I don't even know where to begin with Dead Rising 4. Capcom took 2 steps forward and 10 steps back with DR4, I'll start with what I like about the game.

    THE POSITIVE:

    1. No Forced Timer, I personally enjoy not being rushed through my experience because it does not suit my playstyle, I like to take my time to roam around killing endless amounts of zombies and checking out each unique area on the map however I don't agree with how Capcom took care of this. I think for fans that enjoyed the timer challenge/core mechanic of the franchise, It should have still been an option there for players that want to use it and it would've only offered more replay value.

    2. The Christmas setting, It's very rare we see a game get given a specific theme but I did enjoy this theme here from the xmas themed weapons to costumes and overall level design it suits killing hoards of zombies in the strangest way.

    3. The numbers, The reason I liked DR3 even though that game looked and ran terribly was because of the amount of zombies. I had never seen that many zombies on my screen at one time and that experience has been doubled here, I can't express how awesome it is to walk around a corner and just see what seems like thousands of zombies all piled up and waiting for you to tear your way through. And this also serves as the only real major selling point for DR4, The game offers you something you can't get anywhere else but at huge costs and with that onto the negative.

    THE NEGATIVE:

    1. No Co-Op Campaign, There really isn't much I can say about this one, I have absolutely no idea what the hell Capcom were thinking when they decided to remove the DR Franchise's best selling point which was it's Co-Op Campaign experience. My Co-Op memories from DR2 are some of the best gaming memories I have and will probably ever have and with the removal of Co-Op this time around I just felt really sour the entire time playing through always just thinking to myself why couldn't my friend be apart of this.

    2. Performance & Bugs, This game can be a complete mess at times from walking through *solid* objects, Zombies you're required to kill to complete missions straight up disappearing or glitching into walls, Frank getting stuck on nothing for 10 seconds or so with enemies just unloading on you, Entire cutscenes playing without any sound or subtitles (This happened to me through pretty much all of Case 6). And of course pop in textures are still noticeable here, no where on the disgusting level they were in DR3 but they are still an issue and a buzzkill.

    3. The Replacement Multiplayer Mode, This mode is so incredibly rushed in and unpolished it's almost not even worth playing. I don't really have much to say about it as I just haven't felt the urge to touch this mode after playing it for about 20 minutes. Also everything feels awkward unlike the controls in singleplayer, This mode looks like apart of the game but doesn't feel like it.

    4. Impostor Frank West, First off my biggest issue with frank is he's 52 or 54 whichever version Capcom's going with these days anyway why does a 52 year old look like a man in his prime 30's this guy looks nothing like Frank, They dropped the original voice actor so he doesn't even sound like Frank really there was no reason for this Protagonist to be Frank other than to cash in off the franchises fans and their love for Frank West. This honestly bugged me almost as much as not having the Co-Op, it's something that just makes no logical sense and really gets under your skin.

    5. No Endgame or Replay Value, I can't say much on this without spoiling things but I'll just say the ending sucks.

    6. DLC Baited Ending, This also goes with what I said in point 5.

    7. Removal of Psychopaths, This is something I seriously missed throughout my playthorugh, In the older games I always looked forward to finding out what unique kind of crazy I was going to find and I usually enjoyed the neat little cutscenes you got with finding and defeating them. Not to include some psychos posed a real challenge in older games like DR1 & 2. This time around they have been replaced by Maniacs which are basically just pushovers and a sorry replacement for Psychopaths.

    8. Extremely Repetitive Final Boss Battle, I won't go to in detail with this other than saying the Final Boss Battle felt so dragged out I found myself just begging for it to end if you play this game you'll understand what I mean.

    9. Simplified Inventory and Removal of Throwing any Object, This was something I was unaware was gone upon going in but it was the first thing myself and a friend noticed the minute we started up a game of the utterly dull mp. Why can't we do the simple silly nonsense of throwing tables and whatever object we find at zombies and each other? It's a simple feature that's always been there and again Capcom took more than they had to give with this game.

Overall this game is average, If you're a DR fan still give it a go but lower your expectation

    Just a shame, that's all.

Combat is akin to Saints Row, where you are vastly overpowered. You are free to kill thousands of zombies, if not more, in all imaginable manners. Health is regenerative and plentiful. You won't likely die
. Gone is the combo based food and drink system, another layer of game play. There is also no longer co-op or psychopath bosses.

