Over rated. I've spent nearly 15 days in total playing that and now I have nothing to do. I'm never touching Destiny 2 again because that game sucks even more.

A well put together and entertaining game that is unfortunately brought down by weak pvp, poor acting, and just the worst story EVER, both in terms of creativity and how it's delivered to the audience (you should never have to look at outside media to explain a story).

Destiny excels in many areas, from its gorgeous visuals and art direction to its satisfying gameplay there are so many things to love about the game. Sadly the game has been ruined by Activision's greed and ends up feeling repetitive and severely lacking in content.

Bungie came back in full force with a game that was fun, easily addicting, and so great for all the years they put into making it. It played so much like Halo, yet was so unique at the same time you could lose yourself for hours doing either the campaign, raids, or PVP and it was always fun no matter what.

Best gun play in a game since Halo, but the game lacked content for the first year. The raids were amazing but without friends this game was so empty and boring.

After several hours of grinding, I was slightly disappointed with what the game had offered. The game is not necessarily bad, but one that presents glaring flaws that took away from my overall enjoyment. Destiny is a good game, but it is nothing compared to the breathtaking adventure that was Halo. Firstly, the story quickly becomes underwhelming after its seemingly promising concept and premise, missions feels highly repetitive to the point where it becomes a bore, and content wise the game doesn't offer much for you to have the full experience (unless you want to pay extra for the DLC expansions). On a positive note though, the graphics and soundtrack are superb, gameplay mechanics work very well for a first-person shooter, and the landscapes and scenery are downright gorgeous. Unfortunately, you'll soon find out that the world is a facade, as it soon feels lifeless and mundane. In conclusion, Destiny is a good title that you are likely to enjoy if you wish to experience it, but don't expect to be blown away the same way you were with the Halo franchise. Expand

With Destiny 2 around the corner I thought I’d give the original Destiny a try to see what all of the fuss is about...
And apparently it’s the expansions because it’s not here in the base game...
And with activision shutting down multiplayer modes for those expansions the month this review comes out I’m not going to even bother them...
So while I’m sure Destiny is now this great experience with all its ad ons...
I’m going to just talk about the base game which is a repetitive and boring joke…
Destiny is a competitive and cooperative online only first person shooter where you play as 1 of 3 classes and create your own character
As an aggressive player I played as a titan..
There are 2 bases in this game that you turn in your quest progress 2, get new missions, fork out your real life cash for any weapons that are worth anything from loot boxes and get back to the grind of being a guardian…
    This game is co op...
But through my entire 9 hour journey in story mode I only had team mates in one mission…
The story mode is practically dead…
So you’re going to have to grind through this excuse of a story mode yourself…
Worse is that all 9 hours take place on the same 4 maps…
the missions just take your deeper into these maps each time..
There are some loot boxes here that are like playing a game of where waldo to find them...
so I just stuck to getting my loot from missions and enemy drops…
Leveling up in this game gives you upgrades for your grenades and suit
though the game doesn’t seem to balance in terms of xp if you are playing alone so late game missions are extremely frustrating..
I was playing through the final story mission at only level 14 because of how slow the game was handing levels out because it assumes I’m going to grind through boring story missions over and over or that I’m playing with other people…
I felt like I had to keep playing in these annoying no respawn zones over and over that would reset every time I died…
But these missions are all the same thing of bring up your ghost, go to a point on the map and shoot all of the stuff until there’s no more stuff to shoot rinse and repeat..
There is a competitive team based mode of 6vs6 like call of duty which is the best part of Destiny as a base game...
Here level advantages are taken away, but you’ll level up way faster than the story mode, you’ll get loot drops, and you’ll have way more fun doing it…
IF you were thinking about giving destiny a try before destiny 2 comes out there’s absolutely no reason to
there’s nothing here worth your time
    Give Destiny
    a 6/10

The graphics are also amazing, even on your not-great last gen consoles. The world is very interesting and sucks you in. There are a lot more things Destiny does wrong though. First off, the mission areas and objectives are repetitive as hell, and Its hard to feel excited when you're going back to the exact same area for another boring objective. Another thing that Destiny does wrong is that the story is vague and underwhelming, the bosses are bullet sponges. Yet another thing that really ruins Destiny is the RNG loot system. So pretty much, in a Strike or Raid, all of the good loot is not given out according to skill, but according to a random number generator. That severely damages your experience with Destiny. The PvP is fun, but only because it's the same as Halo's multiplayer. And saying: "there will be DLC to explain the story" is absolutely no excuse to shove an underwhelming and uninteresting story in our faces. Only buy Destiny If you are a hardcore Halo or Bungie fan, and even then, you can just get the Halo MCC, or wait for Halo 5 to come out. Expand

    Cons:
-Very short and poor written story (even worst considering it was made by bungie)
-Repitive mission structure- Go to point A, scan this, defend point, point B and repeat with the occasional boss
    - Loot system is poorly done, as you can get rare or even common weapons after decrypting an epic or even a legendary
    - Reused and recycled enemies that look the same
    - Reused and recycled gun designs (apart from the exotics but poor you if you try to go for those)
    - Grinding for days
    - Bosses are usually just bullet sponges that can take heaps of damage. Also if you die, the boss gets all it's health back while all the ammo you used (that includes heavy and special ammo) isn't refunded back to you.
    - 'Expansion' packs galore, adding in what should have been in destiny at release. But what would you expect from activision?
    - Hardly anyone playing multiplayer. I spent like 45 minutes trying to find a match and didn't find one. So multiplayer is dead, at least in the Xbox one.

I don't hate this game. It has its fun moments, and it is fun teaming up with other players in missions. It just isn't what it could've been, which is a shame.

I will admit that the raids and strikes are fun when playing with friends but that is it really. My main con with this game is the story. Missions are repetitive as it just scanning objects whilst killing enemies and the planets that you visit just feel empty and lifeless. One last thing, the fact that they cut out most of the game for DLC is absolutely ridiculous and the fact that you need DLC to progress with the game is just pathetic.
To sum it up, Destiny is a very average game that is occasionally fun but it is not enough to bring me back for a sequel.

If you haven't realized by now, THE WHOLE GAME IS A FINANCIAL SCAM. As this review was published, Xbox Live is offering a deal of $59.99 with the game and all the Expansions available, but a game get's the full judgment during launch, and with this game during launch you would have to pay over $100 to get the full experience. Enough said about the financial scam, let's talk about the game it'self. The game starts when your character gets revived after maybe a few hundred years ( they never explain ) you get revived by your new companion, a small robot that calls himself a ghost who will maybe give you a little help, and also someone who will get you killed almost every time. The game takes place during the aftermath of a war against aliens, you become a guardian and your objective is to save the remaining people from the aliens, along with all the other players who purchased the game. I apologize if I'm wrong is just that the game doesn't explain the story well. After a 4 hour adventure trying to find "The Black Garden" you finally start your adventure, only if you have the season pass. And if you do, get ready for an endless grinding adventure. You'll be better off with another shooter game. Expand

