Geomatry Wars classic remains the true stand out home Arcade experience of the past 10 years however the introduction of spherical maps can lead to some outright frustrating moments in Adventure mode where your deaths never feel like they're entirely your own fault and may seem a bit cheap.

Geo Wars returns with a new, mind-bending, strategy-robbing twist: three-dimensional playing fields. While all the classic modes return from the previous entry, the titular "Dimensions" can be found in Adventure Mode. All 50 levels each have their own gimmick, and the novelty quickly wears off as you barely scrape by level after level, only to run up to a brick wall of a star prerequisite for a boss, forcing you to backtrack and grind geoms to upgrade your drone and super abilities, then constantly swap them out as you try and find the right combination for the level you're trying to just barely get two stars on, let alone three. Nine times out of ten, the three dimensional fields take away the strategy of hugging a wall, and turning your ship at the wrong time can lead to a horrendous camera angle that leads to enemies coming out of nowhere, or just plain spawning on top of you with absolutely no time to react, potentially leading you to a string of cheap deaths, undoubtedly within a hairbreadth of the 2-3 star score requirement. More than once I swore I hit the bomb button an instant before an enemy slammed into me; leading me to wonder why at this point, it doesn't automatically detonate upon enemy impact, if it's available, thus avoiding thrown controllers and expletives.

I'll be throwing this into the same group as the Trials franchise; a game easy to pick up to kill 15-30 minutes, before it becomes frustrating to the point where you wondered why you booted it up in the first place.

Awesome edition to the series, albeit frustratingly difficult to pick up 2 or 3 stars on a number of maps, thus making progression very slow in the story mode, but hey, I keep coming back for more, just one more try.....(2 hours later - still playing). Absolute quality and very challenging.

I know everyone has there opinion but I think TopHatJohn needs to rethink his. I believe the music only constitute for 9%, while I highly enjoyed GWE2's music, I think the new guy produce an equal quality of music. As for co-op in classic, that can be DLC (as they demonstrated with blood count). My only downfall thus far is reading the black holes (gravity wells as I use to explain them),I know everyone has there opinion but I think TopHatJohn needs to rethink his. My only downfall thus far is reading the black holes (gravity wells as I use to explain them), and the glitch me and my GF some how produce in giving her high scores on levels her account hasn't unlocked yet. Other than that, this is my new addiction and my x button is getting wore out!! >.< Expand

Fun, frustrating and a perfect geometry wars experience. Very smooth and runs great treating gamers to an experience that is both glitch free and thoughtful. Three stars is not easy but I appreciate the challenge that lies ahead.

A respectable attempt at adding variety to a modern classic, but one that fails to meet the lofty standards of its ancestors, though there's still fun to be had. [Issue#119, p.79]

The perfect arcade game, an adrenalinic and brutally challenging experience that will keep you glued to your joypad. For the more determined and capable players.

Feature bloat strips this of its purity, and in parts it's unwieldy and unsatisfying. But find a challenge that sparks your imagination, and you'll become surgically attached to the controller. [Feb 2015, p.75]