I'm not entirely sure what the point of the game is. There are plenty of generic zombie games out there already - I guess this one will go on to join those. Dead Rising was a unique game, it's success was determined by it's concept. That's gone.

Looks nice though, and there are lots of zombies to kill.

Fans of the franchise - stay away. For the time being, you'll need to accept that the series is just Dead.

This rating is based on the standard of the previous titles, and their subsequent depth and value - since all of that has been gutted, and replaced with nothing this is the score. With a user review, I can help determine an aggregate. If the developers had simply put in the effort, we wouldn't have less of a game. I can't recommend it.

Production values are ace. That's a given. Perhaps it is your cup of tea.

They have oversimplified the game with the following changes; adding regen health, adding
three separate inventories, so there's no need to resource manage anymore, removing the timer (The sense of urgency is gone) oh, and they added it back in a DLC, a checkpoint save system (no more awkward saving in toilets, etc. To be fair I like this change), you can no longer throw stuff, why? Removing multiple endings, and hiding the real ending behind DLC. Really Capcom? Removing the kill counter (now it's a hit counter), removing the psychopath bosses (now they are just random survivors who go down in a few hits), and finally, they slapped every fan in the face with the return of Frank West; Frank is totally different, and not in a good way.

Overall, gameplay wise this game is terrible and is far too easy. However, it has a nice Christmas setting that is great, and they bought Frank's camera back, but that alone cannot redeem this train wreck of a game. Sorry Capcom, you've just lost a fan.

Capcom doesn't support Xbox Play Anywhere, you cannot play the Campaign with Friends anymore and it now has another Multiplayer Mode, the Campaign can be finished in around 7 hours which makes it the shortest Dead Rising Game of all, it only includes one Ending now and other Endings will be provided via Season Pass DLC's, etc. etc.

It's a pretty decent game with some characters, who make a good campaign and story with multiplayer, with a crazy and funky weapons catalog. Not to mention the graphics and 60 fps, a cooperative mode for 4 players that make it fun! But ... hopefully capcom does not **** with the DLC's. Overall: The best video game in the saga!

Being a long time fan of the Dead Rising Series, I just had to write this review to give a statement.
What maintained of the Series is reduced to -> huge zombie masses + some crazy weapons.
But many things were changed.... unfortunately in a quite negative way... As a quick summary: No more psychopaths, no more time challenge, too much health, too many weapons equitable from start -->

What maintained of the Series is reduced to -> huge zombie masses + some crazy weapons.
But many things were changed.... unfortunately in a quite negative way...

As a quick summary: No more psychopaths, no more time challenge, too much health, too many weapons equitable from start --> Absolutely no challenge, strict usage of weapons, wayyy less combo weapons than DR3, Rescuing survivors became uninteresting, all health items heal A LOT and all the same amount...

==> What was a great survival-horror-comedy game in the past became an extremely boring of "100 ways to cut your lawn"...
SHAME ON YOU, CAPCOM VANCOUVER! I hope you find your way back to the roots. Otherwise it's Dead Rising... rest in piecES..

    Here are the details:

Psychopath: These boss enemies, which were always a highlight of every Dead Rising game, are gone... The so called "maniacs" are a horrible exchange... No intro-scene, only some sentences; No challenge: You can kill them with few strokes....

No Time Challenge: The timer is gone.... The game became an infinite sandbox... Zombie masses exist, but you just have to take care your health (a little... it runs out veeeeery slowly)... Weapons have massive life-time and you can carry just too many from start.... While playing the game, slaughtering the zombies became similar to cutting your lawn.....
Also all planning got lost in this way. While in past DR games, you had to plan what to do. E.g. "Ok, I got 5 in-game hours left to solve the next main mission, there is one emergency call of a potential survivor which can only last 2 more hours, another emergency call will end in 3 hours."... This is also no more... There are survivors but they are random people just appearing somewhere to give you a standard "combo-weapon"... yay...

The health bar: In earlier DR games, you always had to take care about your health, having only few health points (4-6), which helped to survive like 8-12 zombie scratches, or 3-4 bites... Now you have a massive health bar, showing 500 points at the beginning... of course, zombies also take more from your health bar. But you can stand in the middle of zombie hordes for minutes before it runs out....