On one hand, you've got interesting open worlds where you can bump into other players here and there and tackle meaningful content with small 3-player groups. The missions and boss fights are highly replayable and customizing your character to a certain play style is outstanding within the FPS genre. On the other hand, Destiny isn't built well enough to weather the gaming world. It is a flash of excitement, praise and continued consumption one moment, an abandoned war fortress the next. The worlds of Destiny are limited in their scope and the content barely exceeds skin depth. You cannot throw yourself into this game and feel both challenged and interested a month or two later, because once you've reached a level cap and played a handful of "strikes" and done your "raid", it all quickly comes to a halt. Like World of Warcraft, the game is meant to be repetitive, but what sets most MMORPGs above the cut is how meaningful the game is once you get to where you're ultimately going. The challenge to take on the game's most difficult moments and come out victorious with your friends, the champions of PvP (competitive multiplayer) showing their skills and being rewarded for it. It's these things that hurt Destiny in the long run. I absolutely love this game for its butter-smooth gunplay and feel. Nothing feels wasted or worthless (even if I don't prefer fusion rifles, they serve a purpose and have their strong-suits). Bungie is perhaps king of balance, and their creative sparks show up in spots, but you cannot deny that this is very much a Halo 2.0, or what Halo could be like if you opened up the sandbox and went to town. That would be fine if the story wasn't so muddied and incoherent most of the time. This is the first year of Destiny and, despite all of its shortcomings, is still worth the price of entry. That's the true incredible feat here, but if you're jumping in to the game late, be prepared to miss out on the end game content that was worth playing in the first year, because after two short DLC packs, year 2 is upon us with a grander Taken King expansion that is taking this game in the direction it should have always been going. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When I first played the Destiny beta, I had high hopes for this game. It looked great, and the area that was available on earth was spread out into large open areas, while also having some close quarters areas.

That led me to decide to buy it soon after launch. What I found out after putting some time into the game was that I might have been better off giving Shrek a spare key to my home. While the earth area seemed cool in the beta, It turned out that Bungie had taken the earth map, and colored it different colors to make the other worlds, then took a hyateus to spend some time jerking off to cortana pictures in a claw foot bathtub filled with money from the Halo series.

I could go on for paragraphs about destiny, but ill sum it up in a list of "The Top 10 Things You Should Know About Destiny Before You Buy" (Yeah, yeah, I know, we have all seen too many top ten lists on the internet already, but i promise this one wont be filled with adds for Buzzfeed)

!. As I said earlier, the maps are basically re-skinned versions of each other. Here are some examples:
EARTH: Mainly open tundra with some easy enemies and airplane/ship parts scattered around.
MARS: Red version of earth. Also has morbidly obese enemies and wrecked buildings.
VENUS: Earth that let its pubes grow to long. Jungle-ish area that looks like it just held a convention for people who like Battlestar Galactica, and everyone dressed up as cylons.

    2. It takes way too much grinding to level up.
The way you level up is by obtaining some 420Swag armor that gives you the points needed to level up when wearing it. The problem is that the equipment you get is in no way related to how well you do in missions. For example, you could be doing a raid with friends and be racking up clips for your N0Scop3 montage and have a 9000/1 KD ratio. But when the prizes are handed out at the end of the mission, your buddy who sniffed a little too much glue in middle school get the game's equivalent to the Nobel peace prize, while you are stuck with a dead raccoon tainted with chlamydia ..

    3. Online PvP Multiplayer (the crucible) kinda sucks
To give credit where credit is due, bungie knows how to do multiplayer. The success of Halo in both public and competitive settings is a testiment to that. Thats why I was confused with bungie's deciision to appoint Hellen Keller as the new head of the multiplayer devision of destiny. The end product of that poor decision is a multiplayer mode that feels like a bad knockoff of the halo style of multiplayer. It looks pretty from a far, but it is definitely far from pretty. The whole experience of getting online to pwn some scrubs seems totally lack luster and devoid of any true soul or passion. It doesn't commit any cardinal sins of gaming but it also doesn't have anything to call it's own. If you want to play some quick andeasy multiplayer, pick up call of duty. It you want fast paced competative action, play CSGO. And If you want larger maps and some vehicles, play Battlefield.

    4. In the fine print it says you will get robbed of all your money.
When the game released, you could buy the "Expansion Pass" for $35 which includes expansion #I: The Dark Below, and #II: The House of Wolves. Each expansion sells for $20 seperately. By now we are all used to the DLC buisnes strategy. It involves releasing paid content that is supposed to further the experience over time. Most companies also release a season pass or expansion pass which will entitle to all of the upcoming dlc for the game at a slightly discounted price than buying each one seperately. There are two major issues with how destiny does dlc. The first is that it was found out that some of the content in the expansions was originally to be included in the game but was cut out in favor of charging more. The second thing is that the people who shelled out to get the game and the expansion pass are getting reamed a new one my bungie. Bungie anounced a while ago that they are adding another dlc which wont be included in the supposedly all inclusive expansion pass. This means that those who bought the pass at launch expecting to be set on dlc content for the rest of the game's life cycle also have to shell out an aditional 40 doll hairs if they want to get the "full destiny experience" (Dont worry, this will be the last hidden and over priced. DLC...... hopefully). Oh, and all the DLC;s in the past have added were a couple missions and a small hand full of top tier guns and armor which you are never going to have enough luck to recieve in the game anyways.

Now, despite all the stuff ive been saying about destiny, it is nowhere near the worst game I have played. It manages to retain some redeeming qualities through it's well done mechanics and great CoOp aspects. I found that I had the most fun celebrating the defeat of a difficult boss with friends

...which Immediately turned into cursing when we find out that we got jack **** for loot.

Great game in theory, mediocre game in execution. Really the biggest failing point of this game is content. For Destiny, Bungee has taken Halo's ingenious play every level forwards and backwards method for game length and applied it to a mixed FPS/MMO. This makes for an interesting 5 to 10 hours of game play that quickly turns boring and stagnated.

What are all of you thinking when playing destiny??? Bungie claims to have worked 5-6 years on this game. A game that is suppose to be an mmorpg. Now let's take a look at what those 5-6 years have brought us. When you venture into the realm that destiny Has to offer; Your immediately captivated by the marvelous display of the landscape and even more so as you gain progress in story. One Main issue dawns upon the players when they realize there's no chat box to commuicate. The only way to socialize it to add gaurdians to your fireteam(1-6 players at a time). You can see why this Is an issue since the main component in all mmorpgs is the ability to socialize with other players.

Furthermore, there is an extreme lack of story. All role playing games come with a major focus on Lore. Remember when you were young and all you lived to play for were those cutscenes? All you get from destinys story is a few cutscenes with still a major lack of story depth. Bungies response is....oh wait there is none. Bungie continues with the "expansion pack" called Dark Below. Witch does nothing to help the Storyline of this supposedly "Epic" game. Don't get me wrong the game is fun but it comes to end all to quick. You can only do the four same strikes a few times before it just seems repetitive. The loot system is another let down. Its all random based witch evidently makes destiny just more grinding based to get the best Weapons and armor. Bungie is obviously holding back to profit from destiny in the long term.

In Addition, where are all the planets and Galaxy's were going to be traveling to? Destiny as is does not allow us even to explore our suns entire solar system.less when it comes to the planets. We only get access to Earth, the moon, Venus, and Mars. With one medium sized area for each planet. this game has been more of a let down above all. Don't get me started on the tower..not having raid matchmaking is mind boggling. There's no excuse. Yeah its "hard and needs strategy". Thats why a guardian soloed crotas end raid with no guns. Players can manage with a team of strangers. Time has proven so. How did Bungie go from Halos Magnificent story to Destinys major lack of one? There's hardly anything to do beside grinding. Why not add a Sparrow Race Playlist? And a Ship Race Playlist? Why not add to the story to create more things to do in destiny like side quests in addition to the bounties all ready available.

where's the Character Build Up? Every class is practically the same with minor tweaks. levels don't seem to hav much of a purpose besides being able to equip better armor; however, theres hardly anything about the armor that makes your character unique. Take final fantasy for example the range of weapons and armor are so vast no one character looks the same. When you actually play Destiny you keep thinking its going to get better but eventually you find out it never does. You reach level twenty without even knowing who the travelers are or what it is we are fighting against besides there name. even more so when the story mode is completed. This game needs to take tips from fallout and mass effect. Now Bungie is talking about the next "Expansion pack" House Of Wolves. Seriously?? Expansion pack? Compare them to Final Fantasy Expansion packs and they don't even come close. Bungie needs to rename these expansion picks "Add-ons". Bungie releasing the game in portions through DLC is not going to make this game last as long as halo.

