level are formidable. It's clear by far that they worked a lot in this game; and they did a great job, the result is really satisfying.
What makes this game different in the stealth genre is the freedom it gives you. There is a huge amount of possible ways to perform and kill your targets. You can track some opportunities that are revealed as you explore the map and take advantage of them, or just do it by your own. In addition, there are many challenges to do, and you'll have to play each mission more than once if you want to complete them all; what makes it more replayable.

Expand
