I personally found the combat to be clunky, and underwhelming overall, in general just dreaded situations where combat was involved, and would just save cheese and continue my low chaos gameplay. Overall gameplay is fine, but can still feel clunky, and controls sometimes feel imprecise. Game can also feel repetitive, but I think it's the nature of the genre, i also just wished the bonecharms that you get from exploring would've been more than just really minor passive bonuses. In the end, this is a decent- good game, where you'll enjoy it's stealth and magic elements, but I think people will find equal amounts of pro and con's throughout every game element in dishonored 2.

My biggest complaint lies with Bethesda and Zenimax as the publisher and their continual pushing of product out when it's clearly not ready. This half baked launch ethic really hurts games like Dishonored 2 - and I have taken the approach that I will wait at least several months if not a year post release before playing a game published by them . With that being said, Arkane continues to build incredible games and wonderful worlds.

    TL;DNR

Great stealth action title with options to play in a variety of ways, excellent gameplay mechanics, good sound with a few issues, excellent musical score, great art direction and a solid story within a well developed world with well developed characters. The big take away is, however, that Bethesda and Zenimax continue as publishers to push out product in an unfinished state and hurt their games BADLY by doing so and damage their development team's reputation. Arkane is a great developer and should be afforded the time to get it right on launch.

    Game Play

Dishonored 2 plays very similarly to Dishonored and the gameplay is spot on for stealth action. While it is possible to play a more assault oriented style, it is, IMHO, more difficult than playing through in a stealth style - with the caveat that the ghost style - no detection and no deaths - is extremely difficult. I seem to default to an assault-non-lethal style of play (bodies get spotted, I get spotted, I just let you live...)

    Sound

I have one big issue with the game and that is the occasional sound problem - and it happens at the worst time - being a distortion of source to reception volume. On occasion an enemy will sound like they are right next to you - when in fact they are some distance and even floors above or below you and this can be deceiving. While never coaxing me to my death (thank god for vision abilities) it does take away immersion and game flow. Besides those few times this cropped up the sound and music are phenomenal.

    Graphics

Great graphical fidelity. I happen to really like its steampunk aesthetic and the world is very detailed and enjoyable to interact with and just look at.

    Story

The story is well told. The writing is fantastic, with a lot of deep lore should you choose to read the myriad of books and notes found throughout the world.

    Voice

The voice actors do a tremendous job and deliver great performances.

The sequel of one of the most surprising games from the past generation of consoles. A complete game that bring us the possibility to play with the protagonist of the first game, Corvo Attano, and with Emily Kaldwin, that will try to regain the throne that is usurped from her. A special game that is different from most of the games that you can find.

Dishonored is a great franchise. I love the lore, exploring all of the areas and finding the collectibles. The powers are awesome and the new game plus feature makes subsequent play throughs an absolute blast as you’re able to use your previously obtained runes to obtain all of the powers. Definitely worth playing.

The gameplay I'd probably say is a straight improvement, with the most appreciated additions being greater options for nonlethal play with Emily's powers; you don't feel like you're limiting yourself as much in a low chaos run. Overall though the gameplay additions are small, and more new stuff would have been nice. The setting is great, however; Karnaca is a lot more colorful and less depressing than Dunwall, with some particular standout levels like the Dust District/Manor level. Yet I found myself disappointed with the story; it just kinda fell flat by the end, with a really lame montage to wrap things up that doesn't even tie up all the loose ends. They basically made the same mistakes as they did with Dishonored 1's ending, which really confuses me. I think there's definitely lost potential here, but overall, it's a really fun game with excellent and refined gameplay, and remains at the top of the stealth genre. Expand

Paying with Emily and her unique set of powers refreshed the game experience more than anything else that was added in Dishonored 2 in relation to its predecessor. And that is one of the pitfalls of Dishonored 2 in my opinion: not a lot of new cool stuff. Besides the option to play with Emily, this game does not add a lot, and when it does (as with the clockwork soldiers and the artifact to transport through different timelines - which is awesome to use!), it under-explores these additions. The other shortcoming, in my opinion, is the story itself. Although the set-up for the game is full of potential, it does not go very deep and is extremely straightforward and simple (the first game had a crazy twist, remember? I was expecting some nice twist here too, but nope - what you see is what you get all along). Is it worth playing? If you liked the first one, hell yeah! Just don't expect novelty... this feels more like an expansion than sequel... Expand

Good value for money, in terms of length; certainly promotes further play throughs. Overall story a little lacklustre, which for a game that is quite narrative focus, is the only disappointment. Nevertheless, the mission specific narratives, which put you right in the centre, are well constructed.