You feel like there could be something amazing in this but it never comes and then you finish all the content. Maybe after a full year of DLC the game will actually feel like a full games worth of story.

    MMO Aspect- 3/10
You go to a city or a planet and you see others around you but there is not a good way to be able to communicate with them. Really besides the seeing them they don't feel like they do anything. Doing strikes in match making you get 1 out of 20 that have anyone talking.

    Re playability PvE - 7/10
While playing the story line you will most likely do everything you can do without forming a group. If you want to do raids you need a preformed group and that's a problem because communicating with others is difficult. There is potential for things to get better with future expansions and more content.

    PvP - 10/10
PvP is fun and the game mechanics give it a variety without feeling to be to much. There is a wide variety of weapons and looks and even player builds allowing things to be complex without being overdone. The PvP in this game alone is worth the cost.

Initially this game is ok but you can just feel how much potential it has. I really see this game going places if they keep expanding upon it.

Overall- 7/10 pushed over by the feel of potential.

Very playable and can be very exciting at times, but it's too often that it's broken up by long boring missions that you've done many times over. Most events in the campaign will involve guarding something from a 'horde mode' style attack. The biggest let downs are: 1) for a game to brag about customization only to require you to use the greatest/strongest armor doesn't count as customization. Yes, you can pick what COLOR you are, but as far as what armor you are wearing you must wear the best if you with to progress. 2) The story is unfinished... Yes, if you bought this for the campaign alone then prepare for an unfinished story UNLESS you fork out $15 for every bit of DLC thats planned for the next several years 3) No exploitation in the time there actually is story. Who are these guys? Why am I killing them? What do they want? You don't know, and you'll be left not knowing. This game is just a shell of what could be an amazing game but instead just ended up being a hype machine that wants you to pay and pay and pay for more content. The only time this game really shines is in the Crucible, which is the competitive player vs player matches. Expand

The good -- The graphics and the interface are gorgeous. And the combat mechanics are top-notch; it's clear that Bungie brings a world of experience to the table, gleaned from their work on the Halo franchise. Leveling up your character and getting better gear are a lot of fun. Multiplayer is a great experience. Your character is already equipped with a vehicle; you don't have to earn it. Plus, the AI of the aliens are among the best that I've seen in a game.

The bad -- There is minimal storyline. Missions are small (kill x number of these, or pick up x number of those) and feel repetitive and purposeless. Maps are large, but the missions have you running back and forth over the same map, rather than progressing from one end of the map to the other.

The ugly -- Peter Dinklage's frequently-heard voice work is lackluster, and among the worst I've heard in a video game. And overall, the game feels a bit light, as if they were holding back a lot of content for the two expansions that have been announced.

Conclusion -- Like I said, the combat mechanics are excellent. This is a great game for people who are more casual than hardcore. I plan on buying this game at some point, but not at full retail. I'm going to give it six months and pick it up for half price.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Where to start with Destiny.

My only good point to start, The gameplay of Destiny could not be better, it just flows well.

The story or rather lack thereof. The trailers tell a completely different story than what you actually play, characters are not memorable, the are just there. You do not feel immersed in the game. Not a single thing is explained, You are brought back to life by the ghost not sure why or how but your character just goes with it and begins shooting at an alien race because the floating light said so. Why is your character so important they were brought back from the dead, who are they. How could Humanity loose if people can be brought back to life? What is the traveler exactly, Humanity would have done research into it's origins but it is just white orb in sky over city. The final "boss" missions is not remotely climatic. A black blob floating brings some statues backs to life that are just giant versions of Vex from past present and future you see them in the VOG. Gotta love reskins of enemies. Destiny raises more questions than it answers the ones people already have.Bungie lied about Destiny being "huge" I have played the strike missions so many times because there is about 5. Which are the main missions players after level 20 will play via the strike playlist. I have not played Destiny for about 2 months the next "DLC" oh boy cannot wait for 1 strike mission (2 for PS4) and 3 story missions and one more raid.

You can get Destiny but make sure your friends have it so you can actually have a good fireteam and enjoy it a little more. Biggest let down of 2014.

Before I attempted the raid or got enough strange coins to buy anything from Xur. Destiny was a marvel of a game that when I first experienced it a sense of wonder; the lack of information about the story as I played just made me more hungry I thought eventually everything will be explained. Eventually I'll be lvl 26 and can do the raid, eventually I'll be able to experience Destiny, but I then realized watching the end cut scene my hopes of a story that would wrap the whole experience up never happened. I got to lvl 26 I did the raid, which in my opinion was the best part of the entire game, I did the heroic got coins bought exotics, did the nightfall. Week after week I repeated the same process, with no added content even the events were just re-skins of existing armor and had no purpose besides saying you did it. (Thats before Bungie decided to give the Iron Banner armor +30 light even though that didn't help me because trying to play the crucible even after numerous updates was pretty painful experience, in my opinion the reason they added + 30 light armor for iron banner is to nudge people that are still on the fence about the DLC to get it if they hadn't gotten Lvl 30 as of yet through the Venus Raid) Playing the same strikes, doing the same bounties day after day became tiresome. I managed to get a Lvl 29 Titan, Lvl 28 Hunter and a Lvl 26 Warlock I never managed to do hard mode raid nor reach lvl 30. To other people they can put 400 hours into Destiny and never get bored for me I can't do it, I got my money's worth and I am content to stop playing Destiny, and have no interest in DLC. Awesome idea for a story, but then after i started getting into the game i had no background of why am i going here? What are we getting out of this? How does this advance the story? Why does this make me involved? All of these questions when unanswered for the most part.

After so long, i said, "One more mission where i find what the ghost is looking for and then just hold off the enemies and i'm done!" Well, the next 3 missions were exactly the same.... find some tech ghost was looking for, deploy it and then defend... seriously?? Just sad because this game had so much potential.

Overall (5/10): Beautiful scenery, mostly fluid mechanics ruined by depth of gameplay and story.

You'll feel this even more when you play alone. This game is meant to be played with friends, and it's definitely more enjoyable when you have someone else in your fire team to chat with.

Is the story lacking? Absolutely, again. In fact, the game goes out of it's way to rub this in your face with lines like "I don't have time to explain why I don't have time to explain". It's like the story was built to make you buy the DLC, like the whole main game you paid $60 for is a teaser for DLCs that are to come later. What will really make you mad, is when you find out that the DLC is already on the game disc or original game download, and the DLC you purchase is nothing more than a digital key to unlock it.

