This game is about you liking or not liking the genre. I would describe this game as a boss battling based game. it satisfies me.

Extremely shallow game. Overly-simplistic controls and fighting mechanics combined with a lack of differentiation in weapon feels. Basically what this game boils down to is spending 5 - 30 minutes button mashing the same two buttons.

No crashes reported thus far ( running on Xbox one X ) smooth game play with rare drops of frame rate. The Hub however you may experience some rubber banding, and frame rate drop, but it is easily manageable and not a deterrence to Game play. With all that being said i am enjoying my time in the game. Minus the Few bugs, and server capacity issues most likely due to the cross play function ( a very large positive ) Dauntless hopefully will be healthy competition to Monster Hunter with the new Iceborne expansion coming out in September of this year.

Don't be swayed by the ridiculous 1's and 2's, this game is very far from anything remotely close to that. Give it a chance, and wait on the servers to get in. If you like any of the above mentioned games, you will find something here for you.

Seems bland and cheap , looks like a quick grab for the monster hunter audience . Also the loading screens take years so I have barely experienced the actual game.
    Connectivity issues insane

Outside the initial server issues at console launch I love this game. I'm not into co op like that but love to play this game. Controls and game play are simple enough anyone can pick it up and have fun. Outside of the servers I dont get the hate for this game. Matter of fact time to log in and kill some behemoths.

No way this game deserves anything less than a 7/8. There were connection and loading issues upon launch but they have drastically improved. Also, the devs are working hard to update the game and make it a even fore fun and enjoyable experience.

A bit more simplistic than MHW but actually faster paced and user friendly IMO. Lots of monsters, gear, weapons, and consumables to grind for!

Thanks Phoenix Labs for bringing us this gem; looking forward to more environmental conditions, buildings and NPCs within Ramsgate, modes/activities, etc!

All other games take note. THIS is how you launch a game! Minimal lag, quick load times, no issues. As if that isn't good enough, the game is OUTSTANDING! Easy to understand with enough depth to keep you busy for awhile. Grind fest? Absolutely. Who cares when the grind is this damn good!

Ignore the positive reviews attempting to call out negative reviewers. This is is unfinished, unpolished, and downright boring most of the time.

It's a very basic monster arena. I cannot stress just how basic it is. You'll understand the entirety of the games complexities without the tutorial or any help at all because it's that shallow. It's the exact same artstyle as Fortnite. If

It's the exact same artstyle as Fortnite. If that's your thing, neat. For me, it wasn't. It makes it feel unoriginal and uninspired.

On the PC version there is no option to quit matching-making once started and you are FORCED to join a group and play a hunt even if you're not interested or you misclicked. The only way out is to close the game entirely and relaunch. What were they thinking?

All the weapons feel the same. Yeah sure some are faster and some hit harder, but ultimately their variety doesn't matter. It's a bunch of extra stuff for nothing.

This game could be good but I feel like it's the love child of the developers... The love child that's a product of incest and should have been aborted.

    Just skip this one.

Haters and fanboys exist for every game, and Dauntless is no different. I do not believe the game is as bad as those who claim it basically unplayable, but it’s also objectively not deserving of a 7-10 rating. Dauntless has a unique art style, a fun cross-play mechanic, a basic-but-intriguing upgrade system, and is easily accessible for gamers of all ages. Anyone with a busy schedule can quickly hop on, get a few runs in and log off without having to spend hours upon hours in an endless grind, unless they want to, in which they can. A revive system coupled with a mostly friendly community makes the game less challenging for beginners, and even for vets who may make an occasional mistake. Dauntless is broad enough to cover everyone from the most casual of gamers, to the most hardcore. On top of that, it costs exactly $0.00 to play. HOWEVER. It’s painfully obvious that this is a very poor and shallow attempt at emulating the Monster Hunter World-type games. It is in NO WAY like a Dark Souls style game as some have claimed, outside of the 3rd-person perspective. There’s half as many behemoths in dauntless as there are monsters in MHW. There are also half as many weapons, and none of them really feel too different than the others, save for the repeaters. While much quicker and more streamlined than MHW, there is no “hunting” mechanic for behemoths. You and your party are dropped in to a small, lifeless, completely bare map with no direction, running around aimlessly until you happen across the behemoth in a random spawn location. After it’s found, it’s typically a 5 to 20 minute mash fest of light and heavy attack buttons until you’ve fully built up your special ability meter, most of which you will find are not very special at all once you’ve activated them. On top of being constantly recycled, behemoths have a very limited move set, making most of the game extremely repetitive after the first few fights. This causes the game loop to suffer, as grinding out upgrade materials for weapons and armor becomes extremely boring at the mid-game point. Dauntless is by no means a bad game. It shines while playing co-operatively with friends, and the friendly community also helps if you’re just looking to play solo. It’s a good game to kill some time with, but the lack of any real depth left me with no desire to continue playing after about 2 weeks. I am glad to have experienced the game, but I can confidently say I have no plans of picking it back up in the future. While it may be a bargain dollar-wise, Dauntless may very well end up being a waste of you time. Expand

It's not a bad game, but neither a particularly good one either. This is mostly due simply because of it's repetitiveness in all areas.

On the contrary, I prefer dauntless to monster hunter. The game is straight to the point with decent grind for a free game. Good graphics, some bugs, nice behemoths, interesting "dungeons". Please keep in mind, that even you are going to spend tons of money, you still need some skill to play. The later is a big plus for me.

Dauntless kind of took me by surprise. While I expected a game that was Monster Hunter-like, and it is, I actually prefer Dauntless’ progression path, as it’s not discouraging overall. Yes, there’s a big grind the higher tier you get, but the payoff for finally crafting that new armor or weapon is fantastic. If you’re paired with a poorly skilled team, you’ll most likely fail, but I love that it’s simply fighting the Behemoths without useless filler in between, so getting right back into the thick of things doesn’t take long with the cross play enabled. It’s free to play, so might as well check and see if it’s a hunt you’ll want to partake in.

Dauntless is essentially Monster Hunter but simpler. That’s certainly not a bad thing in my eyes. And to sweeten the deal even further, it’s free. You can spend money to speed up certain processes and make your character more unique if you like, but it’s not required to have a lot of fun. Unlike many other free-to-play games, Dauntless never makes you feel like you’re missing out if you don’t spend any money. Needless to say, if you’re after an action RPG along the lines of Monster Hunter to really sink your teeth into, you can’t go wrong with Dauntless.