A lot of complaints are surrounding the difficulty. Its a stealth game that requires a lot of thought. It was designed in that way. Take your time. I got a lot better towards the end, as you should, but never aggrieved by an apparent unfairness early on.

Sequels are a tough gig; for every Empire Strikes Back and Terminator 2 there is a Son of the Mask and Grease 2. Fortunately for Dishonored 2, it falls in the former category of great sequels. From the art direction to the mechanics, it is a beautiful game that makes you want to play again and again.

Set 15 years after the assassination of her mother, Emily Kaldwin is leads a double-life: by day she is the head of the monarchy and by night she is tutored by her father Corvo to be ready to protect herself in a time of need. Empress Emily feels more at home with the commoners than she does with society's elite; however, she continues on with her civic duties to keep everyone happy. A quick coup later and she’s forced to put her training into practice, with a little bit of help from the Outsider.

Much like the original, Dishonored 2 allows you to play in a number of different ways, from blood-thirsty assault to a ghost in the shadows. From the moment you take control of Emily or Corvo, there is an alternative to the hack-and-slash path, and you are rewarded for exploring non-lethal paths. Along the way, you are forced to make several choices with can result in you ultimately becoming a feared tyrant or a popular monarch.

Through new protagonist Emily Kaldwin, the void powers receive an upgrade. While many of the powers are small twists on Corvo’s original set of powers, new ideas such as Doppelganger and Domino introduce a new way of tackling problems. The latter is a visually ineffable as clear a room of NPCs in one swoop.

Each area feels different, with celebrity inventor Kirin Jindosh's Clockwork Mansion and Stilton’s Manor masterpieces of level design. Upon the first play-through, the mansion feels massive and complicated, but after several trips around the building and pulling several levers, you soon remember the layout and simplicity of it all.

Stilton’s Manor adds a new dimension to gameplay, add the ability to travel between time periods and attempt to stop a major event from happening. Switching between an empty, dilapidated manor and a pristine, fully-staffed building with the press of a button made the level exciting and full of wonder.

Overall, Dishonored 2 is a solid follow-up by Arkane Studios in a time where sequels can be treated as a cash grab. The storyline is engaging, especially with Emily Kaldwin, and rewards players for thinking about their movements and exploring their surroundings, no matter how small.

    2. The game play is even more enjoyable than in the first game. As always, you have a lot of options to complete your objectives. I personally prefer a complete stealth (no blood, no see, sometimes even ghost-like), and I've enjoyed both my playthroughs (ATM) very much.
    3. Both protagonists are nicely voiced, and they both talk a lot. Since I'm a devoted Stephen Russell's fan since 1998, I personally prefer to hear Corvo's voice :).
    4. The world around you is alive. The Karnaca's street musicians sing *nice* songs, and the people around hear and applaud them. The City Watch cops whine about their cloths and boots, and even sing sometimes, too :). People at Karnaca's port are doing their own business: fishing, sawing, selling, discussing, looking for job. You can share a coin with beggars, and they can tell something useful in return. You can save an innocent people from the City Watch's tyranny, and they will thank you for this. Also, there is a time travel in the game, and you'll have to change something in the past to reach your goals in the present. My first playthrough took more than 60 hours - isn't that nice?

    Bottom line: 9/10. Must have.

I'm a little over half way through this game and it is amazing. If you loved the first one, you will love the second. Levels are much more intricate and the AI (playing on hard) is much more difficult to deal with whether going stealth or complete murder machine. The powers are more in depth, and the atmosphere is perfect. Buy this game!