Another criticism you'll hear, is about the game's loot system. It was obnoxiously atrocious and Bungie's response before fixing was even more obnoxious, by blaming the players for not getting or appreciating what they were trying to do with it. They've fixed this, but let me tell tell you how it was. You get as rewards, or random drops, what they call engrams. You take these engrams to this guy called "The Cryptarch" who decrypts them to reveal an item. These engrams dropped as certain colors: white, green, blue, and purple. White was for common gear, and you don't need the cryptarch to decode them; however, he sells them and they can either become common (white) item or uncommon (green) item when you purchase them from him. Green engrams are uncommon, but they have a chance to become blue (rare) items or white (common) items; these too, at some point will become straight item drops that are automatically a green item that doesn't need a cryptarch to decrypt, usually around level 14 you'll start seeing that not all green engrams need the cryptarch. Now you have blue engrams, which were updated with later patches. These had the opportunity to drop green (uncommon), blue (rare), purple (legendary) quality items or crafting materials or some sort of special currency to use at special vendors. After a patch, they removed the opportunity to become green items and increased the likelihood of obtaining a legendary (although the odds are still extremely slim). Those dropped relatively rarely. Now the legendary engrams, which hardly ever drop and this is what got everyone so mad early on, would have the chance to becoming a green (uncommon), blue (rare), purple (legendary), yellow (exotic), crafting materials, or special currency. What had everyone complaining was that these items would become blue items or worse 80% of the time. After the patch, they removed the chances of them producing green or blue items. The loot system was terrible at launch, and it seemed the only way to get legendary or better equipment was to grind for special currency and buy them from the various vendors. Activities rarely provided any loot back then. That's all been fixed in patches though. The main problem with loot is nothing really looks all that different, and there isn't much variety to the weapons. Legendary weapons don't feel that legendary either; and the exotics (the actual legendaries of this game) are only slightly better with a unique ability. You also can only have one exotic weapon and armor piece equipped at anytime; which is lame, because they aren't that much better than other types of gear.

Another criticism maybe with the leveling, or light system. I agree, it's lame. It makes being able to do raids, some strikes, weekly or daily challenges completely gear dependent. The ideal level in this game is level 28 (Hit the level cap of 20 and have an extra 8 levels of light to equal level 28). You need gear with light on it, and you need to upgrade said gear to get it that high. If you want to continue playing in the Crucible (PvP), it won't concern you that much; but if you want to do raids and get the best gear in the game, you need to grind crafting materials and legendary armor gear to get to the appropriate level.

What is amazing in this game, is the gameplay and the graphics. It plays extremely smooth. The foundation is there, but Bungie may have done too much to alienate much of the fans. Once Call of Duty came out, most players have left. This game still has huge potential, but they need to fix their missteps in order for this game to reach both the hype and our expectations

The positives are the Big Boss sections. Fighting them is excellent when you first battle them out. You'll love seeing the Sci Fi landscape for the first time too. I also love the way the weapons sound, and the hovering ability feels good too.

As for the negatives. I found I took too long to earn the monetary amounts needed to buy the larger weapons to compete online in PvP. I was only averaging 2 Crucible coins per match. So out of a total of 150 coins needed, I was taking far too long to reach the strongest weapons. I found I was bored with the Crucible coins and the time it took to earn them.

For whatever reason, it feels like there's a "grind" element to most of this game. The interest for me dropped off after a couple of weeks. I can't imagine I'll be sticking around for the expansions to finally be released. When they finally do, the online community may well have moved onto other games.

If you only have a limited budget then this game may be better off bought second hand on the cheap and then re-sold or traded again. Otherwise, this game was best experienced when it first came out.

    Singleplayer :

The singleplayer is the weakest part of this game. All the missions circle around an idea which is ''Go there then protect your Ghost''. It's always the same thing! You protect your Ghost against endless waves of NPC's... how boring is that when you just killed 20 or 30 of the same mobs. The story is the most uninteresting ever. They will never explain nothing to you.

They will never explain nothing to you. There are some cinematics but they are worthless since they teach nothing of this world. The only good point I will say about the single player is the environment looks great as well as the enemies, they look awesome too. By the way, to being honest, I have never finished the campaign since it was repetitive. I stopped at the 4th world and then decided to go see a walkthrough. It is the same until the end so it saved me alot of wasting time.

    Multiplayer :

The reason why this game received 7/10 on my end. This is the half of the game that saves the day. This thing is good. Even if you feel underpower or you feel there's unbalance everywhere, this game has the ability to make you stay in the matchmaking loop for another round. I always want another game. Sometimes I suck, sometimes I win and it's fun! The only downside are the fact that everyone jumps so high, it's hard to keep up with a regular line of sigh. The classes makes the game hard to believe this is balance. Finally, there's no clear armor sets for PvP which is really hard for me to understand since I always look for a kind of sets or ability for PvP but I see none. You have to get some weapons from PvE to have a set that kick ass.

I'm a grown man with family and a job. Why does that matter? Because if nothing else I have a limited amount of time available to play video games and as such have no desire to waste it all for literally almost no tangible progress. It feels like for nearly 100+ hours spent, as I have since level 25 or so, to have barely have reached level 28, still have participated in NO raids, there is really no good reason for me to keep playing. This game should be Exhibit A of Bungie completely forgetting what they knew and were good at and passing off this over-hyped to an otherwise unsuspecting but still loyal fanbase.

Bungie, you fooled me this time and in the process burned up all the goodwill I had saved up for you. I won't be spending $35 or more for any of the DLC and at this point nearly two months after you launched the game I will not be purchasing any further installments of this title. Or any of your future titles. I am going to do the only thing I can do and vote with my wallet.

    Goodbye and good luck.

Their are guns that are simple over powered and they are starting weapons which leaves players with the response "if you can't beat them join them".
The diversity in the weapons is great but again, it leaves the lower levels at a big disadvantage not being able to wield the high level weapons. If that is not enough for you, the perks; higher level players have, can leave low levels at the player mercy. Their is no skill base ranking system that you would expect from a Bungie game, which after 343's attempt at Halo 4, you would almost certainly expect their to be one.

The strikes are a lot of fun, especially when you up the difficulty. It forces you to create new strategies instead of blowing through it all. Do they get repetitive? Most definitely. That's not to say they're still not fun.

Do I love Destiny? No, but I really like it. Will it hold up against new games that are coming out? Probably not but that's not to say it isn't a fun game. I'd definitely peg this as a "rent before you buy." Feel it out, see if it's for you. It still is for millions of others.

Maybe they just ran out of time and money, or perhaps there were creative differences within Bungie. Though the base shooting mechanics are solid enough, there just isn't enough content here. The story campaign is a mess;a string of 'kill everything until time runs out' missions with no tangible or coherent narrative. There are perhaps 3 'NPC characters' in the game, who have barely any dialogue and whose motivations, origins and actions are largely unexplained. Indeed, you don't even know their names.

The climactic final battle is laughable and again, it's not clear exactly how you win - you basically shoot a bunch of fairly ordinary, slow-moving enemies with small munitions, and then get a 'Congratulations, you saved the world and defeated the darkness', cutscene. Even by FPS standards that's incredibly thin. If you're looking for a epic space opera like the Mass Effect series (flawed as they are) you're going to be sorely disappointed. Even 'grinding lootfests' like the Borderlands or Diablo series have vastly more meat to their narratives,

If you're looking for an MMO in space, you'll also be disappointed, as you're visiting the same four areas over and over grinding the same maps. Imagine if an MMO, World of Warcraft opened today with only four areas, a single home city, and perhaps 20 different enemies. Now imagine that each area is actually fairly small, with perhaps one 'dungeon' and the 'home city' is 3 buildings occupied only by stationary vendors and faction representatives. There is no feeling of travel, life, size or scope that you would hope for.

