    The Dragon’s Lair Trilogy is incredibly fun. It’s a gorgeous, entertaining and painfully hard set of games but the gratification of getting to the next stage makes everything worthwhile.

    The main attraction here, without question, is Dragon’s Lair itself, but Space Ace and Time Warp make the trilogy a well-rounded ensemble. If you don’t already have all of these games in your collection, Dragon’s Lair Trilogy is a great way to fill that void, and the cost of admission is quite reasonable. So, as the narrator says, “Lead on, adventurer … your quest awaits!”, and it awaits you in the Xbox Store today.

    If you fondly remember the games and want to revisit them on your fancy modern console, sure, why not? Just bear in mind they might not be as engaging as you remember them to be.

    Sometimes, things are better left in the past, and Dragon’s Lair Trilogy is a prime example of that. The whole ordeal is far too dated, and comes with frustrations that are born through a few poor design choices and shoddy transitions. Whilst the animation on show is commendable even today, there’s no shaking the fact that this compilation comes across as totally unnecessary and utterly boring.

Despite that, this collection may not appeal to newcomers because it's made for people like myself who played the series many years ago. Dragon’s Lair first released back in 1983 as a smashing success because it offered players the chance to progress through an animated adventure for the first time as gaming technology hadn't reached the power that could be presented by this laser disc based arcade machine. The games playability suffers ultimately from the platform that it was created on, and for today's standard this is a trip down retro lane for people like myself. The Don Bluth games have been re-released many times since then on many different platforms. Thankfully the visual aspect of the game has definitely stood the test of time and playing through the 3 different games was a nice treat. Although there's not a great deal here for any newcomers to the series since the replay ability of this collection is limited. The difficulty level ranges from game to game and in the end you know what you're getting if you played the originals, and if not realize you're playing with technology that was released 36 years ago.… Full Review »

    Do you really have to review Dragon's Lair? Who hasn't heard of it, and knows it's beauty? We all that was around remember the first time we saw it in the arcade, and how blown away by the fact some one was controlling a cartoon. There was that guy who just mastered the game, and people lined up around to watch them play to see the cartoon parts we hadn't been able to get to ourselves. I've always loved these actual video games where you controlled a film. I've loved seeing it return with games like The Bunker and War Games. I also was a huge fan of them on console. I loved the 3DO when it was out games like Psychic Detective and Night Trap. I was glad to see Night Traps get a re-release as well.
    Dragon's Lair delivers 3 classics in Dragon's Lair 1 and 2 as well as Space Ace. They all look beautiful on today's consoles and the controls are spot on. I've read some negative reviews on it saying the controls don't work from a another reviewer who I've noticed seems to give every Indie or retro game low scores, so I want to make it clear the controls work perfectly. It's their skills, not the game. Dragon's Lair is just as amazing on consoles this generation as it was on the arcade floor at your local arcade. I'd say even better because it's loaded with features like a step by step tutorial on how to draw Dirk. You can watch the entire game played, and even every different death scene. You can adjust your skill level, and even how many men you have. It's just huge chuck of retro arcade goodness, and I couldn't stop until I collected every Achievement on it.

    A perfect modern return to the Arcade classics

    Overall: 8.0 I can't believe I'm reviewing one of the arcade classics I grew up in amazement with, today at home on my television. never thought I'd see gaming where it is today where not only can we be blown away by amazing graphics from games today, but can enjoy all the amazing classics from yesterdays as well.    … Full Review »
