For $10 it’s a great diversion from your regular go-to titles if you simply want a break from the norm. While Grim Legends 2 wasn’t very challenging overall, save for a sliding puzzle or two, it doesn’t wear out its welcome. Even though it’s a sequel, it’s still a great title to jump into if you’re new to the genre and looking for a relaxing HOG puzzle game, even if it doesn’t necessarily add anything new.

Both experienced players and newcomers to the genre will still get some fun and enjoyment out of Grim Legends 2, but be aware that this isn’t the greatest Artifex Mundi title on offer.

Compared to some past entries, Song of the Dark Swan‘s visuals look even more vivid and sharper than ever before, and altogether are more beautiful to look at. Even if you don’t particularly enjoy this simplistic style of game, you can appreciate the well-crafted artwork.

Despite its name, Grim Legends 2 has no story links with Grim Legends, meaning that both Artifex Mundi veterans and newcomers alike can enjoy the game. The Brothers Grimm fairy tale upon which the game is based makes the story feel stronger and the characters more believable, even if there aren't many surprises. The standard point and click gameplay returns along with Artifex Mundi's customary hidden object games and this works relatively well with just a couple of very minor hiccups. There's a lack of alternative to the hidden object gameplay but there's a bonus chapter to make up for it. While it might not be the best title that Artifex Mundi has released, it's a fitting and competent middle installment to the Grim Legends trilogy.

It’s again the broken record time. Grim Legends 2: Song of the Dark Swan is an amusement spent well and I so love these games where you’re not in a constant mortal danger. The strong start made me disappointed by the rest of the game which didn’t live up to the first promises. Luckily the bonus chapter saved the day. I’m pretty sure the best Artifex Mundi game is yet to be seen as an Xbox One conversion. Meanwhile, I keep playing these casual adventures with great pleasure.

If it isn’t clear by now, my feelings are mixed on this title. On one hand, it doesn’t do much more than the previous titles. Although when previously used ideas show up, they are executed well. While it doesn’t have the best animation it could, it has decent voice acting (compared to other Artifex Mundi games). I’m not one to oversimplify things, but I think it’s fair to say that Grim Legends 2 is one of the better Artifex Mundi games while not quite being the best it could be. I would suggest this to gamers looking to introduce non-gamers to some easy to play games or fans of casual puzzle games.
