Apr 10, 2018Extinction lacks refinement and complexity, that much goes without saying. However, for those that seek a non-stop action-packed hack-and-slash adventure, there’s a lot to look forward to within. It may be repetitive in the long run, but there’s no denying that Extinction offers a decent story, empowering gameplay and enough content to merit a recommendation.

Apr 13, 2018Extinction is a well polished title set in a universe that has an interesting story. It always feels brilliant taking down a huge green beast, but it does get a bit tiring after a while; there really does need to be something else to the game’s bag of tricks to keep the interest high. It doesn’t help that Extinction comes in as a full priced game, and if it had some in around the £20-£30 price range, it would have felt much more at home.
-
Apr 9, 2018While there’s joy to be found in decapitating a seemingly-endless army of building-sized beasts that put up an immense fight, Extinction sadly never delivers a true killing blow in any one area, just a bunch of solid strikes with some notable misses.
-
May 11, 2018Extinction is the fearsome Giant that stumbles over your expectations and shatters them. Its careful aesthetics and its original design are languished in the face of flat and uncharismatic missions. Its frantic gameplay collides with design flaws and leaves this third attempt by Iron Galaxy in a simple try.
-
Apr 13, 2018Extinction isn't what it could have been. The story is a complete afterthought but in its throwback sort of way, it doesn't feel out of place. Frequent camera problems get in the way of battling the Ravenii, and overall Extinction fails to deliver on the one thing it must get right, its man versus beast moments. They might be giants, but they're definitely boring.
-
Apr 11, 2018While not an awful game, this is definitely not something I’m going to be overtly suggesting to my friends. The game is made up of a simple kind of fun and not any sort of deep and meaningful systems or mechanics. Topped off with a generic and negligible story, Extinction only manages to keep its head above water due to how fun chopping up ogres can be.
-
Apr 9, 2018Extinction shows a lot of promise, and it sometimes delivers, like when it comes to the engaging, acrobatic combat or the sheer scale of the Ravenii. Unfortunately, the repetitive mission types and gameplay and a clichéd fantasy tale make it feel like a shell of a game. Far from feeling like a full retail release, Extinction feels like one good idea run into the ground until you’re checking your watch, waiting for it to end.
-
Apr 10, 2018One look at Extinction’s artwork may conjure thoughts of Shadow of the Colossus and Attack on Titan. While attaining the scale of these games, it doesn’t succeed in delivering the awe factor of engaging a new giant. They all look the same and you know what you need to do to drop them. Extinction ends up being shallow, repetitive, frustrating, and little more.
-
Jun 3, 2018Great art direction and smooth combat show a desire to do well. Although the overall lack of control and the redundant experience can't save Extinction.
-
Apr 20, 2018Extinction is a game that feels like a novel idea that didn’t get fully fleshed out. I wanted to love it, but the repetition really drags it down. At a lower price or with a little more variety to the encounters this game could have been something special. As it stands though it is nigh impossible to recommend it.
-
Apr 11, 2018Extinction offers an interesting premise, but if feels underdeveloped in all its areas: story, gameplay, level design, graphics. The result is a boring and forgettable action game.
-
Apr 10, 2018A fine idea at its heart, Extinction ultimately falls flat on its arse thanks to a dearth of interesting objectives and gameplay sorely lacking in variety. Chucking in loads of content clearly isn't the answer when you're doing the same damn thing over and over again.
-
Apr 10, 2018Some will relish the gruesome spectacle and challenge, but Execution manages to transform giant-slaying into something of a chore.
-
Apr 30, 2018The core idea sounds fun and with a bit more polish and deepening of the Campaign Extinction could’ve been a pretty decent action-adventure hack-and-slash. As it is, it’s a poorly executed homage of far better games which, in all honesty, are far more worthy of your time.
-
Apr 19, 2018Though it's fun for the first few hours, Extinction ultimately offers a dull and repetitive experience that fails to compare to the game it was inspired by.
-
Apr 10, 2018Extinction is a game that presents serious problems in its gameplay due to the continuous drops in the frame rate, the content is scarce and becomes repetitive.
-
Apr 9, 2018Extinction shoots itself in the foot time and time again. It's so frustrating to see its good ideas buried under repetitive missions, a forgettable story, and embarrassing production values for its AAA price.
-
Official Xbox Magazine UKMay 26, 2018A poorly polished, poorly realised and remarkably underwhelming action game. [June 2018, p.82]

Apr 11, 2018This is an absolute horror show of a game and I cannot recommend anybody buy it or even accept it for free.
