The best homage that the old school RPG can get, but also a rendition to the new wave on the genre, adapted seamlessly to consoles.

A surprise gem, particularly in co-op. Be prepared to put in a bit of learning time, but it's well worth it so you can appreciate the unusual freedom at your fingertips. Also: you can talk to dogs. [Christmas 2015, p.69]

There isn’t much wrong with Original Sin outside of the fact that there simply may be too much of it. In a time when games are releasing on a weekly basis, this is a daunting experience that requires the utmost dedication. Still, for anyone who loves the turn-based genre, it doesn’t get much better than this.

Whether it be the finer details that the game gets so right, the brilliantly written script, the deep, addictive battle system or the simple fact that, Larian Studios have somehow managed to make it all work on a home console, the fact of the matter is; Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition, regardless of where you decide to play it, has to go down as one of the single finest Western RPGs released in the last five years.

There's little we can complain about. Divinity Original Sin still is an outstanding and unique experience, no matter what platform you play it on.

You can find RPGs that are prettier, more accessible, or less busy, but very few are as dedicated to the true spirit of role-playing as this one is.

Divinity: Original Sin - Enhanced Edition has come a really long way, from the solid and praised RPG to a totally redesigned project that brought a hardcore version of the genre to the new consoles. What a creditable achievement. [Issue#258]

It starts at the free choice of character (two persons) where you can decide freely about sex - super! The turn-based battles are also a fine break from the modern gameplays. The story is very interesting and well written dialogues. Unfortunately, there is no German Synchro of the spoken dialogue. The texts have been translated into German.
The inventory could be better resolved, but that would be my only criticism already. Nice that even those turn-based RPGs find their way to the consoles (Xbox One).

On the whole this is a pretty good game that will appeal to a niche market (jRPG fans should take note as this is a step up), but will unlikely find a wider audience given its mechanics and lack of polish.

    Pros:
Turn-based combat that depends on every stat of the character, which is controllable/ determined by you...from who attacks first, who attacks most, through damage, defense, etc. Very satisfying...but takes a while to get back into coming off of the action style games of today.

Character customization for the above reasons; allows vastly different approaches to the game.

Crafting is strong; again, only if you are into the time it takes to appreciate it. This is another niche appreciation.

Story is ok and although the physical footprint is not large, the combination of the above and the planing involved with approaching combat, so as not to be 1-shotted, the game takes 40+ hours to complete (maybe on easy mode it would take less, not sure).

While I don't play co-op, that you can fully lay the game co-op is a fantastic feature.

    Cons:
This game was clearly made on a PC budget, from visuals to voice acting this is very obviously not a AAA product (again, much like a jRPG)

Combat, at times, can be very unfair. It is far too easy to be 1-shot killed (not just "you", your whole party!!!!!) and, in a game with a true ironman mode, that is unconscionable.

Rock-paper-scissors is a ridiculous concept to resolving disputes...and I mean ridiculous.

Like too many games over the past few years, the games become more complex, but the tutorials do not, so your early enjoyment of the game is much less than it should be...and you lose a lot of people that are borderline RPG fans.

Camera angles (top down)/ screen colors are not great and it is fairly easy not to be able to see enemies during combat as they blend into the environment (not purposely)

Enemies/ creatures do not re-spawn, so there are only a set amount of xp in this game...once you are "done" a section, it is barren (except for the corpses) for the rest of the game...huge disappointment.

The combat is (surprisingly) amazing yet challenging, the game doesn't hold your hand, and I can already tell it has a ton of content. Even if you haven't played a turn-based combat game before (like myself), I think that you'll be glad you bought it. I can only hope the sequel comes to consoles. Full Review »