The three classes not only look pretty much the same, they play pretty much the same aside from some differences in their 'class super attack'. Everyone is using roughly the same weapons and approaches combat in the same way. In strikes, you're not going to care or remember what class anyone else played. You have three 'races' but the difference is only cosmetic. Your characters strangely, can't be named.

After you finish the laughably thin campaign and hit level 20, which will take you maybe a dozen hours, all there is to do is grind the same 4 bosses over and over, and participate in PVP matches. Problems with team PVP include people dropping out of matches when they start to lose (no penalty for this) and in PVE strikes, players going AFK for the entire duration forcing the remaining players to carry out the mission on their own (and they will still get the same rewards). Some AFKers will just queue into a playlist and automatically join into missions over and over, and AFK themselves to riches.

The game gets a 6 from me because killing monsters and looting is fun. I have a thick skin, and like games like Diablo 3 (in it's current state, not the misguided mess it was on release) and Borderlands. But it's so half-baked in so many ways I can't give it more. It's been a little less than three weeks and the repetition is already starting to get to me. That's saying a lot coming from a guy who has subscribed to maybe a dozen different MMO's and is a big Diablo/Borderlands fan.

    - No custom matches for multiplayer, Only match-making and NO SPLIT-SCREEN local play! Considering Bungie were the kings of coach co-op you would have thought that split-screen would be in Destiny considering the game is heavily focused on co-op play.

The only positive things I can say about Destiny is the gun-play feels great and the soundtrack is AMAZING! Marty O'donnell did fantastic job as usual but overall the game is one of the most disappointing and over-hyped game of 2014!

Dubbed as the "next big thing" when it was first announced - Destiny was supposed to be the new IP to end all other IPs. It ended up falling flat because...there's just not much here. It's ambitious in scope, but lacking in execution (possibly because Activision gutted it for later DLC), but once you've hit 30ish hours or so in the game you'll enter this new phase where everything is repetitive. Sadly Destiny suffers for a identity crisis. I feel like it tries to be too many things at once. The game isn't exactly what Bungie promised, and at the same time it feels like its missing a lot.

People have either loved or hated this game, and for me its a bit of a love/hate relationship. They do so many things right, but other things drive me crazy.

First off Ive played Boarderlands 2, Diablo and World of Warcraft, so playing a grid game isnt the problem, at least for me. For me is the randomness of the loot. You'll get into a weekly nightfall raid with two of your buddies, you will get the highest amount of kills, the most revives and the fewest deaths, but will that matter? Nope. The person with the lowest kills and most deaths will get 2 exotics and you will be left with a worthless uncommon or rare. The same goes for PVP. Someone will just join or be afk the whole game and they will be rewarded while you who got the most points or captures will be "punished" by getting nothing out of the game besides the 2-3 marks.

Level up past 20 is a headache. It is all luck based. Once again this is a grind game, and playing Diablo 3 I know all about luck. You'll get some item and you hope its what you want but its completely itemized incorrectly for what you want. In Destiny you level up by XP until you reach level 20. At 20 you do not get any more XP and now you level up by getting a stat called Light which can now be found on gear (weapons do not give light level). This basically means if you get unlucky you may never get the gear you need to level up. You can do bounties and PVP to get marks to get the gear you want, but this obviously takes time when people can luck out and get legendary and exotic gear and get level 28 in a single week (you need raid gear past 28 to progress to level 30). This can leave you stuck at lower levels when your friends are out doing the weekly nightfall or raids. This has since been fixed but I will mention it anyways, even if you were to get a legendary engram, it may decode to a RARE or UNCOMMON. These are hard enough to find as it is but this makes it impossible to get it to decode to something you can actually use. My Hunter's first legendary engram turned into gloves for a Titan. This has since been fixed but it was still originally in the game.

Another thing they did wrong is no match making for PVE. If you want to do the weekly heroic strike or weekly nightfall, you sure better know 2 friends who are about the same level as you (28ish), have it for the correct system and is on at the same time. If not you aren't doing the strike this week. How is there no match making in a game that REQUIRES a group? The raid falls in this same category. You need 6 people at the same time, but there's no match making. Why??

PVP i find fun and frustrating at the same time. First off the game type rotation is annoying, you are only allowed to play cretin game types during cretin times during the week, even though will sometimes get bounties for that game type during a day when its not available. There is no type of MMR (Match Making Rating) so you'll get paired up with all types of skill levels of players with a variety of different levels and different gear. You can be level 5 and get paired up with the Vex super weapon that basically 2 shots players. You may even be brand new to this game and thing to yourself it takes a whole clip to kill someone, but only 2 shots for him? I feel weapons are unbalanced for PVP, everyone starting with a shotgun that can one shot you or a fusion rifle or a rocket and sniper. In previous games like Halo these were a single spawn point and you had to contest with other players to get a hold of it. Here everyone has a gun that can one shot you.

Every game type is basically the same. You have Clash, Clash with the ability to capture points, and Clash with vehicles. There is absolutely no variety, and the only one that seems even relatively even close to what the pace should be is control, but even that seems to be frustrating depending on the map. Every map rewards camping and it seems like they all have choke points where you'll just run though a tight doorway or opening and either get sniped from someone across the map or a shotgun right in the back.

Also in PVP/PVE there is no communication. Why is there no communication? Because they disabled voice chat when not in groups. Why? This is what they call a "competitive shooter" so why is there no voice chat?

Overall I have enjoyed the game, hence the 8/10. I got a free copy with my Xbox One and then traded it in for a limited edition, which proves I liked it, but there is a lot of things wrong with the game as it stands now. They claim its going to be 10 year game, but they have a long ways to go if they thing it will outlive Halo and other FPS games as it stands

Destiny is desperate to be an MMO, with a single social hub and market along with several planets, each with one location you'll grind across multiple times through what passes for story. Very little is explained beyond 'darkness is coming and you must shoot the dudes who make up the darkness, we think' unless you feel like reading the glossary, but the game did such a bad job of engaging me I couldn't be bothered. Dinklage seemingly doesn't care either and the fact his character, a little robot called a 'ghost' that somehow resurrected your character thousands of years after he/she/it died but can't help you if you're in a shaded tunnel, gets worked up about potentially finding something brilliant on Earth before dropping the whole plot line and forcing you to go to the next planet without a reason, likely as I wasn't high enough level for the 'explosive conclusion', if that's what's left of Bungie under Activision's control thinks sending in waves of generic enemies is, makes me wonder if they have any idea how stories are supposed to progress

I always felt City of Heroes spoilt me for MMO story telling and general awesomeness, but Destiny is poor by both MMO's current standards and shooter standards as the MMO troupes it has to have wear what's good about Destiny down. The PvP combat could be fine, mind, but I had no urge to try it as the rest of the game just bored me. Do yourselves a favour and either play Wolfenstien: The New Order instead

    The big question
    Why mmo:
There is none seeing other people in your campaign only means you're missing out because they have more then likely killed everything and you can just walk on by. i have never seen more than 6 people in one area of the game excluding the tower. you get disconnected from the game because of random error messages like rabbit, monkey, cat. Its hard to contact bugie and get a reply. You have to collect stuff to upgrade and obviously you have to compete with other players. I can't think of one advantage being always online gives.

The tower is the most pointless annoying place. you will travel here after most missions to hand in a piece of crap and get more crap which wouldn't bother me so much but the loading screen to get there is about 1-2min. i can go for a piss and get a drink and will still have time to watch me fly the stupid spaceship in. so i can spend 30 seconds running to a place and holding x.

    Story: No spoilers here ;)
There isn't much but if you have played games before you will know how the game ends before the second mission. The campaign will take you to similar or the same location several times and if you don't do the bounties you will also have to repeat mission or play multiplayer.

