Since 6.5 is not an option, I’m going to give Cyberpunk 2077 a gracious 7. This rating is me completely ignoring all the bugs and flat out game crashing I’m enduring. I pre ordered the game thinking that this game was going to be a “10/10” I’m extremely disappointed, I find myself getting bored after two hours of gameplay. I haven’t been this excited for a game, ever. And I think Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a decent grading from me because I don’t have any other games to finish at the moment.

Even if the game were to hypothetically “fix” itself with patches, the storyline and character build is not enticing enough to revisit a second time. Though I wish CDPR all the success. I don’t want to hop on a cancel culture train, but this game is simply not all it was made to be.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. well, lvl 44 now so played a fair bit. It is engaging, the main storyline is pretty cool. The interplay with Johnny is cool. Night City is pretty extensive and you can spend a lot of time cruising around. There are some obviously flaws - random crashes, don't go into the settings menu (you can't get out!), I'm not sure if it's cos i'm late in the game but i can't find any crafting recipes any more to craft top tier gear. I do have legendary's etc but they are getting old.
Once you get a decent suite of quickhacks - combat is pretty easy - you can snipe bads from a long distance and they never touch you. Took me a while to find out that melee weapons were pretty good though (pretty powerful too). Levelling up is a slow process so each level is pretty powerful - the skill trees are well designed and make you think hard about where to spend your points.
I've done a couple endings now and there isn't really anything else left to do in the game - other than random side street encounters which aren't very interesting. I do like how some of the side quest chains continue at random times (not sure what the trigger is here) which keeps some side threads going nicely though i think I've run out of those too.
Over all its an ambitious outing and i hope they can tidy it up and add some more longevity to it.
Well worth a look if you like the genre.
(pity you can't get yourself an AV!?)
Playing on an Xbox One X - which runs fine for the most part.

game is phenomenal but boy oh boy does it not run. seriously it runs at like 720-480p at 20 fps. Ive seen mobile games with higher resolution than this. aside from that its a easy 10/10 which is shame since the game dosen't work. still not as bad as fallout 4 and 76 tho lmao.

There is soooooooo much to do in this game and the story is really good and the graphics are fantastic but those points are only a minor part of the story. From the moment I boot up the game I get bombarded with minor irritating glitches all the way up to game breaking crashes. In my around ten hours of playtime I have experienced these issues, among others! Falling through the ground under the map, rubberbanding, rendering not able to keep up with itself while driving. Everytime I move from one room to another I have 5-10 people popping up from delayed rendering. I also have buttons not recognizing they were pushed, sound skipping and repeating, and multiple full game crashes! With this huge list of problems with the game I still give it a 7 because everything else besides those issues is a flawless game that tries a lot of new things I just really wish even half the glitches weren't there because the game itself has me hooked!!

Assassin's Creed Unity would like its glitches and bugs back. Honestly I adore CDPR but this is a disappointment my friends. Note that I am only about 5 hours in. There is room to improve the state of this game but it should not have released as it is by any measure.

Remember when everyone was comparing Fallout 4 at release to the Witcher 3 after nearly a year of updates? It has come full circle. It plays like a generic Ubisoft open world game and without a third-person option/toggle it's hard to get a sense of who you are in the world. I rarely felt like I was in a role-playing game, just a shooter with extra steps. The character creator was (not that it mattered) easy to make a mistake in and there is no way to correct it. It was also a far cry from what was shown in the trailer. The story was...okay, usualy only offering you two options and only rarely multiple dynamic pathways. If you like romance stories, CDPR really over sold those. The combat is often fun for a first-person shooter but nothing that stands out from what else everyone is already playing. Maybe if they fix enough of the bugs the game will be alright. Expand

The game is quite buggy *(Updates seem to be making improvements), however the core game is really good. Were it not for the bugs I would rate it 8.5-9.5 (I have other qualms but that is true of any game). However, you cannot deny the bugs are there and annoying. That said, I still enjoy the game, so slightly above neutral seems appropriate.

Where No Man's Sky failed to deliver

Where No Man's Sky failed to deliver fundamental aspects of their game as promised, and Andromeda was buggy with content that was not very compelling or deep. This is more akin to Fallout 3 or 4, where there are many bugs, but the game is engaging, immersive, and has fantastic depth of story, characters, and universe (probably more than Fallout 4). Do I think this is an acceptable state for a game to be released in? No. But I am also not going to say we should abandon hope for it yet.

I recommend you buy this game on PC. However, if you want to buy the game on a console (or already own it) you could wait for the next generation release, or the game to have its bug fixed.

That said, if the game is still of interest and if you can be patient and navigate the bugs, Right now the game is largely playable (on Xbox One S or X), and some of the bugs will give you a laugh.

The gameplay systems are very deep and diverse, the story is great and Night City is extremely dense. Cyberpunk 2077 is very ambitious and achieves a lot of what CDPR wanted for this game. However, that doesn't mean the game is without its shortcomings.

Firstly, the performance on base Xbox One (and One X to a degree) is just not acceptable at all. I understand developing for multiple platforms is extremely difficult & trying to finish a game during a global pandemic would hinder production, but if the game was not ready on consoles it never should have been sold for those platforms. You should always want to do right by your customers.

