The biggest issue is that this experience is just way too short, especially for the amount it costs to have it. You can get many of the books at this cost! If you haven’t read any of them, then I would highly advise against buying this game. If you have, then I would just give you a little warning. The gameplay is mediocre and the story is a lesser version of the movies. The only real delight you’ll get from it is the fact that it has characters from the Goosebumps universe. I dream for the day we can see a larger universe to explore with many more references to the books, besides just the handful they keep reusing.

Goosebumps Dead of Night is a fun game to experience but an unenjoyable game to play. It's hard to say suffering through the gameplay is worth the interesting storyline, but it's easy to say that Goosebumps Dead of Night is not worth its $30 price point. Players can pick up an R. L. Stine novel for a third of the price and enjoy the same style of writing without suffering through an unpolished nightmare.

I can just imagine some kid saving up their allowance to buy this pricey meatball and crying afterward.

Goosebumps was a popular Scholastic book series that startedWell I'm sure I don't have to explain what "Goosebumps" is, but I will any ways. Goosebumps was a popular Scholastic book series that started in 1992, and since has taken the world by storm. I wonder if Robert Lawrence Stine could have imagined how huge his work would be, and would still be going strong today? It massed over 100's of books, an amazing television series, multiple movies and video games as well. Today we are talking about "Dead of Night" the follow up to "Night of Scares" from 2015. Jack Black reprises his role as R.L. Stine and does an outstanding job with his voice acting. You play as a boy named Twist, and you are trying to find the pages missing from a book that can trap Slappy in it. You know with "Goosebumps" huge library there are tons of other creatures there as well. like the Graveyard Ghouls, Lawn Gnomes, Annihilator 3000, Murder the Clown, and the Werewolf of Fever Swamp and so many more. My favorite are the Gummi Bears, but the scariest is without question the Ghoul lady that moves around the house looking for you. Moaning loudly as you hear her footsteps draw closer. The first stage actually has a lot of really creepy moments, and I enjoyed it the most by far. In a dark house looking for book pages while a creepy clown, werewolf, and ghoul girl chase you around really surprisingly did creep me out more than i expected from a children's game. The Garden gnomes wobbling around trying to steal my book pages did keep it light though and comical as well. The first stage is just amazing and so much fun, i wish the rest of the game was more like it. I'm not saying the rest isn't fun or anything I'm just saying it's more about solving puzzles then it is scares.
All the enemies will give you a scary jump scare "Game Over" screen, but you load right in from last checkpoint. There isn't much penalty for failure. I think it is some what rewarded because there are Achievements from dying from each enemy type. I of course had to grab those, and was glad I did because I really liked the Game over screens. Like i said earlier there are 3 levels, and the second is a laboratory where you must make a potion to cure your self from turning into a plant. There you will find Venus Flytraps, Killer fish, A Scientist and his daughter who have became plants them selves, and Killer Bees and Plants. This level is just really puzzle solving and decision making. It isn't really scary at all.The story and decision making though really pull you in. Trying to decide what is the best potion to make and take. There are also traps on this level as well that make you pay more attention to your environment. This was probably my least favorite of the 3 stories, but was still quite fun and entertaining. I believe it was the shortest level as well.
The third story finds you working with Tesla to find his energy gun and to have your final show down with Slappy. It is really a whole lot of puzzle solving, and with out question the longest of the levels. You have to try and connect circuits and pull levers to progress through it while being attacked by little Robots, Witches, Ghouls, and the best of the bunch the Giant Gummi Bears. It is so fun to blast them with the energy gun and watch them melt into pieces. You have to be careful though because they pull back together, and make their way back after you. That is one of my favorite segments of the game right before the final confrontation with Slappy. You can knock out all three of these levels in under 2 hours. That was my first play though so maybe even quicker if you are returning to it , and actually know what to do. That really is where my first negative comes in. I loved everything else. The Voice acting is great, the music outstanding, the characters all really wonderful Goosebumps creations. It's just really hard to recommend it for $40 dollars. If this was a $20 dollar game and under 2 hours I could say yes go for it. It is well developed, creepy, and has really fun Achievements. It made me want to check out more Goosebumps stories to be honest. I just couldn't get behind the price. Yes I received a review copy, but I'm still here telling people my opinion as If I didn't. If you are a huge "Goosebumps" fan or just have the income $40 doesn't mean much to you. Go ahead you won't regret it at all. Its beautifully put together game. If you don't fall into that description you may want to wait on a sale.

    This game is actually good..
Goosebumps Dead of Night is a 2 and a half hour long babys first survival horror game and I cant believe Im saying this, but this is one of the most enjoyable horror games I’ve played this year.
The game is based loosly on the 2015 goosebumps movie staring jack black, here youre tasked with at first running around this mansion in searh of 10 pages to put slappy back inside, youre told to look everywhere, cuppboards, closets, bookshelves.. and you do just that.. at first dodging a mummy, but as you get closer and closer to finishing the book more monster are introduced like these annoying gnomes that steal your pages and run, a clown that attacks you if youre in the dark for too long.. this section of the game makes up the majority.. and it is a thrill.. so many jumpscares and goofy yet terrifying moments… I felt the joy of walking through a haunted house… I was enjoying every moment. .and then I got to the basement..
one of the most annoying sections in a game ive every played… im going to save you the pain, throw the gnomes at him.. I don’t care if thats spoiling the puzzle of this section, alternate univers you is thanking me for that… and then its onto a section of gathering engredients, laser puzzles, a maze in a lab…
the game is so perfectly paced, you get excited to solve problems because of the pacing… it does a great job at narrating as you play so you know what to do or what to be looking for.. even what room to look for the item in.. my only complaint other than the basement is running, you get to run for 2 sections and youre out of breath.. 1 making the gnomes annoying, and 2 making the final 2 sections feel annoying as youre dealing with gummy bears and flying witches..
I would love to see a series of games based off of individual goosebumps books..
Dead of Night is a pleasant surprise and worth picking up.
I give Goosebumps: Dead of Night