    Gameplay:
The gameplay is the same as borderlands except not as varied. you have two forms of superpower which you can switch between but have to level up independently. You will find that certain certain set ups are better than any other and changing them would be silly. The balancing between classes is horrible. The titan has a slam attack which puts you in melee range and if you don't kill them they will quite quickly kill you, all the bosses have instant kill melee attacks so you can't use it on them. so you resort to slowly chipping away at his health from a spot where he can't hit you very well and thats that.

    Enemies:
There are two types of enemies ones with arms and legs and ones which float. They all act the same, feel the same just look different. The bosses are just big versions of the smaller ones There isn't a single unique boss which has different levels to him. They just repeat the same attack or movement again. again. agian.

    Multiplayer:
I really don't want to talk about the multiplayer because it is the most unbalanced multiplayer game. When you complete the raid you get the vex mythocast best weapon in the game can out trade anyone in multiplayer easily. The same applies to a few other weapons like the ice breaker, suros regime and the vanquisher 3 i believe . They have nerfed some to bring a little balance but even then the class system is just wrong. oh and your super powers recharge due points and time not kills. secondary weapons are op. getting ammo for the is easily or you can find one which recharge ammo.

    Warlock:
superpower has a self revive, instant kill melee, and infinite grenades and over shield.
    or
an instant kill range area of effect bomb thing.

    Hunter:
the golden gun from 007 with 3 shots or 4.
    or
a melee state which grants an overshield, damage resistance, instant kill melee, homing attacks, instant lock on. on kill health recharge or invisibility or dash.

    Titan:
A smash the floor which goes through walls similar area effect to the range warlock ability.
    or
a bubble shield from halo which can be destroyed by the warlock and hunter powers and everyone in it.
can be useful in certain situations.

obviously only high levels can get the best super powers and weapons but the game will match level 30's with level 6's.

    sound:
some of the worst game sound i have heard from AAA games in a while. Theres probably about 5 songs in the game. all the guns sound similar and they start to grind. you will inevitably turn the sound down.
The voice acting is okay but what they are saying s horrible just a random assortment of cliches.

    Conclusion:
The game is repetitive simple and buggy due to being connected to the internet 24/7. Long loading screens, unbalanced multiplayer which once you have the right set up becomes easy. The worst part is that i haven't even talked about the super floaty homing grenade which can chase you though walls. I wouldn't recommend this game to a friend.

Bungie is, hands down, one of my top 5 favorite developers in the industry. After all, Bungie makes everyone of their games with such care and consideration to every aspect. Halo is also my favorite video game franchise ever. Halo is also my favorite video game franchise ever. So of course, I immediately jumped on the hype train for Destiny the day it was announced, even though I'm personally not a fan of what it does to certain games. The big, big, BIG question is (quite possibly the biggest question of the year in gaming): Does Destiny live up to the quality of Halo and can it also be the best game Bungie will ever create? To be honest, I absolutely adored Destiny the first week and a half. However, the more you think about the game and get deeper into it, you start to realise how many glaring flaws there are that put nasty dents on the experience. Don't get me wrong, though, there's a lot of damn good stuff here. But it won't last for long. Let's start with the good. Destiny gets the fundamental gameplay or shooting done perfectly. With the ability to double jump or glide and slide, the combat gains a new aspect of versatility, different from your other shooters. The game also has 2 abilities for each class that were cool and creative. I felt the core shooting felt a lot like Halo, which was amazing. Plus, when in combat areas, the game gives you enough room or cover to feel safe, but not too much to make you feel like you're stuck in a metal cube. Another stunning facet of Destiny is its graphics. Remember the jaw-dropping feeling you had playing Halo 1 and stepping out of the landing ship in the second mission to see the Halo ring in the sky and everything around you? When playing Destiny and just looking at the world around you, that same feeling comes up. The graphics are just so amazing. Destiny also uses loot systems with gear and weapons. While the loot system has some fundamental flaws (more on that later), it was a good gear game, and I always pushed myself to get better gear and weapons (EARLY ON). I also enjoyed the PvP a lot here and there. That's all the good. Now...THE BAD. Destiny takes inspirations from games like Borderlands or Diablo for its loot system, and it's not nearly as good here. Drop rates are very rare up until level 12 or 13, and the loot rewards you get for every mission complete are irritatingly random. On the subject of class diversity, I only played as the Hunter, and I had moderate fun with his abilities. The story of this game....WOW. Wait, did I say "story"? There's barely any at all! In the "story" missions I never felt as if there was a genuinely good reason of why I had to do this-and-that because most of the time, there wasn't any reason at all. There's only like 5 (maybe even less) cutscenes in the game, and when they do come around, they felt awkward and worthless. Halo is story-driven, and I get that Destiny is NOT Halo, but its pathetic that we would get this much storyline from Bungie. In terms of the mission structure, I kinda felt repetitive. I did say that I liked the PvP, but it can be unbalanced. Maybe about 40% of the time, I died from Super Charge abilities. CHEAP. The guns, though, for the most part, are balanced. Bungie has made comments saying the game "changes" after level 20. I got to level 22 before I stopped playing. You know why? The game becomes a complete, boring drag after level 20. To level up after that level, you must get gear with "light" on it. To do this, you'll find yourself in a constant grind for the good gear. When grinding, you'll be repeating missions a lot. The game just proves itself to be boring after that point. The game sprinkles in MMO aspects, but sadly, they don't go deep enough. I don't want you guys to think I dislike Destiny 'cause I sure as hell don't. However, the flaws take away big parts of the experience. You'll play the game for about 20 hours, and then you're just done. Simple as that. Buy the game at $45 or less. Expand

Putting that aside, Strike missions have been a lot of fun, giving the player to join up with fellow gamers and take down the forces of the Fallen, Hive, Vex and Cabal. Bungie also constantly update newer missions such as Raid missions which makes Destiny gaming experience very valuable, plus team work becomes essential.

Also the Crucible is a fun multiplayer zone that gives the player an idea of how tough a Titan, Worlock or Hunter you really are.

Let's not forget that the soundtrack is incredible, the visuals are a delight and the smooth gameplay has made this game grow on me since release day.

    - Easy social interactions
    - Slightest MMO feel.

    Bad-
    - Only 3 to a fireteam (In game Party)
    - Horrible story-line

    - Loot drop is shocking, zero reward for a lot of effort.
    - Leveling is too slow past 20.

    Overview-
    - This game, what to say about this game. It's one that I think I like then there are moments I really dislike it, so I have come to terms with the main reason this game isn't at the top of the win list. The Loot Drop, with all the games of today this is by far the worst loot drop based game I have EVER played. You can battle and shoot it out for an hour and at the end get a useless set of gloves and a light orb that takes a million of to get something good (Sarcastic), so at the end you feel robbed and underpaid. . . . For example, while in the crucible, myself and my friend where at the top of the leader board, just running a muck and managed to not only get the most points/ kills but win it even though, the rest of our team where in a negative. At the end we got nothing at all, where the rest got a mix of gloves, boots, helmets and light. After that there was no motive to play, because why should I work the hardest and get paid the least? So all in all amazing looking shooter and a lot of fun while playing, but the loot system has just destroyed it in my opinion. 5/10

People say it is a MMO, but I cant agree. Yes there are people who interact with you, but usually no more than 10 in the tower.
A lot of this is due to my previous experience with RPG's so it could seem biased.

