I absolutely adore Shmup’s and even though this game first released back in Japan in 1998 its aged extremely well and without a doubt it has placed itself in my favourite Shmup’s of all time category. For such an old game that has been ported you would expect some problems to occur from time to time, but thankfully that’s not the case. The gameplay held up throughout my time with the game and to say it was addictive would be a massive understatement. Thankfully the game has a decent amount of content to feed your addiction and I must admit that I was very impressed with the amount of variety that has been placed into each mode. I will say though that despite the amount of content the game has I still feel it to be a little overpriced which may be off-putting for some and that’s a shame because the game is absolutely awesome. Something that you will find especially awesome with the game is the shooting elements. Everything about the shooting feels tight and responsive at all times and it really does create a satisfied feeling when defeating the hoardes of enemies. Obviously to take on all these enemies you will need some firepower and thankfully the game presents you with plenty of that. If you like powerful weapons and upgrades then you’re in for a treat here because there is a lot of creativity when it comes to the weapons and the best thing is that each weapon actually feels powerful and packs a punch. My biggest and probably only gripe with this game is that it doesn’t make itself accessible to all gamers and if you’re not a fan of Shmup’s then this is highly unlikely to change your mind, which is a shame because it’s retro and fun. Speaking of retro you will find the presentation side of the game to have an abundance of retro flavour and I enjoyed the offerings here. The visuals and sound design don’t feel out of place even in today’s modern surroundings and best of all they both complement the frantic gameplay so well. At the end of the day if you’re a fan of Shmup’s or even if you only have a slight interest in them then I fully recommend you give Dangun Feveron a try. Yes it may be a little overpriced but you do get a decent amount of content for the price and it should keep you satisfied for quite a while and when it’s all said and done Dangun Feveron gets a big thumbs up from me because it does most things perfectly.
