It's a pretty decent game with some characters, who make a good campaign and story with multiplayer, with a crazy and funky weapons catalog. Not to mention the graphics and 60 fps, a cooperative mode for 4 players that make it fun! But ... hopefully capcom does not **** with the DLC's. Overall: The best video game in the saga!

    Note:10!

Minor technical issues aside, the game is a blast. Finer tuned mechanics, streamlined inventory management and a combo vehicle accessible map makes returning to Willamette a worth while experience. Less gimmick, more fun. - I also guarantee at the time of writing this that the majority of severely negative reviews from users are people who haven't actually played the game at all.

I am really not surprised by all the negative reviews. Most of them are probably Sony fan boys crying because it is a time exclusive and they have to wait for this game. The story is awesome, the setting and music is fantastic (finally I have a Christmas game to play), the graphics are pretty amazing considering all the action taking place on screen, and it is just a blast to play! It can be very addicting leveling Frank up and I enjoy the fact that whether I can play it for hours, or just a few minutes, each time I feel like I have accomplished something. In the previous games I did not enjoy the timer because I always felt hurried and never got to explore and look for all the weapons, blueprints, clothing, and secrets. I do miss co-op in the campaign, but I am having so much fun playing this gem of a video game that I am willing to give it a 9 out of 10! Expand

Honestly, I really like this game. Usually, I don't get into these types of goofy and over-the-top games. But I rented it just to see how it is and I loved it so much I just decided to buy it. I especially love the combo weapons and vehicles that I can craft using multiple items. A cement saw and a sledgehammer are good weapons individually, but duct tape them together and it's an even better weapon. It never gets old trying out the different weapons and vehicles and then slaughtering hordes of zombies, all while completing missions and hunting for collectibles. And the selfies you can take anywhere and with funny facial expressions is a nice touch as well. This game frequently brought a genuine laugh and smile to my face quite often. It may not be a serious game like what I usually spend my time with but it sure is a lot of fun. Expand

Excellent addition to the series. Everything the fans were asking for and more. Sure, there are some fans that only play Dead Rising and other games because they love to complain, they have made some false reviews out of hipster hate.

I didn't care for the first one due to the major time constraints... it was an awesome concept but didn't like the being forced to do this list of objectives before time ran out. With each passing game the time constraints got better and better... and now, In the 4th one, you are given no time constraints whatsoever. Some may hate this cause it kinda dumbs down the game for a broader appeal. I, personally, like the no timer since I like to explore, kill zombies, unlock things... I mean, with all the games out there I'd like to be able to enjoy everything in a single playthrough and not be forced to play over and over to try and get everything done.

In terms of gameplay it kinda feels like a mix of 1 and 3. The camera came back, since you are Frank West and all, which adds a little something different to the mix... nothing major. The only reason I like the camera aspect is so I can try and capture interesting pictures and turn them into backgrounds for my xbox desktop and stuff like that. Other than that, a majority of the gameplay feels like Dead Rising 3.

I wish I could say more about the game but in the 9 hours I've played the game for I kinda spent most of it killing zombies and exploring. According to the progress tracker, I'm only about 15%-20% done. The fact I can pour so much time into the game and not even notice, or care, should say something about the game itself. From what I've read it's a fairly short game so I probably could've been it already, but Dead Rising was never meant to be played so straightforward. Doing that takes away what makes the game so fun. If you play it without all the side stuff than yea I'd imagine this game would be worthy of some of these horrible scores... but it's not and that's why I, currently, give it an 8. It's not the best Dead Rising but it's not the worst either. Plus, the whole Christmas theme helps set itself apart from its predecessors. Well, it may actually be the best Dead Rising, depending on your preference. I mean, no timer and a Christmas themed Dead Rising game could easily be argued as what makes it the best Dead Rising... and for some it could be why some people like it the least.