    Pros:
    + Loot system. Randomized rewards
+ Environment. It makes you feel immersed and isolated. Mentally, you're on your own.
+ Limited communication. Whereas others hate this, I like it. A game like this doesn't need little kids spamming the mic. It would ruin the isolating feel of the game.
+ Incredibly smart AI. With modifiers, some of the smartest I have seen in a video game.
+ Music. Very melodic and sets a good mixture of moods. I love fight the Archon Priest simply because of the soundtrack during it.
+ Content. What it has to offer brings me in to play just that one more Strike. Then just one more after that lol..
+ Raids. Who would have thought that a console Exclusive goes to the extremities of putting raids? This was also a good addition and very challenging.

    Cons:
    - Repetition. Missions themselves are very similar to eachother. The Strike Playlist can cue you up with the exact same one right after. A lot more of them need to be added.
    - Crucible. Very unbalanced. People seem to run around and 1 shot people too easily. (hunter class especially) that super power needs to be nerfed. (yes I am another complainer about hunter)
    - Unfinished. Bungie seem to like bringing out new content due to feedback. This can be good for more variety, but its disturbing to know that on release, it could of been planned to be a finished game until the mixed feedback came about.
    - Story. Very vague and at times doesn't explain too much of what is happening.

    Mutual:
+- Bosses. Usually bullet sponges and doesn't leave you thinking creative. Yet you will get those moments where they will wreck you, forcing you to start thinking a bit more which makes them more intense and exciting to fight.

Overall it is a decent game, but nothing very memorable. It is evident that they are trying to push a series here, but they will have to pull a wildcard for it to be ground breaking in the future.
If you're a fan of RPG's you will probably like it, but be taking what could be better in mind.
Just dont expect it to be like Halo just because its made by Bungie. The only thing similar to Halo, is that its a shooter. Nothing else.

I myself had high expectations since Bungie was behind the wheel developing the game, but was left highly disappointed after playing the game for just three weeks.

Destiny does get a-lot right. Destiny is a beautiful game with great visuals and awe-inspiring sky-boxes. Gameplay is fantastic. The music is good, but not nearly as good as Halo's music (Bungie, why on God's green Earth did you fire MARTY O'DONNEL? The mastermind behind Halo's incredible music?! Idiots...) Multiplayer is phenomenal and is what I spend most of my time playing. Bungie, as always, does a great job in this regard.

Unfortunately, Destiny's positives are outweighed by it's negatives. The game suffers from an insane amount of repetitiveness. You'll find yourself playing the exact same missions over and over and over and over again. For what? For nothing. The loot system was greatly flawed the last time I played (I know there was recently an update to fix it, but I haven't played it since then). These two issues alone are what make the game incredibly boring to play.

But it gets worst. The campaign mode is a complete and utter joke. There is barely a story, and what story is there is uninteresting and dull. I was expecting a Mass Effect/Halo like grand and intricate space opera that I could play over and over without getting bored. Will I be replaying Destiny's story? Not a chance.

Overall, it was a major disappointment and I hope Bungie gets their act together with future Destiny titles.

    The Bad:

Then you're saying that game has appeal. If you say, "i want more," and the game gives you more, then the game has holding power, which is different than replay value, which is one aspect of holding power. Anyway, Destiny tried to excel at one while neglecting the other. They created a game that is designed to have a broad appeal, but forgot that once you get people interested, you have to hold them there, or you won't continue to make money or be able to slow loss of profits to the used game industry.

This game does a lot right. Graphics that are stunning to many, though not all. The musical score is enough to create a moving experience in and of itself. The gameplay mechanics, which are the most important, are solid. We would hope so since it was Bungie that gave FPS a more accessible and, yes, broader appeal. These are things anyone coming to this game expected, even without marketing, but where this game falls short is in some areas that should have been no brainers.

Story - The story is unforgivably bare bones. I"m talking context that could have been filled in with simple dialogue during the gameplay. Such as your ghost giving a quick run down of the Hive when you first encounter them. You shouldn't have to go any where for that. What are the different enemies connection to each other? The Darkness? Many of my friends didn't realize the differences. The story is, essentially, unfleshed. They made no effort to make it a resonating part of the game. That being said, it's Bungie. No matter what their marketing scheme is, that they would skimp on the story and emphasize the multiplayer should have been expected. And that brings us to the multiplayer aspect.

Multiplayer - Limited. The crucible is tons of fun or completely broken depending on who you ask. Since the job of this game was to have a broad appeal, if people are split down the middle that sort of insinuates a fail. Though I'm sure plant of sophists out there will gladly argue how the day is actually night. Also, for a game that is supposed to have a broad appeal, a lot of the multiplayer elements sure are exclusionary. Several aspects, including the much anticipated Raids, require time and effort many folk don't have. Forces people to find and schedule time with friends when they may not have that time, then forcing them to finish a campaign in a certain amount of time or suffer a reset (unless I understood that wrong). I suppose they wanted to reward their most hard core players, but, mathematically, the less people that are able to participate, well, the more likely those people are to go pay money for other games that include them. It's just business.

RPG Aspect - Shallow and monotonous. The soft cap seems like a good idea, except the loot system makes everything a chore. Final bosses, which take up a good portion of time in the mission, do not drop rare loot more easily. That makes the final boss fight . . . a waste of your time. After several run throughs, the challenge is gone, so the only thing left is the loot. After having been stuck with the same pair of boots but having gone through several of everything else. I gave up. Borderlands PreSequel is coming out. Why bang my head on loot that won't come when I can play a game that both makes you work for and actually rewards you?

Bungie had some good ideas, they just didn't develop them fully. The formula goes like this:

Breadth = appeal (the variety of people who are interested)
Depth = Holding power (the amount of material in each aspect that keeps a player's attention)

    Their score is as follows:

Breadth - 7 - they went for the gold, made a good push, generated a lot of interest

Depth - 4 - They won't make it stick unless they start adding/changing some things and make the game more dynamic in loot and leveling up. Also it needs to be more accessible on their more desirable loot and missions.

It was a good try Bungie. I think you missed the mark a little. Only time will tell.

By the time you reach level 20 (or level 29, which is where I found myself as I went to trade in the title while it was still worth $30), you've already seen everything in the game, more than once, with the exception of a single 'raid', the Vault of Glass. You only get rewarded for running the raid once a week, leaving there nothing to do in a PvE sense that has not already been seen and experienced dozens of times.

The PvP is serviceable, but runs into some pronounced balancing issues, and is a shadow of it's obvious inspiration, the Halo franchise. It is obvious that the departure of key Bungie staff and the hard deadline set by Activision (to capitalize on the unique multi-generational marketshare this fall) gutted this game. There is a Reddit AMA from an alleged developer that confirms that the game that was released doesn't reflect the game they spent 8 years on and one can only assume that they'll include the additional (read: missing) content in paid DLC's, if at all.

I would recommend looking elsewhere to kick off your holiday gaming glut, as there are several titles coming out with a much more refined vision/pedigree. The gunplay IS very solid, and your every bullet feels as though it has weight and impact, but that ultimately wasn't enough to carry me farther than the first 2 1/2 weeks of playtime. Bungie has often touted the 10 year plan for the universe, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to find this the only title in the franchise.

On the whole, despite the solid shooting mechanics, I was rather disappointed at the lack of content/story, and can't help but feel a little mislead by the advertising. I can't in good conscious recommend this to anyone who is looking for a game with legs/follow through, or someone expecting the excellence of Bungie's previous efforts.

