Grizzland on Xbox One won’t set you back a whole lot with its modest asking price, so really it’s an acquired taste that a certain type of gamers will self-select into. If you’re old enough to remember playing Adventure on the Atari as a child, or are after an alternative and minimalist Metroidvania adventure, then Grizzland might be worth a look.

While it may not be visually appealing by todays standards, it does give pangs of nostalgia for simpler times in gaming. While using just 3 buttons to jump, slash with your sword or shoot arrows you'll navigate a strange world items to help you along your way as you undertake quests and adventures or various tasks, with a retro soundtrack I certainly felt like the experience was complete. That said, I found the actions of my character slightly sluggish and not allowing for well timed attacks and favoured mild button mashing. The old school retro stylings of this game can make it frustrating at times but a real satisfaction comes once you start making progress, also the plentiful hidden rooms to find with little quotes are always a bonus to find. This game is far from being for everyone. If you loved your atari or looking to experience old school gaming then check this out on your Xbox One. Expand