I think something off with the scoring here. 4.9 (as of now) is weirdly low for a game as fun as this. Is it perfect? No. Is it GOTY-material or something, that you'll want to play in two years again? Probably not. Still, it's a fun package and lovable amalgamation of that cosy christmassy atmosphere, the movie 'Breandead', bits of MacGyver and some silly one-liners that range from 5th-grade humor to something clever enough to amuse the self proclaimed humorous elite. (Mostly not, though, tbh.)
The gameplay seems a little stale compared with games like the Arkham series, it's mostly button-mashing (-mostly only one, too), but that doesn't mean it's not fun. It feels crazy fulfilling to mow through hordes of zombies with bizarre weapon constructions while wearing a 50's housewife dress and a fedora.
Storyline is indeed a little short, as some have mentioned. If you know that beforehand, though, you can mix your objectives 50% plot related, 50% side missions. I played through the game in about 22+ hours and just now finished the story. There's rumor about some DLC-ending, but that isn't out yet, so can't comment on that. Ending feels fine, though, to me.
I loved DR3 already, so I was sure I'd like this one too. I never played DR1 and 2, so I can't tell you how I'd feel about DR4 having done so. Some here seem disappointed by the missing timer, but I can't say I miss it. I prefer to explore. As someone who feels at home in most things weird, odd and mixed, leading to that special feeling that you can't explain to others, I really love this game. It just makes me happy. It's so jolly, obscure, un-serious and colorful while fun to play. I don't get why people give it a 1/10. Seriously, that's just hating around. It's not for everyone and certainly not perfect, but to you, dear reader: This is not a 4.9. The internet does its weird thing again, don't let that influence you.

Finally, no time constraints, just explore, craft, and kill zombies to your hearts content. Dead Rising has always felt like an arcade experience, and now it plays like one, albeit without the difficulty to force all of your quarters into it. The game is easy. It plays a lot like the Saint's Row games, and that isn't a bad thing. I really enjoyed the humor in the game, there were a couple of parts were it really had me laughing. Frank West is a funny guy, and he just wants a fist bump. The series has always been about creating crazy contraptions and killing as many zombies as possible with them. If you liked the past games, you will probably be better of skipping this one. If you want a game that never takes itself seriously, and a ton of dumb fun, then give this one a shot.

I came into Dead Rising 4 without any expectations. I've played the first Dead Rising, and wasn't a huge fan, really. Killing zombies was fun, but I've always disliked things with timers. Many of the negative reviews I've seen have come from people that have played the earlier installments and were expecting more of the same. I seem to be part of the new demographic that they're targeting, and I guess I'm happy for that.

I thoroughly enjoyed my Zombie killing adventure with Frank. Yes, DR4 will not win any awards for game of the year, only fungal based zombie games get those. I think PS4 folks are a lil butt hurt over the exclusivity and they're manipulating this review.

I very much enjoyed Dead Rising 4. There's a solid core plot, and many optional sidequests that appear for a limited amount of time. And completing all of these involves running around slaughtering the undead or psychopathic humans with almost any object in the world. You can also build combo weapons in order more easily dispatch your enemies.

Combo weapons and vehicles allow for more ludicrous attacks. It's hard to express the satisfaction of taking out dozens of zombies at once with an axe taped to a sledgehammer, swung in insane circles. These gain extra Prestige Points when used on zombies, helping Frank to level up.

I found that boss fights were a little better in Dead Rising 3, but they're still engaging and fun in Dead Rising 4. The fights can sometimes prove to be weird and unexpected, and that is a welcome feature. The autosave function is very good as well. The old DR games had terrible save features, and this game has perfected that feature. After spending 20+ hours with Dead Rising 4, I can't recommend the game enough.

Initially it seems huge, because it’s not easy to get from A-B when a couple of thousand zombies are lurching into your way, but once crowd-dispersing combo weapons are in play its boundaries become all too apparent.

Fortunately a lot of great features form DR3 have been carried over in DR4. There are more than enough optional objectives, such as rescuing other survivors, battling ‘psycho’ bosses, or collecting a healthy smattering of blueprints for new weapon types. The game needed a little more polish, and I wish there were more drivable cars and combo vehicles like in DR3, but all in all, DR4 is a fantastic game.

The game is an appropriate follow up to DR3, mixed with new ideas and older elements from the original, OTR, the CTYD Wii re-worked title. Thematically much of the game is based around Christmas, its open world is tied around the Holiday Season.

The game no longer requires online f.a.q. checking to get the real ending, as the game follows a single cohesive narrative. Those worried they would miss something, or miss the real canon ending or receive timer based game overs, need not worry. The game allows you to complete tasks without missing elements, a perceived drawback of early titles. New Leveling up items and a much higher leveling up system gives you more to work towards. Weapons are more creative then previous entries and you can carry over all your progress to a Game+ on completion. Game escalates difficulty half way through the game.