The world of Dishonored 2 allows for many ways to get to your destination, and like the first game you can complete the entire game without killing anyone. The soundtrack is also really good and makes some of the best parts of the game even cooler. The level design is also some of the most unique I have seen in any video game to date. With one level that is a mansion where you have to flip switches to navigate the entire mansion. Every level is like a puzzle that you must figure out on how you're going to get to your destination. Leveling up in this game has also been improved with an ability tree, and you also play though the entire game without any super natural powers. The story is a bit of a let down. It's not bad, but it feels more or less like the same story from the first game. The story overall is still great though. With so many ways to play, everyone who plays Dishonored 2 is going to have something a bit different. Expand

Dishonored 2 is just as good, if not better, than the first game. Level design is more complex and interesting, story missions are longer and more involved, the environments are dripping with atmosphere, and the gameplay -- some input lag aside -- is pitch perfect.

This is the best pure stealth game this generation.

The story in this game is very solid, way more complicated than that of the first game. and it kept me intrigued throughout the entire game. It is filled with a cast of weird and crazy (new or returning) characters which complements the very strange world Dishonored takes place in.However, The voice actors give some odd delivery for their characters which you'll have to get used to as the the story goes on. Also, I really wished more characters from the first game made an appearance such as Samuel the boatman, Pierro, or Daud. That really doesn't hurt the game too much because the narrative is just fine without them but its still a missed opportunity to please fans from the first game. The game is 9 levels in total each with creative level design and is filled with books, notes, and audio graphs to add to overarching lore.

The gameplay is something that Dishonored 2 excels at. It is clearly shown how much effort went into crafting the levels, powers, and world. Dishonored 2 is about choice and creativity so there are so many ways to pass levels with the large variety of powers you earn throughout the game. The freedom of choice is what makes Dishonored special and is what warrants multiple playthroughs. That is what makes the gameplay amazing in almost every way possible.

The performance in Dishonored 2 is unfortunately the weakest part of this game. I played this game at launch on Xbox One (runs at 60 fps for the most part on consoles) and to this day I still experience many frame rate drops during fights and just looking at scenery. Also, even though I have not played this game on PC, the port is still unacceptable in the state that it is in. However, they did announce a patch to fix these problems but they should have launched the game in an acceptable state for those who pre-ordered the game at full price. As for the graphics, the art style looks amazing during the jaw dropping scenery and those dark gritty moments.

In conclusion, Dishonored 2 is an amazing game that can last you a long time depending on how you play. It gives you the freedom to do whatever you want in each sandbox like level and it encourages creativity. Even though the frame rate drops are a problem, it doesn't undermine all the good that has been done here. To me, Dishonored 1 will always be the classic game but Dishonored 2 is an amazing sequel which can stand on its own.

This isn't good enough especially after such visually impressive games have been released of late such as TITAN FALL 2 & GEARS 4. Alarm bells began ringing when I failed to find any information online in relation to what resolution the game would be in. Indoor environments are acceptable & have very good attention to detail. Audio is superb as is the voice acting on every front & You can choose to play as a male or female role Emily (female) or Corvo (male) & combat, weapons & abilities feel fantastic. I'm only 3 hours in & I'm very satisfied with my purchase & it's definitey one of the better stealth games I've had the pleasure of playing in recent years. A 10 score would be accurate & justified if Arkane had put a little extra love & time into the presentation & visuals in areas though this still could go down as a CLASSIC especially if there's a patch forthcoming for minor bugs and graphics . :) Collapse Expand

One big point of criticism for at least for me is the same problem I had with the recent Assassin's Creed, it is too easy to fight big groups of enemies, I killed 4 with ease and 5 wouldn't be a big problem either and that is too forgiving in my opinion. I understand you play a skilled fighter but undisciplined gamers won't have fun if they do this all the time. Still for me isn't a big problem since I avoid big fights and if I get into one I load my old save immediately. If you are sneaky like I it won't be a huge problem.

    Graphics:
Looks great but with some flaws. When I was on a fast boat it started to lag (around 13 fps) and sometimes the blur can really annoy you. (while playing you won't notice)

I will expand the review when I played a bit more but at the moment I can say that if you are a passionate stealth gamer who is one with the shadows buy it immediately.

It's almost like you are being punished for wanting to have the "good" ending. I was originally planning 2 play once as each char and then low/high but after the slogfest of stealth I'm not wasting any more time on this game. Few games are good enough to play more than once and this game isn't it. Many other games have found the perfect balance between stealth and fast adventure. Unless the series can find that happy medium it is just going to end up being an FPS.