Way less combo weapons than DR3: After finishing the game, i just had to check the numbers, only to realise that DR4 offers less than half the number of combo weapons that DR4 had.

Creation of combo weapons: DR2+3 allowed to try to mix items by random to create combo weapons on certain work benches. DR4 only allows you to build combo weapons anytime anywhere, but only if you already found to fitting blueprint... In exchange, you can always buy the strongest combo weapons anytime at a low price in a safe house.... This really destroyed the whole looting + discovering of the game.... boo!

The weapon slots: DR 1-3 offered you a certain number of slots for everything: Throwables, close range, ranged weapons and FOOD... And you only had few slots (4 at start) containing breakable items... Additionally, certain food was more valuable than others... This means you always had to keep track of your inventory to have at least a health item for emergencies, a strong ranged weapon or decoys (like dynameat) and good during close range items.
Now you can carry from the start: 4 close range, 4 ranged, 4 throwable weapons + 2 food items (healing more than half of your healthcare.. The whole thing is easily increasable to 8 close, 8 ranged, 8 throwable weapons and 4 food items... but having 12 weapon slots and 2 food slots to start with doesn't add any challenge at all.....

Survivors: Yes, it was part of a nuisance to bring survivors back to a safe zone, but it was part of the experience... Now survivors are randomly spawned in the field... kill all zombies or military surrounding them... they drop an item for you and are rescued... walking happily through thousands of zombies... WTF!
Oh well.. when you rescue survivors.. new items become "unlocked" for buying in safe houses...

Strict usage of weapons: In the past, there were some fun possibilities: when you had an axe in your inventory, you can use it as a close range weapon or toss it like a boomerang, just as an example. In DR4 that's no more possible: Food is Food, close range is close range.... you can drop it or use it... that's it.

Food is Food: In all previous dead rising, an orange juice healed 4 health slots, onion rings in contrast just 1. Now, its all the same, no matter if you have a cookie or a whole BBQ chicken... it all heals the same....
And there is no more spoiled food, making everything even easier... yay -___-

The story line: Well, it's not half as bad... not quite DR1-3 quality, but ok. It's just toooo short (average of 7 hours...)

Oh... and there is no adjustable difficulty, no "nightmare mode" as DR3 offered, .....
Honestly spoken: Dead Rising 4 became REALLY boring..

Game isn't complete garbage but compared to previous Dead Rising games it's just a shadow of it's former self. If you never played any Dead Rising game then it might grant you some fun moments. But for me it's complete waste of time for various reasons:
-No time limit in any form.
I know lots of people didn't like this part but for me it made first 2 games so intense if you wanted to go for perfect run (i did many times) and removing it completely just makes game generic. It was challenging and fun.
-No psychopaths. Instead there are maniacs.
Which are very poor replacements. They got no backstory, no motivations, no character or any personal depth. They are just slightly (and i repeat - slightly) stronger versions of regular enemies (often with minions). They die quicker from any weapon than bosses in DR1 from mini-chainsaw. They are simply pushovers.
-No different endings to the game.
Like why ? Game loses any replayability because of that. There is one ending and let me tell you - it sucks. But to be honest it's perfect analogy of the series. Ending is just perfect considering quality of this game.
    -No co-op campaign.
I don't even know what to say about that. It was huge addition to 2nd game and it kept me playing after i beat the game on my own. Now it's gone. But considering game is not exciting at all in single player i doubt co-op would help much here.
    -Completely gutted escort missions.
Another thing that not everyone liked. I did though especially because survivors were different (sometimes they couldn't walk by themselves, they needed specific item etc.). Here you only kill zombies around survivor (which is annoying as hell because zombies keep coming their way and they won't move their sorry asses untill you kill every single zombie in the vicinity and they may get killed before that happens) and he just runs to the shelter. It's tedious and it feels more like collectible or some fetch quest.
    -Changing Frank West.
Now i know people change in time. But Frank changed from DR1 to Case West/Off The Record quite a bit but not to the point you can call him someone else. Frank West in DR4 is not Frank West. He's trying to be funny all the time but really it worked much better in OTR. Here i was embarrassed to hear most of his lines. He also looks MUCH younger than in DR2 timeline (which was 11 years earlier). I just can't take him seriously. They made Frank into someone else. It's just not the same person. Period.
    -Very generic story objectives.
It's just take photos of few things in the room, kill all enemies in the area or go to certain location. That's it. It never varies anything and gets dull really quickly.
-Difficulty set for microbes eating organic remains from the walls.
Dying in this game is impossible. It's easy as hell mode entire game that gives no challenge and satisfaction from beating any part of the game. Even Dead Rising got to this point which saddens me.
    -Smaller things.
Like gutted inventory management, inability to throw anything you want besides throwable weapons, boring side characters, redundant and bad designed open world.
If it wasn't Dead Rising i would give this 6 maybe 7 out of 10. But from Dead Rising series (like every series) i have specific expectations of what i can find in those games. Dead Rising 4 throws them all away and tries to be something it doesn't have to be. It lost it's identity and besides combo weapons there is nothing left from Dead Rising franchise. And if Capcom thinks they can sell me dlc that adds time limit and real ending they are tremendously mistaken. This story mode won't fit for "72 hour mode" because it wasn't created with that in mind. It just won't work.
Thanks Capcom for ruining yet another of my favourite franchises.

