Fury Unleashed is a fantastic distraction title that may have released in the right real-world window while we all struggle with the staying at home setup of 2020. It’s also an easy game to just pick up and play with mechanics easy enough to master, but packed with a layer of challenge that is subtle and rewarding. Especially on the Hard difficulty level. Rogues aren’t usually my bag, and I’ve never been a massive fan of procedurally-generated worlds, but the “Lite” side of those things in Fury Unleashed make it a gem of a game to sink your teeth into.

Fury Unleashed manages to bring some fun combat and exploration to the rogue like genre that, even when a run fails, feels rewarding. A well-executed upgrade system, as well as plentiful loot found along the way, means that it’s rare to not find something new to play with, or a new tactic to use on each go. The comic styling works well too, though the music could’ve been a bit more impactful; a small knock on an otherwise brilliant title.

Roguelikes rarely feel as rewarding and enjoyable as Fury Unleashed and the fact that you can play it with a friend is a nice bonus.

While it doesn’t reinvent the wheel, Fury Unleashed on Xbox One is a love letter to old school platformers, 80’s action heroes and the truly expressive features of comic books. Adding onto this is the ability to bring a friend along in co-op with a glorious frenzy of bullets. It’s a game that promotes the vision of ‘one more go’ and constantly asks you to push yourself further.

A fun and challenging side-scrolling shooter with a Contra vibe; it's not particularly original, but it nailed its comic vibe and it can offer captivating challenges.

A rogue-like who keeps its promises and doesn't pretend to be anything else. A frenetic game, with a comic aesthetic, well built and that, despite some failures, is executed perfectly.

As Fury, you're on a quest to make your writer feel better about his trade. To do so you must blast and hack your way through the Comicbook pages and become the ultimate Hack and Blast Hero. The game is heavily set on kill combos and fast-paced action. You can even run a whole level on a single combo if you're fast enough. With a ton of weapons, and enemies the game is a non-stop action fest. Being a Rouge-Lite it's surprisingly forgiving in what you lose on death, but every time you die, you get stronger, and off to the pages of the comic once more. You will be in a constant state of Die and Retry, but this only furthers what you're capable of. The soundtrack is perfect for the mood and keeps the pace rolling. The graphics are creamy smooth, even in the most intense times. The controls are super responsive lending way to very satisfying gameplay. There is an easy mode, that's customizable, allowing you to tone down the game, great for new players. One of the most intense Run-And-Gun games I've played in a long time. Either new to the genre or a long time fan Fury unleased is a treat of a game. Full Review »

Since you can onlyI bought this game because I love old school side scrolling games. This game however is brutal in regards to difficulty. Since you can only play on easy or hard mode to get majority of the achievements you must play on hard. My biggest pet peeve is the zero starting weapon customization. On your play throughs you will find new weapons that are crucial to you advancing through the level. The problem is that the levels are randomly generated on each run so you never know where to find a weapon, or which one to get. Many times I'd be stuck finding only a pistol or shotgun, and my smg leaving me nearly zero hope of beating the bosses. The RNG is crazy in this, but overall it's still hell of a fun and ENRAGING time for dying over and over.

The #1 thing that will piss you off is the fall down or bash someone on the head feature. This requires you to push the joystick down and more times than not you either take damage or it doesn't work.

This would be fun also if they added online co-op mode since it's only local right now. I could see them adding more comic books in the future should this be successful.

If you are looking a difficult, and rage inducing time, but also fun this is worth the $20!