I'm sure the combat side of the game is fine as it is clear the devs set up most missions with combat in mind. So if you're going to play this game then probably go the combat route unless you enjoy repeating sections over and over again.

Sorry to break your heart, pun intended…
But this game feels more like a cheap DLC than a proper sequel
it even looks like dishonored 1... A 4 year old ps3 game
the game starts out with you conveniently training the now Empress Emily on being an assassin…
It introduces new ideas and mechanics to the dishonored series like sliding and jumping... but you use none of this throughout the campaign…
Emilys Aunt comes to take her place on the throne and its then you choose who you play as, Corvo from Dishonored 1 or the Emperess Emily,
I chose Emily as she introduces a new set of magic to the game…
And you have to save whoever you don’t choose and retake the crown…
Your choice does not change the campaign, but will of course change the story.. So there is incentive to play twice...
Which unfortunately if you want to feel you got your moneys worth youll have to do as my run through with Emily took only about 5 hours and 40 minutes…
Nothing has really changes since dishonored 1, except level design got noticeably worse…
There are 2 levels that are pretty cool puzzles that will definitely test your patience, but these 2 levels are the only 2 of the 9 that live up to this series standards..
The rest all feel uninspired, and therefore I felt no urge to explore them…
And creating such boring worlds to explore is bad for the player and hurts the gameplay because of how inaccessible magic and upgrades are in this game…
If you aren’t willing to try and figure out how to get to a rune behind some annoying locked door.. you’re not going to have fun at all playing this game as upgrades and magic are so expensive and are mistakenly not unlocked with story progress…
I felt the same about the original.. But it’s even worse here due to how inaccessible everything is...
Magic should be given to you as you progress through the story and the level design should be crafted around this magic…
There is an option to do a no magic run here as Emily, but even still… theres potential to turn this into 3 different campaigns centered around each characters magic or lack there of…
Instead theyd rather annoy you by hiding the runes in frustrating spots like they don’t want you to have fun with their game..
    Well congrats Bethesda, you win...
    I didn’t have fun at all…
Upgrades are also only available at shops… and for ridiculous prices that you won’t be able to afford unless again, you spend the time to explore these poorly designed levels with horrible progression indication…
I understand the whole point of dishonored is to place you in a world and let you go..
But there should still be some sort of direction designed into the world…
For example one of the later missions I was stuck in a room forever trying to leave, only to google and find out everyone else had problems with this spot to… there was a button next to the door you were supposed to hit.. The game never tells you to look for a button to proceed, it just gives you a locked door... and it’s a Bethesda game so naturally one would assume, this is a bug... no... Just bad design.
The hand to hand combat here is just as bad as it was in the original, now however there are ways to just knock enemies out instead of killing them in combat which makes a non-lethal run much easier to obtain, but the stealthy approach is still the more satisfying option…
Dishonored 2 is everything we already got…
Sneak around, take people out, get detected and sword fight or gun fight…
Disable electric walls A dash of magic all in a less inspired world… with like 1 and a half hours of awesomeness from 2 levels.
Set your standards low… It’s nowhere near as good as the original.
    I Give Dishonored 2
    a 5.5/10

Now i'm not going to lie, I didn't really enjoy the first dishonored game which and where is wasn't average per say, it wasn't great either, trailing of the idea that it looked like some form of thief spiritual successor with more steampunk elements. Never the less i was bored and looking for a challenge and what i found was dishonored 2 and considering that it was getting praise filled reviews, i figured that the game must have done something bloody marvelous to get them and thus i put my hard earned dollars towards getting the game.

Now lets get onto the main part of this all, before we enter onto the story, the gameplay, because if anything sticked out like a sore thumb not even 30 seconds into actually playing the game was the frequently dipping frame rate in which i found that Emily just moving her hands and showing of a flashy new ring caused the game to drop half of its frame rate and if you think that is awful i haven't even scratched the surface yet. Not to long after i found myself in the actual game-play with the aim to take out the main target only problem is that he is conjoined twin, who is apparently inseparable from his brother the door, now brushing this off as pure nonsense for the time being and as a chance encounter i was surprised to see how frequent this occurred latter on in my play-though in similar and different situations with npc's deviating from the script and not in a good way. But enough about the bugs, how is actual game-play? Well other then the fact that Corvo has essentially remained the same since the previous game for the purpose of consistency, it is Emily who instead gets the player treatment this time around with her abilities such as shadow walker making her more powerful then her father, who mind you is a master assassin with a rather bloody resume. Forgetting that, abilities are otherwise interesting when they work offering a dynamic over other stealth games that tap into the supernatural, offering a welcome look at first person chaos and carnage with Magic.

