Fishing Planet is an Online free to play, super immersive Fishing Sim. From bobbers to bottom Rigs, you'll want to go grab your folding chairFishing Planet is an Online free to play, super immersive Fishing Sim. From bobbers to bottom Rigs, you'll want to go grab your folding chair and drag it to your TV. With Tons of Rods and reels, Hundreds of bait and lure options, and over a hundred kinds of fish to catch, this is one of the most complete fishing games to date! Start off small with a simple rod, a bobber, and some bait, and work your way to fishing holes around the world. With a steep learning curve and several ways to fish the dozens of species, this game can keep you reeling for hours on end. The right Rod and Reel, with the right tackle, to catch the right fish, Fishing Planet has fishing to a science. The fish you pull up are nearly photo quality real, and you can even take a good look at them on your line. Pulling up my first fish with fight was a treat, just like landing that fish in real life, you just don't get to take it home and fry it up. The game isn't slow, It's fishing, but it is a bit tedious, and grindy. Everything costs in-game currency, bait, hardware, tackle, and travel will all have their price tags. How do you supplement these expenditures? You Fish! This game is not for everyone, if you don't like to go fishing, you likely won't enjoy this game. Personally I enjoy fishing, to the point that I've put hours into other games with fishing mechanics, just to fish. If you Love fishing, this game is a treat, with wonderful physics, great ambiance, and no mosquitoes! Expand

BUYER BEWARE: Not only is game grindy as heck, it's also first game that can become "Pay to Lose".

Check Reddit and forums; nobody will deny
BUYER BEWARE: Not only is game grindy as heck, it's also first game that can become "Pay to Lose".

Check Reddit and forums; nobody will deny there's experience PENALTIES in this game, which occur when using too good/strong of gear against a fish, which snowballs when buying premium gear. Anytime game perceives gear to be "overkill", player receives less experience per catch, already meaning you can only use specific gear, in specific places, at specific times. (Also *having* to only fish in specific places, at specific times, in a specific order, in order to grow -- doesn't matter if you like fishing in St. Croix, once level 40 or w/e, there's hardly any experience gained there, time to move on. Which becomes more infuriating when even in-game shop gear is level-locked. Want that better line that would make life so much easier?? It requires level 50, you're only 38, back to the grind.)

Even worse; since premium gear packs aren't going to sell "scrub" gear, you're essentially buying "overkill" gear, with higher durability, strength, drag, etc (without ANY warnings on the store of penalties).

Thus, with having bought lots of premium gear myself, for what I thought would be an enjoyable fishing immersion; I instead find my experience bar barely budges when catching fish... even when keeping the max weight/drag of gear relatively close to the fish I'm catching.

Ultimately, premium players/payers get *punished* to the point where FREE players using gear bought with in-game currency, can grow and level faster than premium gear users, due to free players gaining MORE experience points per catch. (So caution in shelling out RL money... in certain situations, you're paying more to LOSE experience gain.) And not suggesting premium gear users should gain more, just the same... which is even more clustered, since below this I point out how premium sub could be equally viewed as Pay to Win.

So, I really feel it's part of a bait and switch (pun intended) setup by devs. Once buying premium gear, to find there's a penalty, they also have "premium access/sub", trying to pressure those with their wallets out already to actually compete on gains with free players. The game even POINTS IT OUT when turning in fish, it shows largely and clearly, "this is the experience and money you would have received with premium".

Their constant nerfs throughout the years making this game more frustrating than fun, have been bad enough. But proven unspoken penalties for daring to want to give them money for a more immersive experience is BS.

Even more mind-numbingly dumb is level-locked fishing areas. I grew up fishing, and have fished some of the locale in the game, in real-life. It's not like I had to check my RL fishing license to make sure it was "level 36" before fishing at X-location... when that's *exactly* what happens in this game.

Game is also set up to burn out your in-game/premium currency between travel-costs, license prices, and amount to upgrade gear, lures, bait, attachments, etc.

Best advice: Cheaper and much less stressful to fish in real-life ***or*** finding a really good fishing game that's anything besides Fishing Planet.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I got into fishing this year but it’s early in the year so their are few bites, reading the description of this game I was excited to try it out. However playing the tutorial which limits you to no options and maybe 10sq ft of river was irritating enough. Cut to almost an hour into the game to have ZERO bites! You would think the developers(coming from a developer) would have increased or guaranteed a catch after 2-5 minutes in the TUTORIAL! Otherwise people like myself and from what I can tell from other reviews on different sites will not bother playing any longer and will leave the game all together and leaving terrible reviews on how poorly constructed this game is. I cannot imagine what the rest of the game would be like because I am not wasting 45 minutes of staring at a screen doing nothing in the hopes of catching what?!? 1 of 5-7 fish?!?!? Just to get past the tutorial !!!! You would have better luck sticking your third pinky in a bucket of water and catching a fish then you would in this game. Expand
