Where Gears 4 was a disappointment, 5 is a lot more polished and the script was actually interesting. Graphics are top-tier for this generation of gaming and the controls are as smooth as butter. Didn’t realize there would be such an impactful choice at the end and the game would have an open ending! Can’t say this entry is anything special, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction! The combat and mobility of this game is very strange, the movement in general is something for people who really like TPS, in addition to the empty open world, story and lukewarm development, the game can even deliver very good graphics, but nothing too much.

Gears 5 was honestly a surprise for me, while the story this time around isn't that interesting, the gameplay mechanics are arguably the best in the series, the game feels very smooth to play, and the new additional mechanics are good.

It also includes two very open areas which you can explore in order to unlock new abilities or learn more things about the world. There aren't many things you can't do in them, and the side quests are very generic, but it's a nice attempt to make the game more re-playable and fun.

Lastly, the game takes a while to pick up, the pacing is sometimes weak and the desert area drags quite a lot, but in the end it's definitely a worthwhile experience.

As for the multiplayer, it works well, there's a decent amount of game modes to choose from, and there are many customization options.

    Final Rating: "Good" ~ 7/10.

While very beautiful, the game protagonist didn't click with me, the AI allies aren't that smart or helpful.
    Story was meh at best.

Im returning to this game years later and still a bugfest. It is not an engaging game, and very repatative, though with some fun moments throughout.

Good combat, good story, pretty bland open world snow and desert section but was fun using the sled to travel. Also missions felt quite distinct from each other, which is a big plus. Good visuals.
Campaign is a bit rubbish. The characters don't really get any complete or resonant arcs. The story is literally an entire games worth of fetch quests. The only meaningful story beat doesn't even get time to breathe.
Repetitive gameplay. It's a relatively fun action game but truly a 360 era game. I liked that the open world was short and sweet, but they're all go here and do

I liked that the open world was short and sweet, but they're all go here and do a shooting gallery. That being said the open worlds are soulless and the second open world just looks ugly.

Bit overhyped. That being said runs really well on xbsx with minimal frame drops. Quite buggy with some pop in.

If you want a mindless shooter on gamepass it's alright, just nothing special.

Welp even Gears 5 went woke! But as lame as this game was, especially the multiplayer, the gameplay and fantastic world design still shines throughout. I wish the team behind Gears 5 learned from Doom 2016 and Doom Eternals success though.

    Cons:

    - I found it also attributed to me finding the story boring. Second half of the game dragged on.. i just wanted it to end.

This game almost changed my opinion of the gears franchise, but alas the second half was dreadful.

O jogo é bom porque saiu na game pass? Não, infelizmente a história é rasa, personagens sem carisma, resumindo, Gears vem perdendo sua essência desde o 3.

I really wanted to like this game, I truly did. It starts out pretty great, but once I got to chapter 2 I just lost my desire to keep going. The graphics are the best part of this game easily, but I think I still prefer Gears 4’s aesthetic compared to 5. But I really can’t praise much else here. It’s a serviceable shooter, the minor changes they made to combat somehow turned me off from the shooting here. But when most enemies are bullet sponges, you just kinda brainlessly shoot until they explode. Really not engaging gameplay here guys. The story is ok I guess? I feel like I need to play the trilogy still to get some of the deeper plot here but I don’t think that would help at this point lol. Kait’s story is interesting, but as a character I just don’t find her that interesting. Same with the rest of the cast honestly, aside from Marcus obviously. When he told Fahz to stfu, that was probably the best part of the game. Overall, I just really didn’t have fun with this entry. I don’t think I’d ever play it again honestly. Expand

It's more Gears which you already know if it is for you or not. Decent enough title but for me, just too much more of the same and the open world sections only served to pad out the play time whilst adding nothing to the genre. Gunplay is great as always and the graphics are top notch.

I wavered between a 6 and 7 on this game. I was a huge gears fan from the original through gears 3. Gears 4 was decent with the exception of the random loot boxes and the season pass. The Gears 4 loot box horror is over, but the micro transactions are still bad. Initially Gears 5 was pushing their iron currency, but then later changed some items to cash only. Buying iron early on with cash while it was on sale only to see that some items went cash only, was pretty crappy. Gears 5 reminds me of a free to play game that survives, maybe thrives, based on some gamers buying micro transactions. Problem is, they sell the game for normal price, unless you use game pass. Maybe the fact that it released for free on Gamepass is why it was so stingy at launch with content. Expand

Gears 5 is an odd thing; it's neither a grand leap forwards, nor a complete rehash of what came before, and therefore sits somewhere in the middle of the two. On the whole, the improvements do outweigh the negatives (the non-linear approach to campaign levels and the small changes to horde mode being some of the most notable), and while The Coalition still has some work to do to really make the series its own, this is a far bolder and more varied approach the relatively safe Gears 4. If you love shooters and you want a good place to jump back into the series, this is perfect place to work the rust out of your lancer.

Gears 5 offers a solid portion of brutal action with several refreshing new things. If you have intentionally avoided games from this series, the fifth sequel probably won´t change your mind, but if you are looking for a quality action game and you are still a fan of multiplayer, try it. Gears 5 proposes a breathtaking solo campaign and a generous array of multiplayer modes. Even if the recipe remains classic, we really want to go through with it. The characters are rather well written, the environments are often spectacular, and Jack the robot adds some salt to the gameplay. A visual feast and glorious action game that perfectly demonstrate Xbox One X's true power.