Now onto the story. When opening up this game i found that it was overall quite demanding in terms of what they wanted the player to know prior to the game and despite having played the first dishonored and it's DLC's i can safely say i had no idea the entire time what the hell was going on, other then fact that their was a coup and that in the chain of succession for some reason half-blood takes priority over full-blood no question. I suppose what surprised me overall however is how fundamentally short the game is even on very hard difficulty suffering the same issue as mankind divided in which the game can be done in a very short amount of time. During my initial play-though of dishonored 2, where i had though i had only made it a quarter through the game, i had actually made it past the halfway point, begging the question as to whether the final missions were longer or the rest of the game is DLC that might have actually delivered more depth to the story.

In conclusion dishonored 2 isn't that great and feels more like a glorified dishonored 1.5

optimized it's dishonored one game play wise except now you can knock someone out once you get in a sword fight and Emily gets some different powers then Corvo he has pretty much the same powers has dishonored 1 so if you want a new experience then dishonored one you are not going to get it here unless you play as Emily but the combat still same they really didn't build off the first one at all the gadgets you can buy from the merchant are all the same as the first dishonored by the way there is a merchant on every mission you just have to find his shop which is kind of hard sometimes when your head starts to hurt

there are some side missions in the game that add some content to the game you'll just help some random person you can save a life or you can do them a favor or let them die but not helping at all has no effect on the ending if situation comes up where you can save someone which it will the first i think is on mission 2 so don't feel any obligation but you can get some good rewards if you help someone like the merchant in one the missions he will give you a discount i think but if you play on xbox you'll probably be trying to rush through game as fast as you can i was about 3 hours away from being done and i wanted to quit cause of the head ache it gave me i haven't had a game give me a head ache since time shift and it was to late for a refund cause i bought it digitally and Microsoft will not give a refund past 6 hours

the story is boring and can't really keep your interest you will find your self pushing through like when your doing yard work well there is differences in some of things the cut scenes will say if you play as Corvo instead of Emily but no major difference you might not even really notice you still have low chaos and high chaos which just means trying not to kill people for low and killing like crazy for high which low will obviously have the best ending well this game was hyped so much and it failed like they always do it's probably like a 7 on pc cause they patched the graphics issues and the ps4 had crashing issues but still looks better from what I've heard slash seen but its still like a 6 or a 5

i feel like they really don't care about this game at all and i can't understand how this made it to the new gen like this i really think the 360 could run it i hate this game so much and will never buy another

Awful childlike story. Horrible AI. Bad graphics. Horrible performance even in consoles and animations. Dishonored the dishonored 1. What an irony....

Just for your information, my xbox live marketplace review has been taken down, for being honest i presume. The game just feels horrendous to play, the narrow fov, the frames dropping, and how horrible it runs in general, the original which i've played 7 times, feels a lot smoother than this one. The ACTUAL graphics are great, the story was interesting, the character models looked really refined compared to the background exteriors. And apart from Corvo's occasionally goofy voice/writing, the rest of the voice acting sounds really good. Put it this way, i'd rather have my foreskin stapled to a desk, then have someone shout FIRE!! than play this game again, in it's current state. Expand

It's a stealth game. There's no mention in the games description that it's a stealth game. I hate stealth games.

The addition on an entirely new playable character with unique abilities adds a whole depth of replayability. The powers are interesting and diverse, and better balanced and allow for more engaging non-lethal gameplay with Mesmerize and Domino. The additional enemy types test your full repertoire and have unique combat patterns and ways to approach handling them.