After watching 5 legendary engrams turn into blues or currency, I came to realize this game was more designed to frustrate than reward. Unless of course you happen to be on of the very few lucky people who get top tier loot for going 2-21 in the basically mandatory Crucible (mandatory if you want loot from any other faction than the default one, which you will need if you want to actually get useful equipment).
With other good examples of Shooter/RPG games out there, it saddens me to see that this is the best that Bungie could come up with. Its even worse when you think about how they boasted about spending $500 mil. on the game. With the thin content, I'm curious as to where that money went.

Como RPG es bastante pobre, la interacción con los NPC es de lo peor que he visto, hay juegos de hace 10 .... o 15 años que lo hacen mejor en este aspecto. - half assed story - these are the people who developed the Halo universe, which is pretty rich. But apparently they invested no more than a total of $10 into a decent story. Any teenager with a laptop can do better than this - they didn't even try. No answers or info is really given in the game, and 99% of the background info is not in-game but in the 'grimoire cards' on their website. WTF? Imagine if Mass Effect had had zero info on the Turians, Asari, Hanar, or any other species and just had a generic enemy called the 'Darkness'. That would be Destiny's story.
    - sucky endgame. After beating the story, what is there to do? The same 5 or 6 strikes over and over and over and over, and over and over again? Talk about boring. Then there are these big, bad 'raids'. Sounds cool right? Finally can play with a part of more than 3 people (seriously, Borderlands managed 4 person teams last gen for god's sake). But wait! No matchmaking! So if you do not have 6 friends with this game on at the same time, there's no playing the raids - which makes them entirely useless.
    - unbalanced multiplayer. Wow is the multiplayer disappointing. None of the maps really seem all that different from each other. Guardian abilities badly unbalance the gameplay and vehicles have no counter measures (unlike in Halo). As soon as Halo MCC hits in November, no way I'd ever consider going back to Destiny's multiplayer.

Overall, very disappointing. At least Bungie taught me a lesson - *never* buy the $100 special edition of the first game in a new franchise. I cannot believe I spent that much on a game that I got less than 10 hours of gameplay in. Ugh

PvP is fun, but it is unbalanced (instant kill abilities and overpowered weapons) and you can't do PvP until you reach lvl 5. There are lots of weapons and armor to collect, but you can't trade with anybody.

There are other frustrating things to mention also. 1) The story is almost none existent and characters you meet are COMPLETELY forgettable. 2) In order to level past lvl 20, you must find and equip gear that boosts your character's level. This results in having to grind endlessly in areas that spawn enemies over and over until you find the gear you need. It's not fun at all. It's just busy work. 3) Raid missions are inaccessible until you reach lvl 25 AND you have 5 other friends in your group to join with you. There is no matchmaking for Raids at all. That is complete **** Locking off modes like that is a huge turnoff for me.
    4) Players that do worse than you in PvP or Strike missions have a higher chance of getting better gear than you at the end results screen (game bug?).

Destiny will probably be a much better game 2-3 years from now with future updates and expansions, but in it's current form it's just a big empty shell.

First off, I should get out of the way that I did have fun with this game. The combat is great, and even though I'm not a big fan of the Halo-esque PVP, it was pretty fun at times. The game looks great, sounds good and feels good.

    So why the low(ish) score?

First off, there is next to no story. And this is jolting, because there is a LOT happening in the background. Unique races, some giant sphere called The Traveller, Earth is destroyed...none of this is explained beyond vague secondary conversations. There is zero lore. You can speak to no one except for the rare story cutscene.

You're awakened and it is said you were presumed dead...and that's all they say about that. I couldn't shake the feeling that they had big plans for a rich story and dropped it in order to make the release date (or budget). It's always the same:

    "Fight these enemies on Earth!"
    "Why? Who are they?"

"Fight these enemies on the Moon!"
    "...okay, well who are they?"

    "Fight these enemies on Venus!"
"Seriously...who am I killing and why?"

The entire game could have ended with a plot twist that Ghost was leading me to kill innocent aliens to end the universe and I would have thought "you know...that kind of makes sense."

Just as offensive is the terrible mission layout. You go somewhere, Tyrion Lannister the Robot needs time to hack a computer, and you fight 2-3 waves of enemies until he opens it (always coincidentally when you've killed the last enemy). Mission ends after you defeat a bullet sponge (no strategy at all. Run, get in some shots, run, get in some shots...)

Once you're done with the story, there's little to do outside of patrol or replay strike missions (over and over).

I did not dock points for the multiplayer, as I am 100% aware it is something most people will enjoy. To me, it's too little strategy and all jumping and shooting. Having to drain someone's shields to get a kill is exhausting and ultimately not very rewarding in my opinion.

While I was entertained by this game, I truly was disappointed in the end. With an MMO, you expect the story to be less than stellar, but this story was nearly removed from the game altogether. The multiplayer is nothing special, especially considering I can't use any of the abilities I got from playing the game.

Ultimately, as it stands, this is a short-term fun game that is saved by shooting mechanics and good company (though that's limited by a lack of match making).

So where does it land? (Avoid, Borrow, Own) I would have to say....

Borrow. You may end up liking it enough to buy, but at this stage if I had known what I do now, I would not have purchased this game.

It is an MMO by design, just wrapped up in the FPS package. It has many of the features people love (and hate) about an MMO. We have 8 of them, plus the dwarf planet just in our system... so the amount of areas are severely lacking. It's humorous that I find Peter Dinklage's voice acting to now be the most memorable aspect of the game. Destiny while enjoyable enough at first and promising after the Queen cinematic, the game does very little to tell a story or build a world you want to be a part of and ends quite abruptly. Cinematics could have filled in much needed meat to this games potatoes but I can remember maybe two or three. It is true that the game technically is only beginning but it does a poor job instructing the player on the bizarre level by chance grind ahead. The PVP is lack luster and unbalanced but the hardcore fps players should enjoy it enough.I feel that the game could have benefited from another year or more of development and when asked about Destiny I reply that it's like playing Halo ODST without any other Halo games existing. If you have friends to play with check it out, if your looking for an epic adventure while forging your legacy across the galaxy while socializing with other players look elsewhere. Expand

I'll start out with the positives. It is a first person shooter that resembles Halo in many ways. Even subtle things like how the Cabal move brings back memories of Brutes from Halo. The Hive are basically the Flood. And so on. The shooting is spot on. The guns feel powerful, the sound is amazing and the graphics are beautiful.

That's literally about it. Everything I thought this game would be just isn't. The campaign is insanely quick. I thought it was going to be a 30 or 40 hour adventure, akin to most RPG or adventure type games. But this is a shooter first and foremost and it has a shooter length campaign. You could beat this game's campaign in two sittings, easily.

I do not like the loot system. Once you level up to 20, the only way to increase your level is by obtaining rare loot with light on it. This takes a lot of grinding. After level 20, the game devolves into a huge grind fest. Most quests feel the same. Go here, hold X to dispatch your ghost and then kill waves of enemies. Every mission is like this.

My biggest gripe with this game: No matchmaking for heroic strikes or story missions. Having to depend of friends to join you for missions that are impossible to do solo just so you can grind and hopefully get gear that will let you level up is annoying.

All in all, this game was trying to be way too many things and wound up being a mish mash of game tropes that ultimately failed. I traded this in today and got most of my money back.

Destiny feels like the key elements of an FPS and an MMO gently resting shoulder to shoulder, instead of being fused together in a truly creative way. It plays and looks great, and offers many, many hours of entertainment to anyone okay with repeating the same tasks, but it isn’t exactly the game-changing science fiction epic we felt it was aspiring to.
