Drive on Moscow is very unfriendly towards new players if you’re not willing to put in the time to learn all of its strategic intricacies, though if you put in the time and really plan ahead, there’s some great historical gameplay to be had within, even if it looks extremely bland and uninviting. Sure, it’s going to only satisfy a very specific niche, but those fans will most likely really enjoy this theatre of war.

Like Battle of the Bulge, Drive on Moscow does have some shortcomings but without a doubt it had more things going for it than against it and ultimately it provided me with quite a few enjoyable moments. Obviously the most important aspect of a game of this ilk is its strategy mechanics and I’m pleased to say that they got this spot on. Everything about the gameplay requires some thought and you end up becoming very immersed with the events that take place. The only problem is that even though you become very immersed you just don’t feel that it’s enough because it’s lacking quite a bit when it comes to the amount of content available to you. Don’t get me wrong the content that is present is good I just would’ve liked some more because that would’ve made the game have more replaybility. Something that I hate about strategy games is when everything is too complicated, but thankfully like their previous game they keep everything simple and this meant that I felt a lot more confident when going into combat. Despite feeling more confident I will say though that I did feel the gameplay to be a tad unfair at times and I would’ve liked to have seen the dice rolls to be a little more balanced because they can frustrate you quite a bit. The AI however didn’t frustrate me and I think they’ve made them both challenging and fair. They’ve also made the AI very realistic so they make moves you expect them to make instead of moves that don’t follow how things are developing. Whilst I enjoyed this game I can’t see it bringing any new fans to the table because there isn’t anything new or different which will make you change your mind about strategy games and ultimately this makes the game very niche. One of my favourite parts of the game was the presentation elements they went with. Visually the game really has a charming side to it and this makes being in battle even more fun and enjoyable. The sound design whilst not being anything special also does a good job of connecting with you and it combines with the visual side of the game really well. At the end of the day I must admit that I’ve grown to enjoy strategy games more over the last couple of years and games like this make me enjoy the genre even more. Don’t get me wrong not all people will like Drive on Moscow but those of you who really enjoy strategy games will thoroughly enjoy this game and that is more than enough to warrant a recommendation from me.