Dead Rising is one of Capcom's biggest IPs, but with their more recent titles such as Dead Rising 3, the Dead Rising franchise hasn't been doing too well in terms of sales. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed some of the changes that the franchise has gone through - but at the same time, the developers have also made very poor choices, which I will illustrate in this review.

Dead Rising 4 is a soft reboot. It has entirely new characters, and the only returning character I could find from the old titles was the protagonist of this game, Frank West. This game, like most AAA games released nowadays, is open-world. Like other games of this genre, you will, unfortunately, get a repetitive levelling system, fight extremely generic enemies and collect many different items across the world (collectathon).

There are no psychopaths anymore in this game. If you're a fan of the series, you will likely be extremely disappointed to hear that. If you don't know, "psychopaths" is the term used for both optional and mandatory bosses in the Dead Rising franchise.

I felt that the psychopaths made the game really unique and also added a great amount of additional content through the game via side-missions and cutscenes. This franchise has never had a serious nature, and often I'd find myself laughing at the pyschopaths and even sharing them on social media, causing others to question, "What is this?" and eventually pick up the game for themselves.

There are only very few actual bosses in the actual game. This game has a plethora of generic minibosses, though. This game features "maniacs" instead of psychopaths, which are really just customized enemies with different clothes and weapons. There are no maniac cutscenes. The maniacs have nowhere near the level of detail that the psychopaths in the previous titles had.

I really disliked the story of this game. Dead Rising 3 actually had a coherent story that featured many other characters from previous Dead Rising games and actually had, what I thought, was a functional ending. You can tell this game is a reboot because it doesn't really have any relation to the other games, with the exception of the protagonist whose story had continued where it had left off.

This game is extremely short. Many people can beat it on a long weekend afternoon (maybe 8 hours). You will easily get to level 40 within this timeframe. None of the other Dead Rising games finished so quickly. I appreciate that the developers wanted to make the game easier and more approachable for new players, but I feel that they really alienated older fans of the series.

If you decide to go for all the collectables, then you will spend much more time on the game - but, I personally think that going for most of the collectibles is too repetitive. The maniacs themselves count as side content to defeat but they don't take long at all, and there is barely any side content that really counts as unique. It's mostly repetitive fetch quests.

The kicker is the ending. There are no spoilers contained here. The ending is atrocious and unanimously everybody hates it. It's clearly a poorly-made ending and it's extremely clear that the developers/publishers want to sell a continuation of the game as DLC to continue. There is no overtime mode like the other games had included.

I remember in the old games I was so impressed that the games would have an additional chapter called "overtime mode". After being so impressed by the older titles in this franchise, I am simply disappointed by the lack of effort put into this title. Even with a higher budget and so-called "world-renowned" writers, somehow they managed to create what is a disgrace to even call a game.

I wouldn't have minded if they placed extra optional side-content as DLC, but placing extra chapters after the ending of the game as DLC is an atrocious practice, and one that I will certainly not be supporting.

Always take user (not "critic") reviews into consideration, but base your own opinions after you give it a fair shot. I will try to keep this review as neutral and positive as I can. Please note, I have had this game since release night and have had plenty of time to evaluate.

