I found the gameplay to be extremely fun because racing at high speeds and doing multiple flips always felt rewarding and exhilarating. There’s a decent selection of tracks for you to race on and the variety that’s present in them means things stay fresh and interesting for longer. The inclusion of a four-player split screen is fantastic because it’s very rare nowadays and it does make the game more fun and also give it replayability. I was slightly disappointed with the campaign mode in the game because it’s very basic and nothing much stands out. In terms of content the game doesn’t have a huge amount for you to get to grips with and in my opinion this makes the price of the game too high. Racing is fun for the most part I found the handling to be not as smooth and fluid as I would’ve liked it to be. Back in the day I can remember playing a fantastic little game called Rollcage and it was fantastic because it was unlike any other game I’d played before. Unfortunately there hasn’t really been many game’s since then that have captured that same formula, well that is until now. GRIP: Combat Racing may have a few shortcomings but it offers you an experience that’s very unique compared to most racing game’s out there. It also offers you a fun and at times very exhilarating experience as well and performing various flips always feels rewarding. You can also perform these flips in four-player split screen as well and whilst the handling was a little bit stiff at times it still remained fun when playing this way. Most of the problems the game has are small but for me the game has a big underlying issue and that is that it just doesn’t have enough content to warrant its high asking price. Despite this though GRIP: Combat Racing still does enough to get a solid recommendation from me because even though it’s in a crowded genre it stands out because it is unique in a number of areas and when in full flow your guaranteed to have a lot of fun with the game. I like GRIP, this is a fun game, and it is fast, and by fast I mean insanely fast.
This is a classic arcade type racer, that defies the laws of physics at every turn. You start off with your basic vehicle and then as you progress you can upgrade and get better vehicles. As you race you can race on almost any surface, which gives any race a whole new dimension literally.

As I said the game is fast but you never feel like you are not in control. And despite going at hundreds and hundreds of miles per hour, you can always pick up a power up that will give you a further speed boast. And talking of power ups, you can collect various weapons too, homing missiles, shields and so on.

The game play does however have a few flaws, some of the collision detection is annoying, you can go from 500 mph to 0 in an instant, and a couple of times from leading the race I hit the side of the finish line and ended up in last place. But this is nothing they wont be able to fix as various updates and bug fixes are released.

The soundtrack is awesome. As are the graphics.

This is a top game, a lot of fun, and I give it a strong 8/10

Only one word comes to mind when playing this game...exhilarating! Its a fusion of Wipeout, Rollcage and Pod...only with heart-thumping drum and bass soundtracks. It is hectic and all-over-the-place at times, but its fun to play. The one small issue is the customisation of each vehicle, which is not vast or variable like that of NFS or Midnight Club.

I love the idea of being able to race on practically any surface. It adds depth to an already crazy fast racer. With so many customizable parts, modes, and multiplayer options, you’ll find enough content for hours upon hours of gameplay. Unfortunately, the combat aspect is bland and could have used a lot more creativity. It averages out the game to being, well, average. It can get a bit repetitive but then again I’m not a huge fan of racing games, though I’ve played a lot. What I am a huge fan of, is combat racing like Blur which has a heavy focus on combat that actually changes the outcome of the race. GRIP was fast enough to be first in speed but comes last in vehicle combat.

No doubt there are many others that will enjoy Grip just as much as I didn’t, and as a game, it's not so poor that I wouldn't recommend it. In fact, it's quite the opposite. If you get the chance, play a round of Grip or two to see what you think. There is fun to be had, but as far as comparing it to the fast-pace racers that got my blood pumping growing up, Grip is laps behind.

While GRIP is very enjoyable and plays wonderfully in singleplayer, it falls apart the second you try to access the multiplayer. This effectively strips you of half of what the game has to offer, and it's hard to recommend buying while the game is in this state.