There are really few things to do other than stealth (a few puzzles). Particularly in the early missions, the best you can expect when discovered by a group of enemies is to manage to run away. It's surprising how many people didn't even finish the 1st mission because of this (50% completion). You should be ready for repeating the sneak, hide the body, quick save loop 200 times.
Now if you are into stealth games, most probably you'll play Dishonored 2 regardless of what I write here. But if you are wondering which one to play first (Deus Ex, Prey, Dishonored, Thief, Metal Gear…) this review might help you. First and foremost, Dishonored 2 is more like Dishonored 1.5. Graphics are improved but remain behind the best of what this generation can produce - which is a bit strange if you realise that the whole game consists of around 80 buildings, and it should be easier to optimise visually. Most of the new powers are not so game impacting as the old ones - you'll still solve most problems by teleporting. The world is still well built, with even more incidental detail and random NPC chats, but with all NPCs being cartoonish archetypes and most NPCs being there just as obstructions for a single mission, you will care or even remember them even less than the named monsters from Prey. The "mission" rigidity is really limiting the freedom and connection with the world (nothing like the exploration in Prey or the amazing Prague hub in the last Deus Ex). Story remains a pretty silly "eliminate one enemy to learn about the next one to eliminate" that's become the running joke of Assassin Creed games. But all this wouldn't be bad if the game managed to maintain its focus on its smart powers. Unfortunately an increased emphasis on collectables and RPG-esque elements makes it feel more like busywork, as you'll sneak into every single room to get usually useless bonecharms. By the end of the game you've spent so much time doing the same thing that there's a big chance you won't have the courage to do a second alternate walkthrough (the game tries to encourage you to play as both characters, and see both the Low and High chaos alternatives).
The game is redeemed exactly at the moments it takes away your powers or challenges your understanding of space. If you know where your next target is, and you can teleport anywhere you can see, after all, space is a solved puzzle. But when you cannot teleport anymore, when you can travel in TIME instead of just space, or when the rooms around you can be rearranged, Dishonored 2 feels fresh again. The clockwork mansion and Stilton's House remain some of the best missions in the history of the genre and make it worthwhile to visit this game. I also enjoyed a lot the first mission as a short diversion into old school Thief gameplay, but your mileage might vary.

Following on the coat tails of the first Dishonored, the second one manages to be better in some fashions and even more so in challenges (a true one is mentally tiring to figure out and worth sinking your teeth into) unless you cheat and use YouTube. The narrative so far reminds me of Alice in Wonderland: A Wrinkle In Time where two sisters have been at odds since their mean little girl games long ago which made the younger sister big-headed and turned her into the queen of hearts. Of course this game like the previous follows every known steampunk work back to Jules Verne yet adds the punk spirit to the story so it isn't just another simple family adventure or Disneyfied story. So far there hasn't been any sexuality (like the golden cat in the first game) but there is plenty of violence, crude characters, uses of drug or alcohol and clear attempts at villains spewing propaganda (which is considered something only adults can handle since understanding the difference between bubble perspective and reality isn't something adolescence is equipped for). In some ways the story struck me between Jessamine and Delilah as a Lily vs. Petunia in the Harry Potter novels style rivalry only Petunia didn't orchestrate the darkness in Harry's life as Delilah did for Dunwall. Still one cannot deny the amount of Steampunk in Dishonored 2 which makes it now only right that CDProjektRed now has to make a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, a sort of continuum of where the city left off and maybe a character who attempts to diffuse another big war. Anyway, different topic, different game. I had a lot more fun with the non-lethal playthrough though the clockwork mansion had one upped a simple geek like me as math isn't my forte. Again if I see not one brothel or courtesan or any other mentions of an orgy throughout the game I'll call it an accomplishment, the most M for mature this game gets is the violence and practically being as violent as any horror or Mortal Kombat game, then again not every R Rated movie or M Rated game has to have sex to merit the rating!!! It's all about context here and the context so far has largely been squeeky clean apart from the violence and otherwise. Expand

Overall, Dishonored 2 makes major improvements on what the first game did and makes what made that game great even better. This really is a fantastic game that should be played by both those who enjoyed Dishonored 1 and those who love great sandbox games.

Dishonored 2's world is big and very detailed with multiple paths and ways to go about it. There are many secrets to discover and puzzles to solve. If you are a fan of the original, then this is the perfect sequel. A great game with the right amount of new techniques and ideas to provide new gamers and fans of the original with a great experience.
