Double Pug Switch is a challenging side scrolling platformer that requires good hand eye coordination for some quick responses. Although, very similar to The Impossible Game, the game does have a unique twist of adding the dimensional switching power as well as power ups and timed distance jumping. It also added its very own unique story, however comical it may be. I believe this game is a fun side scroller and shouldn’t be missed if you’re a fan of the genre. The current control mapping does make it harder, but can be worked around using console Accessory settings to remap controls for Xbox to however you may prefer. This game is appropriately priced for what it is and the amount of time of enjoyment you will get out of the game. The design is meant to be a cute, yet challenging game, to pick up and put down as you please and I know I will make my way back to finish Otis’ adventure.

If you’re up for a challenge, then Double Pug Switch certainly does offer that. It’s nicely presented, too; the short animated story scenes telling the tale of Otis, Whiskers and the scientist, are a welcome touch. As are the purely cosmetic hats you can place on Otis’ little puggy head. It’s short and utterly brutish in its difficulty, but if you like equal amounts of cuteness and cruelty in your games, then look no further. Especially considering its pocket-money price.

If you're a fan of endless runners then you'll probably enjoy Double Pug Switch but don't expect it to redefine the genre.

Double Pug Switch is a simple game, with simple controls, and a simple charm. It looks basic yet the difficulty ramps up to ensure things get very tricky, very quickly. It would be perfect for a short bash while on a car journey via Nintendo Switch, but on the Xbox One it’s a harder sell. Whatever you are playing it on though, if you like jumping and pugs, then by all means give it a whirl.

Double Pug Switch, the debut project from indie developer The Polygon Loft, is a platformer that sees you take command of a dimensionDouble Pug Switch, the debut project from indie developer The Polygon Loft, is a platformer that sees you take command of a dimension traveling pug across 32 bite-sized levels. It's out now on all recent platforms and only costs £6.99 here in the UK, but does it warrant your attention? You play as Otis, a pug who is on the receiving end of some experimental chemicals thanks to sabotage from a cat, and now you can zip between dimensions and must platform your way out of the world you’ve been sucked into. Now a game like this is designed to get frustrating, and can do so very quickly thanks to some absurd difficulty spikes, but both the comic art design and impressively uplifting soundtrack make it a joy to play through, while your patience remains. You’ll even be rewarded with both regular and purple coins as you explore, which can be used to unlock a wide variety of hats for your pug, with some knowing nods to pop culture references included among the whole silly collection. It helps to keep gameplay satisfying, and while I got angry at a few of the levels, I never got too frustrated to try again.
The level design itself is fairly strong throughout, with enough twists and turns added as you progress to keep the later levels and bosses feeling fresh to the finish line. While these punishing levels will take some patience to master, the charm and presentation help to keep you coming back. It’s a few more levels and some accessibility options short of being essential, but for platforming fans looking for a challenge this is a great purchase for the price.
