Feb 1, 2021Gods Will Fall doesn’t hold your hand. It can seem difficult when first playing, but it’s one of those games where you get better as you learn the mechanics and which bosses to tackle first, as well as their weaknesses. Eventually you’ll be breezing through most levels, picking up weapons and chucking them at enemies, parrying them and launching them off cliffs to their deaths left and right. You’ll feel like maybe you’re the god, and if something does happen to you, you have seven more chances. If you like hack and slash games but want more than an average challenge then this is the game to try. Clever Beans has done a great job designing a harsh and atmospheric world while also providing an excellent set of tools and mechanics to conquer it.

Jan 28, 2021I could spend a few hours telling you about the heroic conquests and heartbreaking losses of my merry band of soldiers. Instead, I’ll tell you that if you’re a fan of roguelikes, satisfying combat, and unique game design, then Gods Will Fall on Xbox is one of the best games that you can play. With its beautiful combination of random generation and concrete level design, it sets the bar high for any roguelikes that come after.
-
Jan 28, 2021Gods Will Fall knows how to mix roguelike concepts in his own way with challenging and fun combat. Small flaws in control will cloud the bottom line, but it will delight everyone who is drawn to his particular proposition. Very honest with its price, too.
-
Jan 29, 2021A beautifully crafted combination of RPG and rogue-like that contrasts with souls-like difficulty.
-
Jan 28, 2021Gods Will Fall is a solid adventure with some cool ideas that will satisfy your craving for challenge while it lasts.

CD-ActionSep 1, 2021I appreciate the game’s originality, appealing art style, replayability and combat mechanics that leave some room for tactics. I find randomizing the difficulty level irritating though. Sometimes you get to fight softies, sometimes the same level greets you with enemies that kill you with a single punch (hello, permadeath!). Loosing simply because you were unlucky and had to face an impossible dungeon does not feel great. [03/2021, p.39]

Feb 2, 2021Gods Will Fall also suffers from some bugs (including at least one I encountered as early as the tutorial, where I basically got stuck in a room with the way to move forward not opening, forcing me to restart), though I have hopes that these may be addressed in future updates. The controls can often be annoying, especially the parry, which relies on you rolling towards the enemy at just the right time, an exercise in frustration, especially when compared with the game’s lack of a lock on (which otherwise isn’t a problem at all, but does exacerbate the trouble with the parry system).
-
Jan 28, 2021For the most part I’ve found Gods Will Fall to be an enjoyable experience despite some frustrations. Many of its gods are ugly but it has a charming art style otherwise, while a sinister soundtrack perfectly sets the tone. And while the combat could do with some tweaking to make your bigger warriors feel more useful, it’s generally fair and fun. So, if you’re into rogue-likes and want a game that tries something new with the formula, you could do far worse than attempt to lead your band of warriors to success in Gods Will Fall.

Mar 3, 2021Gods Will Fall has some interesting ideas and on first glance the dynamic story events and risk-rewarding combat system are promising, but the game fails to provide meaningful variation. The design of the world and its cruel and twisted inhabitants are noteworthy, but sadly the gameplay fails to match the promising art design. As harsh as it sounds, there are just too many better rogue-likes on the market for this one to compete.

Jan 31, 2021Gods Will Fall is steeped in good ideas, but would have gained a lot by taking them further. Equipped with an effective artistic direction, unique bosses and dungeons, and a link mechanic that works, the game manages to make us want to play and replay in order to meet the proposed challenge, and manage to defeat the ten deities present. The proposed experience is therefore pleasant, and the studio really holds something. Sadly, Gods Will Fall constantly seems on restraint, leaving a lingering impression of superficiality and repetitiveness.

Mar 3, 2021Overall, Gods Will Fall was a rather decent experience. I won't lie; I wasn't a fan of gameplay in the beginning, most likely due to not being taught enough, and even now I'm not their biggest fan. However, for a player who is looking for something that will not hold your hand at all and drop you in a random cave with a bunch of enemies to kill, rinse and repeat... then Gods Will Fall may be your kind of game. If you are going to go ahead and give Gods Will Fall a try, you'll have to keep an open mind regarding its mechanics. I don't know about Gods falling, but I sure know I fell more than I'd like to admit. Nevertheless, I kept trucking along and trying different approaches. For now, I'll put my spear away and let the others go first.

Feb 10, 2021Gods Will Fall is very much a game that's almost there with a lot to like, but unfortunately it fades too quickly.
-
Jan 29, 2021Gods Will Fall is a good challenge for fans of difficult games. Players will have their skills and patience tested as they chip away at each god's realm, trying to reach the end. However, the game would benefit from difficulty level markers to guide players through the different realms so that strategizing for each godly battle isn't based on random guesses. Barriers should also be added to help prevent accidental deaths when players are searching for items or enemies. Gods Will Fall delivers on its claim for difficult combat, but there are a few improvements that could make playability less frustrating for players, leaving room for quality-of-life changes in future patches.