Maniacs are the new "psychopath" characters, a cohesive group of enemies to eliminate, rather then characters which you could easily miss in previous games due to timer issues. Numerous aspects of the game you would have missed in earlier titles are accessible, but the game does get harder towards the end.. Elements from the original, off the record and chop till you drop type minigames and standbox elements also return.

Combat and gameplay are enhanced, and while the game does eliminate the "overtime mode", (the extended post game mode fetch quest to pad out the game) this game allows you to explore, complete side content from the get go without fear of game over or screwing up your later game progress.

However, like older games from the past, the overtime mode was previously included to stretch the games story a little longer then it needed to be. However the combination of the game+, the more cohesive story (which will lead into 2 sequels) the 'open' exploration and the new toys are far more enjoyable overall.

This game caters well to both old and new, (similar to the predecessor).

While running around in the city risked feeling very loose without a timer or goal, this is counterbalanced by a clear improvement in the controls and a tight ending (so you're focused and invested instead of looking in the map).
Franck is an douchebag in the beginning, but the photo mechanism constantly reminds you in what ways he's different than other protagonists - and by the end of the ok story I ended up liking him and some of the other characters.
The real blemish on this game are not the multitude of glitches (nothing catastrophic, it still plays better than the predecessors thanks to the improved controls) but the removal of a co op campaign. This game's silly humour is way better shared. By reducing the co op to a rushed add on mode and missing the opportunity of a play anywhere cross platform title the devs lost an opportunity to make the game shine and grow a nice community.
It's clear that sacrifices were made to have the game coincide with Christmas (which suited it really well)

Game play is a step up from previous games as the response times on animations are improved from previous games and there are more combo weapons/vehicles as well as the exo suit and accompanying power ups which have to be seen to be believed. Some of the powerups are the best game mechanics I've come across in my 30+ of gaming, you have to actually play them to appreciate them.
Story is rather generic but the dialogue is great, Frank says some very witty things even in throw away conversations, it's that attention to detail that make this game great and every NPC has something to say.
Minuses would be that after about 40/50 hours you recognise a repetitive loop that is based around safe houses, panic rooms and weapon caches found with your scanner. Luckily the main quests/maniacs and just the sheer joy of destroying things makes up for it though all this doesn't really matter until you get past the 30 hour mark.
I thank the gods it has also got rid of the timer/escort missions/toilet saves. To me they were just there to pad out the game and were given a cheap challange angle to hide their obvious we are too lazy to make a proper full length game. Hopefully the main game never returns to that.
The sound effects are awesome, guns, combo weapons, vehicles, zombie noises and music are all top notch though there is an annoying reverb on most voices wherever you may be, inside outside in a sewer or in a house.
Upgrades, collectibles and just the overall menu system are done very well, this is how to do menu's, the background holiday themed faux jazz muzak is very clever and funny.
This is definitely one of my games of the year, if it sounds remotely fun to you go out and get it, just 100% fun in digital form. Don't believe the haters, they come from 2 main groups, PS4 owners who are annoyed that it is a timed exclusives and people who believe it or not liked the escort missions and timer?!?. Both groups are artificially scoring it low so take them with a bucket of salt.

