The survivors will have to resist the nightmares of dead frost and hunger. As they try to escape the dangers of the long dark polar night and find the way to the shelter of the abandoned station, all they are doing is sinking deeper into a nightmare scenario.

When they fall asleep, they attract a terrifying force that sucks the life out of their bodies, but the longer they battle exhaustion and stay awake, the less likely they are to survive. All in all and Distrust is a very interesting proposition. The setting is great, very bleak and creepy, and the oppressive feeling as madness starts to close in is an effective one. With fresh levels each time and the overall challenge of the game, the longevity certainly appears to be secure.

There are a number of different characters you can play as and I was very impressed with how they made each character feel and play differently.
I loved how much variety there was present in the game because it made each quest feel fresh and it kept the gameplay interesting at all times. You can tell right from the get go that the survival mechanics have had a lot of thought and effort placed into them and this does give the survival elements quite a bit of depth. The game features an easy to pick up and play style and it doesn’t try to complicate things too much, which is great. The randomness can be a nice feature at times it did feel a little bit too luck-based, which was frustrating every now and then. The puzzles lack in terms of variety and they do become a little tedious after a short while. Does Distrust do enough to get a recommendation from me?This War of Mine was one of my favourite games of the year back in 2016 and in a way it made me interested in survival games again. As you can imagine then I was chomping at the bit to try out Distrust and whilst it’s not as good as This War of Mine as far as the survival genre goes it’s an excellent addition. Something that really impressed me about this game was how each character performed and acted. They are all completely different which means the game has a lot of depth and when you combine this depth with the excellent survival mechanics that have been implemented then you end up getting really attached to the game. That for me is how a survival game should be and when it’s all said and done it does everything I expect it to do perfectly well and in the end it gets a massive recommendation from me.