Being a hardcore fan from the very first installment, I have to say this game really disappointed me, as much as I wanted to love it. (Regardless, I am nearly done 100%ing the achievement list)

It basically comes down to how the game is just too watered down and repetitive. Having a release date set for December due to the Christmas theme was absolutely obvious as a pre-mature release.

My main issues with this game is that there has not been one challenging moment or trial in this game. The static difficulty setting (regardless of a timer) was just one of the many poor development decisions. This is what happens when marketing dollar signs takes over the development teams mindset.

The graphics and most of the mechanics (not all) were definitely good enough for a dead rising, although there are some major problems with collision detection and physics when activating certain actions on vehicles (causing your vehicle to fly across the screen or randomly jolt into a wall) in certain areas of the map. I also felt some of the cut scenes for combo multiplier specials took way too long on certain weapons, that just made me not want to use them and watch the same cut scene over and over again.

The timer controversy could have easily satisfied both parties had they simply added multiple game modes/difficulty settings to satisfy the beginner, intermediate, and veteran players. Having said that, the open world, timer free mode was definitely enjoyable the *first* time through.

The weapons were pretty cool, still humorous and enjoyable to mow down hordes of zombies with, but I was expecting a lot more variety on a console like the Xbox one. Same goes with the limited vehicles.

The consumables are just a lazy afterthought, as every drink/food item/medkit just gets turned into a generic consumable that heals. They took away the mixologist creativity that was so fun in the previous installments, not to mention, these consumable items are located so generously in every location on top of how easy the static difficulty setting is.

I really disliked the fighting mechanics at first, but after a couple hours I understood how much easier it is to switch from ranged to Melee weapons with this configuration on the fly. The decision to be stuck with weapons in a certain category was poor. So many times I wanted to throw my melee weapon, well because I can...but was caught with another disappointment of restriction.

I guess with their decision to take away the timer, came the decision of having a set day and night environment based off of the specific storyline case. It's either day, or night for the entire case; regardless if you explore in the same storyline case for three realtime hours. There is also no difference in zombie horde size or strength if night or day. Something as simple as dynamic environment changes contributed greatly to the extreme repetitiveness when going back for end game trials or exploration.

The maniacs are boring, and I'm not even talking about how a 10 year old gamer could easily beat them down with a 2x4 with a stash of endless consumables. I'm talking about their lack of character...they are just...there...The psychopaths in previous versions had intriguing backstories, that were also interesting and challenging. These "bosses" didn't even have a unique aesthetic appeal.

The camera filter additions and investigations are an awesome conceptual addition, but were executed very poorly, predictable, and repetitively. The storyline was okay (aside from the ending *no spoiler*), Franks "new persona" didn't bother me, and multiplayer is decent.

It was fun to be able to complete the main story campaign with a friend like in previous versions, so I did miss that in this version.

I would say, **** reviews and buy it if you want it. If you are a fan, at least beat the game and get all the achievements as it is still worth having some fun. I however, will not be replaying this base game (aside from the DLC's) ever again, once I'm done with the achievements.

All in all, it's worth it if you have the free cash to get it now and is definitely worth playing at the near future drop pricing, but it will surely be a let down to hardcore fans of the past versions.

I'm sure Capcom will realize their disconnect with fans, which could have easily been rectified by adding multiple game modes/settings along with minor tweaks, and either fix this, or release some cool DLC content.

The issue that disappoints me the most, is that Dead Rising has a decently big cult following, and Capcom had the franchise, the story, the characters, the theme, the resources, the platforms, and still couldn't execute.

    Reclaiming that Former Glory

Off the bat let me say i am a Dead Rising 4 fan, this series just clicks so well with want i want in a zombie game. That said Dead Rising 4 (DR4) only satisfies some of those clicks this time around.

    The Story:

    A return to the familiar

We once again take control of Dead Rising original main character Frank West, that means a return to Willamette, a return to the Mall and most of all the return of the Camera. This time around Frank's sporting a more fit look, a new voice (Actor), a camera (SELFIES!) and a lot more jokes that i am used to.

However there are a lot of story elements missing, the ticking timer that keeps us on our toes, psychopaths have been replaced by manics and very few of them have actual story to them or cutscenes like we are used to. Many of our supporting characters are very rarely seen, most dialogue will happen through walkie talkie, even the survivors are kind of meh (many of them not even having names just titles) You feel very disconnected with the survivors you find outside the main story.