Dead Rising 4 Franks Big Package is a collection of the base Dead Rising4 game, but comes with all dice including Capcom heroes mode, 4 player co-op, mini golf that can be played local and online, and the Frank Rising DLC that takes place after the end of this games story..
I didn’t find any of the extras special…
But this games campaign definitely is…
Dead Rising 4 is my first Dead Rising game... here you play as retired journalist Frank West, all you wanna do is play some mini golf, but youre tricked into covering one last zombie story..
I wasn’t sure what I was going to get out of this game... I was expecting just a mindless zombie slasher game… but there’s so much more to it than this...
For starters the story is throwaway... its here but its background noise to the addictive weapon gathering that is this game...
What makes dead rising so unique from other zombie games is that it feels authentic to what an actual zombie apocalypse would feel like in a cartoony way… practically almost everything in this world can be used as a weapon…
This about 10 and half hour long game starts in a mall but takes place in an open world and I wasn’t expecting the have as much freedom in combat as I was given…
At first I was grabbing the most ridiculous weapons to be funny… ive never killed something in a video game with a giant candycane or a Christmas wrieth…
But as the game went on, enemies started to become a threat and I had to start taking things a little more seriously.. But not completely…
hidden through this games open world are blue prints that will allow you easily combine items for ridiculously powerful weapons... and youll get to experience so many because weapons do break fairly quickly..
Thankfully you’re able to carry a decent amount with you, as you’ll have melee slots, throw able, and ranged weapons…
I was surprised with how unreceptive the game ultimately ends up being as the first hour of the game is what you get until the end…
it’s just picking up new weapons and killing everything in your way until you complete an objective, leveling up and dumping skill trees for more slots for weapons and health pickups and increasing your stats of both you and the vehicles in the world…
Annoyingly though you can’t really drive everything in the world.. But if you look hard enough you’ll always be near at least 1 car to drive of bike to ride…
the game slow down a bit at times for you to investigate areas which I didn’t mind much at all...
changing the pace of the game, letting you breathe.. it allows you to crave the zombie and rogue survivor slaying…
The game does eventually get to that feeling of repetitiveness though…
Thankfully it started to wrap up around that time…
I was over it before it was over.. so I feel the campaigns length is pretty near perfect…
The story doesn’t end with the credits though
Again included in this collection is the Frank Rising DLC.. You’re a zombie version of Frank trying to get cured and escape, but you’re given an hr. and a half real time to do this…
And this mode is just not fun... there are no weapons here.. You’re given 3 zombie moves, an acid spit, a scream, and a pounce… and these mechanics are just awful for combat when guns are involved... you don’t feel overpowered as youre pouncing and eating enemies for health…
You just start getting frustrated as enemies with guns surround you and take you out over and over..
There’s an imbalance here and nowhere near the epic chaos that is the base of this game…
IF you’re a fan of slaying zombie hordes in anyway, you definitely owe it to yourself to pick up Dead Rising 4
I’m tired of Zombie games and even I had fun fighting with ridiculous items, and finding fresh gear throughout the world.
I give Dead Rising 4: Franks Big Package
    An 8/10

In its attempt to draw in a casual audience, Dead Rising may alienate series veterans. While I love the direction the series is taking, I fully understand the sentiment. For those willing to accept Dead Rising 4 for what it is, they will find an over the top zombie-slaying power fantasy that leaves a few presents under your tree.

An unpolished gem, Dead Rising 4 takes most of what worked in Dead Rising 3, throws in some fan service and a great game world to make one of the more fun experiences I have had with a game for a while. The downside to this however is that the game is very, very unpolished. Glitches abound throughout the game and this is playing the game way after release where patches should have handled some of it. If you can look past a few faults in a game then there is a lot here to appreciate and have fun doing.

First off all the fury over the change of voice actor was never that big of a deal to me. I like Frank West as much as the next guy but he's hardly the most iconic of characters, certainly not big enough for me to care they changed his VA. Besides of which (googles) Ty Olsson does a pretty bang up job and by the games end I had come to care and like Franks character. It must be said the games humor takes a little getting used to, it tries consistently very hard to be funny and falls short a lot however in a way this becomes part of the games charm, in essence you get used to the bad jokes and it becomes a kind of "So bad its good" type of deal. At least for me anyway.

What I liked most about the game however was the game world. I wasn't surprised to see an expansive world given the size of DR3 but where DR3 was large but without much to see there is an absolute wealth to see and do in the world of DR4. I will admit that the Mall itself is by far the most interesting part of the map but that in itself impressed me more than a game has for a long time in its design, scale and diversity. Outside the mall the game varies between standard industrial/commercial/residential zones and each location always has something for you to find or see. As a rule I always think that if I stop playing your games main plot just so I can go explore more then you have done a good job of world design. They cater to this with the lack of rushing/time limits meaning you have free reign to do pretty much as you wish from very early on in the game. I spent more than a few hours just going from location to location and seeing what I could find.

The glitches are what stops me rating this game higher and they are frequent and occasionally game breaking. Frank will sometimes run as though hitting invisible walls, sounds will cut out altogether or play at the wrong time (metal footsteps on concrete when those two floor types are close to each other), enemies will glitch into ceilings and walls. It all comes across as a poorly tested game and it is a shame because there is a ton here that has been done very well. Besides the obvious care in the game world they also put a ton of content to find, collectibles that are interesting to hunt, combo weapons and vehicles that are almost always brilliant to use and just a lot to see and take in. If you can cope with the bugs and glitches and are lucky enough as I was to never get one that truly stopped gameplay then you'll have a whale of a time.

