Heroes of Hammerwatch: Ultimate Edition ended up surprising me in the best way possible. While I normally uninstall games once I’m done playing and reviewing them, this one has stayed in my nightly rotation when my friends are on to do a few runs. There’s so much depth and value here with near infinite gameplay that it becomes addictive, as you want to make your characters that much better with every run, even if it borders on being an arduous grind later on. It’s a lot to take in and figure out, and it will feel daunting at first, but put the time in and find some friends to play with and you’ll easily get your gold's worth with Heroes of Hammerwatch: Ultimate Edition.

The first few minutes of Heroes of Hammerwatch give a surprisingly accurate representation of the entire experience. As you look through the multitude of classes, multiple customization options and somewhat overwhelming overworld, it instils both a sense of dread and intrigue. Heroes of Hammerwatch - Ultimate Edition can be a little daunting, but there is just so much to love here.

Heroes of Hammerwatch rescues the essence of Gauntlet by offering a simple, direct and challenging rogue-lite. Very enjoyable if we play with friends, although monotonous and repetitive if we decide to play it alone.

Heroes of hammer watch is a solid retro style designed game. It's very reminiscent of Dungeons And Dragons for those of you that are a fanHeroes of hammer watch is a solid retro style designed game. It's very reminiscent of Dungeons And Dragons for those of you that are a fan it’s most definately a good start. You get all the original classes though you do have to buy a few and there is what they call mercenary mode for when you max your character at lvl 20. The levels do require alot of grinding in order to grow and you have to obtain items in your dungeon runs and actually escape with them in order for you to obtain your spoils. Your goal is to grow stronger and use the materials you find to build up your guild and town. The monsters start off easy and grow quickly. In dungeon style you can aggro a few at a time or try and take on several at once. The time I have spent with the game it’s definitely fun and remains challenging because you dont have a large surplus of health. There is a server option so I assume multiplayer is an option but I couldn’t give it a try it because no one was online playing at the times I did try. I am a huge fan of this franchise and look forward to grinding out each character to 20 and the locked ones as well. It not a die hard game, so for some it may not be their cup of tea but if your a fan of the franchise I say it's more than good. Just be ready for some grinding and if you’ve not played DND before now, it would be an excellent time to introduce yourself to the genre on your Xbox One. Full Review »