    Gameplay

Inventory has been streamlined and filled with quality of life improvements.

No more sorting between food, ranged, thrown and melee weapons. Each has their own category and selected with the D-pad. You switch back and forth between weapons on the fly, making fighting with the horde a lot easier to deal with. Also the horde are no joke when you get surrounded, you will really start to feel closed in this time around.

Combo weapons and vehicles return this time, many with holiday themed builds. Some combo weapons make a return like my favorite room clearing weapon (Split Shot) but there is a distinct lack of them this time around i feel, but have made it easy to find materials. Most combo weapons only need one distinct weapon that can be combined with a various sort of gear found in a group of items.

Lastly there are 4 skill trees to invest in, from close quarters fighting, health, ranged and scavenging. I found myself investing heavily on Health and Bladed weapons at the start only branching out once i have stalled out on advancing in those branches.

    Graphics

Nothing impressive here, especially on the Xbox one version. The art style fits the previous DR games, which is should. This game isn't meant to wow anyone in terms of visual performance. However i will say the view distance in this game goes to **** in the mall, sometimes it's like the wall isn't there just foggy sky.

    Overall thought of the game:

This isn't a holiday buy, a must buy, or few months down the road buy. Wait for a version of this game to come out, on a system you prefer (A year because it's a one year exclusive to Xbox and Windows 10) that is fully complete with DLC.

I'm not saying this game isn't fun, but 80 dollars (because half the story is paywalled by DLC, no joke the real ending isn't even in the game yet) is not worth it. The base game isn't worth the 60 you will pay. Wait for the steam version (hopefully) that contains all the DLC at a discounted price anything below 50, 60 if you're really a fan.

    5.5/10 Will play again

Dead rising 1 is by far, my most favorite game of all time. and thats no joke. so being able to play as frank again back at the mall seemed amazing, but no. we got screwed pretty hard. Now im not going to go through every nit picky problem with the game like control, or franks new voice actor (which does a good job i just like the old one better) instead i would rather point out one of the things that frustrate me the most that i haven't seen anybody talk about yet (props to you if you have talked about this issue before. DR BARNABY: this man is pretty much the single reason why the zombies were created. And why? because BELIEVE IT OR NOT, Dr. Barnaby is actually a good person...The zombies were an accident created in the attempted to, as Barnaby says (in the first game) "We were trying to mass produce cattle...do you have any idea, how much meat...Americans consume, in a single day? That research was absolutely necessary!" Dr Barnaby is taking a drastic extreme measure to help his country (and while yes kills many people) does it for the good of the people, and not to make a profit...and now dead rising 4...Dr Barnaby has been turned into a money loving, scheming power loving villain. The new story is that all of the original plot was just a complete lie. Now Dr Barnaby is looking for "the truth to immortality" So they can mass produce is and sell it to rich people...REALLY...and you know, what if the original plot is still true...then why would Barnaby want to keep people alive forever to overpopulate the country further to have even more food shortages. Its just stupid, and what really drives home the hurt for his character further are his dying words..."I...haven't...done..anything...wrong..." Those were the words he chose to leave with...and nope he has been a villain this whole time...(shakes head) Now thats just my feelings for one character. How about something gameplay wise. Another two things that i dont see anybody mention are throwing weapons. Is it just me? or are they garbage? Honesty my main concern with them is the fact that they are set to a permanent ark that is stupidly difficult to hit anything with. Why not just right in front of you? Like honesty the throwing items in this game feel like the rocks in Friday the 13th or the textbook in bill and ted for the nes. I know i sound like AVGN now but i just cant believe that they would bring an issue from the old nes days (amazing system btw) its just weird to me tho. Another thing for gameplay is, did anybody else notice that sneaking is broken? And im not talking about sight detection, that seemed to work fine. It was the audio detection. Example: I was on the mission were you have to go shoot up the farm to save somebody right. Did you know you can walk through the main house with a LMG while sneaking, shoot somebody in the face and nobody else in the house will hear it??? Lol ok. Also quick question, what happened to the timer? Like i understand that some people had a problem with it because they felt that they couldn't explore anything. But you do realize the whole point of the original games was you fail the main story and click "continue playing" go ahead and level up a little and try the main story again (and not to be rude but you could also get good, because lets be honest the only hard dead rising game is the first one, partly why its my favorite) but im just saying. The timer added a sense of urgency, which intern, added a cool sense of progression. Going from timer to no timer, i just didnt feel like i was accomplishing anything. Now this review has gone on long enough so im just going to make a closing statement now. One of the most infuriating things about the build up for this game, is the fact that the devs continuously mention that they were wanting to go back to their roots...(oh you mean the first game?) what a load of crap. And so my closing for this, is a list of missing content:
    The timer,
    Zombie rage at night,
    Queens,
    escorting survivors,
    psychopaths (good ones),
    Normal zombies being an issue,
    Also any sense of challenge,
    Any callbacks to the original,
And any love for original characters
AND DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THAT ENDING!!! (triggered)