The plot was halfway decent, the ending caught me a little off guard but I found the plot far more interesting than DR3 and Franks new **** persona was hilarious more than once. It's a shame maniacs and survivors have taken such a reduced role in this game. The maniacs seem very tacked on and are always just the same formula of a bunch of unique designed foot soldiers and a pretty basic mini boss that will give you a special combo weapon on defeating them. Survivors were one of the best features of DR3 and now they've been neutered to something akin to mission givers which is a shame.

The pacing of the game is much, much better than DR3 and held my interest for the 30 hours (with a lot of exploration) my first play through took. Whilst the end of DR3 was a slog I never felt that way about DR4, it seemed just long enough. As such I feel plenty interesting in the game to go back for some new game + action and maybe try for 100%.

I cannot lie that difficulty is nearly non-existant. I died once and it was entirely my fault for thinking I had to run through some flames to progress a story event and I got insta-killed, entirely my own fault. Besides that though I never even came close to dying once, most bosses were hilariously easy (including a fairly climatic one where you can just spam her grenades and win in 15 seconds flat) and even the standard "super" and "super-duper" zombie types that show up aren't much of an effort to dispatch. But I don't play Dead Rising to be challenged, it's a huge sandbox to have fun blowing things up and slaughtering countless zombies. I can understand people bemoaning how easy this was but for me it's not a negative nor did it ever get so easy I wasn't having fun.

Fun is the main point of this whole series and I had a ton of it playing through DR4. Rough edges aside this was a worthy addition to the franchise and good entertainment value.

A lot of people criticize this game for ungodly reasons. Read this review understanding that I have only played the four main installments of the main game, and I do not review games professional, nor do I deeply analyze any of the dead rising games. Read this review understanding that I have only played the four main installments of the main game, and I do not review games professional, nor do I deeply analyze any of the dead rising games. Dead rising 4 has been claimed to be the worst game in the series, but I do strongly disagree on this. The first thing that I love about this game, is the fact that there is no set time of which you have to beat the game, while the other games have the same stupid time of 72 hours or around three in game days, with this in place, you are not really able to explore the map to its full extent, because you are literally being pushed against the clock. Capcom vancouver thank god, you fixed it and made it so that you are able to beat the game at your own pace. With that being said, it is a fun game to roam around the large mall, and the outside world. the gore and blood factor has been bumped up in the game, which is a huge plus. the amount of zombies on screen can give you a fun time of slaying zombies and having fun. I would give the story mode itself a 5/10, its so predictable and quite boring to be honest, so I would treat this title to be more of a sandbox open world zombie game. So yeah, 8/10 because of the **** predictable story line. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ok so you may think I'm insane about this but as a fan of the series but not getting to play any of the previous 3, I actually love this game. 1. The story may be linear and boring at times but honestly its cus they didn't have much time for the game. 2.Although the gameplay is a lot different to previous games the parts added or changed make it honestly more fun and enjoyable. Like let's say the exo suit. It may be op but really I think its awesome plus u get be all bad ass ripping zombies to shreds with this new suit. Only down side is u only get it in certain instances which means it is sorta fair cus others don't like it. 3. psychos may not be in the game but at least we have maniacs. May not be as good but at least its something.
    4. The humor and stuff in the game is funny at times like when Frank tries escaping a room by throwing a chair at the wall.
    5. Although at times Frank may be annoying or just a jerk its kinda better since it shows a new personality on someone we have seen before and know all of their tropes. The redesign is actually good aswell. Making him look better and at the same time also somehow making him younger. I honestly think its a good game and anyone who loves games that u play as a badass human with some humor as u run and kill things and even parkour (which I like personally) then u should play this game. Also the characters actually have personality unlike certain games.

It's hard to complain too much about the absence of peril when you're wearing the bottom half of a chicken suit. [Feb 2017, p.114]

Dead Rising 4 has some obvious flaws, like a shallow story, poorly executed co-op and the difficulty level that is nonexistent for anyone who has a tiniest bit of gaming experience, but I honestly enjoyed killing almost 15.000 zombies throughout the campaign. [02/2017, p.26]

Despite a few improvements, Dead Rising 4 falls short in too many areas to earn a recommendation. A passable entry in the zombie slaying franchise that wastes the return of its original hero.