Firstly, as a zombie game, it's run-of-the-mill, average, and boring. It's got some neat weapons, sure, but aside from that there are no outstanding qualities. It's really just a "Go run around and shoot/hit things for a few hours, kiddo", sort of game.

Secondly, there's no challenge. At no point do you feel like there's any pressure on the player. Good weapons are all over the place.

Lastly, as a dead rising game, this is the absolute worst one in the series. Sorry, but if you liked even a single thing about the first two then chances are you wont like a single thing about this one. Frank west is nothing like how he was in the original. He also doesn't look anywhere close to 50. There's no timer system, there's no savable survivors, there's no challenge, once again.

As much as I would LOVE to give this game a 0 out of 10 for disappointment, I still have to admit that it's not the worst game I've played. It's just average.

A decent game, 7 or an 8. Some minor technical flaws. But ultimately it's a fun experience with some interesting taste in humour. Please ignore the ridiculous scores of 10's and 0's from the fan boys on both sides. They do no one a service.
If you are unsure wait for a sale, you'll get enough game for your money for certain that way.

Single player is meh at best, good fun but no real challenge.

Multiplayer is the worst crap I've played in a long time. Why can't you do the story mode in multiplayer??? WHYYY.

I've been a huge fan of dead rising since the beginning but this is just awful, just awful.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is not Dead Rising, this is a generic zombie slaying game, oh it may say Dead Rising 4, but it is not Dead Rising 4. Because if it is Dead Rising, then it's one of the worst Dead Rising game I had ever played, but for those who are wondering, allow me to give you the details on why this is the worst.

The Game starts with Frank West having a dream...there's no reason, and you will see that comment through out the review. After a pointless dream sequence. We suddenly meet up with Vicky "Vick" Chu who wants to take Frank to the original place where he started his adventure because she believes that there's a zombie research going on. We never get any details about it, but Frank decided to go and teach her the ropes as they make their way to the compound. Upon discovering what happens at the base, she decides to ditch Frank, leaving him to be framed for attacking an unarmed solider.

As you can already tell, TJ Rotolo didn't return as Frank, and the new voice actor...well...did okay at best, but that's not what makes Frank West, sure Frank has other voice actors in other games, but those were side games at best, this is a main series. Capcom Vancouver said that they wanted someone to voice a older Frank, and that voice actors change all the time just like James Bond, but the ending contradicts their statements.

The gameplay is boring and repetitive. And while past games does allow you to kill zombies, they also have a time limit. Sure you can argue that having a time limit ruins the flow and makes it unnecessary hard, but it also builds tension to the game, and it rewards you with multiple endings. Here, if you want the true ending, you have to pay money for it. And with no time limit, there's no tension to the game. Sure you may say that you don't need a time limit to enjoy the game, but why couldn't it be a separate mode, that way you can enjoy the zombie slaying gameplay in the sandbox mode while returning to Story Mode and trying to clear missions under a time limit.

The Inventory system sucks, sure you can argue that it makes things organize, but it's also confusing, If I have 4 melee items on me, then why can't I pick up a small knife and yet carry a rocket launcher, shot gun, grenade, and a medi-kit, but I can't pick up a small knife for some reason. I also hate the Maniacs, and that's because they are boring and repetitive, there's no charm, no personality, hell you don't even feel sad that you killed them, there just bad guys. The same goes to the survivor, and like before it's boring and repetitive. All you do is kill zombies and that's it, sure you may argue that it's also the same for the past games, but at lease they have characters and charm to them, unlike this game.

The graphics are okay (Except for the fact that they repeatedly use the same layout for every single safe house you find) But the sound quality is one of the worst, and I mean the worst I have ever heard. Sometimes they would talk, but suddenly one of the characters would stop talking, and it's distracting, and it's not the only time this happened.

Back to the plot, with the help of Brad, they return to the outbreak when they got shot down by mercenaries called Obsuris, they went out and try to find shelter, and that's the last you will see Brad until very late into the game, during this time, Frank goes out and gather evidence about whats going on in the town, during his adventures he met Vick...who is a **** No I mean it, she betrays a group of survivors who was trying to stay alive, captures and imply that she tortured a another survivor, and even stole Frank's camera and shot the only proof that he has near the end of the game because she believes that he's a sell out. And guess who survived at the end of the game.

So along this adventure, he discovers zombies that are more aggressive then the past 7 games, but they are the same as before, probably even easier than the past games. After some searching around, and stuff he sees, including Tom (The leader of the survivor who Vick betrayed...who is also the only Psychopath you meet in this entire game) He learned that Dr. Barnaby made the virus during the first game (Which doesn't make any sense what so ever.), After getting the evidence, and fighting the final boss, Vick and Brad escape with Frank to the helecopter, but Frank decided to let himself go and get eaten by Zombies to ensure that Brad and **** survive.

Overall, this is one of the worst games I had ever played. The only hope for a good Dead Rising game where fans enjoy is they either retcom this game, or remake the game from the ground up. Otherwise, there's no hope for this game to ever be successful.

It is more like a sandbox game with poor story, and no ambition. I have not played campaign yet but not in a rush too either. It is almost impossible to take pictures without being attacked, and really wish I would have kept my $ for pre-order for Southpark but those jerks postponed it. What I enjoyed about the past games were the psychopaths, and rescuing survivors to have to escort them. This game you clear an area which is super easy, they say thanks and take off. This game pisses me off so bad I made an account to do a first review of a game ever. I would have returned it to Game Stop but they have crappy return policy. Live and learn. Expand

Dead Rising 4 is a game that kind of let me down. I loved Dead Rising 3, as I thought it was a blast of fun. This game, however, is very repetitive, and has, by far, the most annoying escape sequence I have ever played in a video game. The multiplayer also seems kind of pointless. Finally, the game's ending was a little unnecessary.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Frank West returns to Dead Rising! Although he looks, sounds or acts nothing like Frank West!

"Dead Rising" 4 is the newest installment in the Dead Rising series. This game features "Frank West" the hero from the original Dead Rising and the non-canon game Dead Rising 2: Off The Record.

Now, this all sounds exciting and fun, right? Well it's not. This is nothing like Dead Rising. Capcom removed the timer, psychopaths, escorting survivors, the classic hud and much more! So basically they just strip it down to Zombie Killing Simulator 2016.

The game takes place 16 or so years after the events of the first Dead Rising. As Frank West returns to Willamette during another outbreak. This time the map is larger and there's more weapons, but what's the point of any of that if they're just going to remove everything that made Dead Rising unique.

Some things happens during the plot, Frank kills some Maniacs (DR4's weaker and less interesting psychopaths), let's just skip to the ending:

There are NO multiple endings! None! There's only 1 true ending where SPOILER ALERT!!!

Vicki and Brad escapes Willamette by helicopter, but for some idiotic reason, Capcom kills off Frank West! A beloved character during the entire series! In a garbage way! Some Zombies drags him off the character while the helicopter flies off with 2 uninteresting characters! I'm not joking, this is the true and ONLY ending to the game! Due to this garbage ending and a garbage way to kill off a fan-favourite character, I am not recommending this game at all! Not unless you're interested in endlessly killing zombies with pretty graphics! This is NOT Dead Rising and the character is NOT Frank West.

Special thanks to Capcom for ruining another one of my favourite series.

Minor technical issues aside, the game is a blast. Finer tuned mechanics, streamlined inventory management and a combo vehicle accessible map makes returning to Willamette a worth while experience. Less gimmick, more fun. - I also guarantee at the time of writing this that the majority of severely negative reviews from users are people who haven't actually played the game at all.