Secondly, this game isn't as "RPG" as I had hoped. The game opens up with an extremely deep character customization screen allowing you to handcraft your own "V". However, the amount of control you have over your V from a narrative level is extremely slim. As you progress further into the game you soon realize your "V" is not actually yours but rather a "V" that just so happens to look like you. This is a huge missed opportunity similar to the way the game handles its extremely disappointing Life Path mechanic. Gameplay-wise this is as RPG as it gets but you begin to wonder if it should truly qualify as an RPG narratively.

Finally, there is a severe lack of polish that just takes away from the experience. I am usually very liberal on bugs, but I encountered numerous issues from constantly clipping into walls, T posing NPCs, NPC's teleporting into the road & getting in trouble for hitting them, quests not registering, enemy ai randomly dying as they charge towards me, and extremely poor AI programming across the board. However, what ruins immersion the most is the fact that the NCPD teleport into a crime scene and start blasting anything on sight.

There is A LOT to like about Cyberpunk 2077, but I can't help but feel like the game is just unfinished. I feel like this game needed at least another year in the oven before being out for people to spend their hard-earned money on it. In its current state, I give Cyberpunk a decent 7. A great effort from CDPR. Ps DO NOT BUY ON BASE XBOX ONE OR PS4

I look forward to the patches to fix the minor blemishes that I've experienced, but I certainly don't regret the purchase. It's a game with flaws that was severely overhyped and like others, I fell for it. But looking at what it is and not what it was supposed to be, it's a good game. I want to report I've only played this on the 2 xbox systems as mentioned. So far I've has zero crashes and few to no bugs. I will however note that HDR is terrible on this game and absolutely broken. The colors are all but drained from the game and it looks totally washed out on my 4k display. I don't have junk tv either im playing on Sony x930c and a Panasonic Zt60 plasma. So that my main configuration is on a series X on a 1080p display.

I have to first start out by mentioning that this is absolutely the most beautiful open world game i've played. The lighting in the game and reflections are night are stunning. The 60fps under performance mode on the Series X is the absolute best way to play on console bar none. I've had little to no frame rate drops or hitches in performance. The texture work is crystal clear too. In most games NPC look a whole tear down in quality vs the main characters but, this isnt the case here. The graphics really do show an evolutional step to a new generation. This however is at the expense that base console probably shouldn't have even been released.

The music is totally rad. I'm loving all of it and the only complaint I have is that its not on enough in missions.

The skill tree and leveling system is good but it is in no way unique or special. In fact this game is such a rip off of Deus EX I cant believe no one is pointing it out. If you liked Deus HR or MD you'll like this too even if its not nearly as good and is a blatant rip off.

Cyberpunk isnt this massive revolutionary game it was toted up to be and will probably let people down based on hype and expectations alone. However there is a solid open world game here. The missions while not flushed out and as polished as they should be can be fun. The real experience here is just how exceptional the main story mission is. Everything revolving around the scripted story is aces where as everything else feels like slapped together content. Over all I think its really fun game and experience that you should get around too albeit maybe a little later once its patched more and cheaper.

Unfortunately the immersion is broken by police that spawn out of nowhere and NPC's which ignore you walking around with your dong out.

The story though is engaging and enjoyable, with varied missions that aren't too laborious. Characters are likeable though there are maybe a few too many. Sometimes your phone rings non stop and different characters introduce themselves and it can feel a little overwhelming.

I trust CDProjektred and I think they will eventually deliver on this game. If any game has identified the broken vision of the harmony that Microsoft have tried to deliver across multiple generations of consoles, it's this one.

Disclaimer: I have been playing this game on Xbox Series S with backwards compatibility mode. As a result, I haven't had any performance issues during my gameplay. Hence, consider this while reading this review.

Time: Currently played 25 hours with lots of side quests and a bit of story.

Graphics and Performance: To start with, graphics are terribly rendered. Compared to PC version, loads are slow, and colors are over-saturated making the game feel as if it is made by an indie studio over a limited budget. Hence, the highly saturated colors makes it feel like it is trying to hide the badly rendered textures. Human models (apart from main characters) feel like they are drawn using pastel pen and put into game without adding any shaders. Moreover, some UI choices are questionable. The start menu map is very hard to use because of its color choice. Icons are bundled into places where it makes hard to understand where they are exactly and how to go there. It would have been way better if they just used a typical 2d map. Moreover, the inventory/journal system is almost directly copied from Witcher 3 which I have found clunky.

Bugs: When it comes to the bugs, I haven't encountered any game breaking ones. This doesn't mean they aren't annoying or require you to go out of your way to finish tasks. There are numerous bugs such as NPCs walking through hard objects; random NPCs and vehicles spawning right in front of you or ON you, causing you to take damage. I have also encountered cases where the task relevant enemy NPCs teleporting in and out of the playable area very rapidly, making it a pain to finish the tasks. Moreover, I have encountered bugs where mission relevant NPCs or items not spawning at all, requiring you to leave the area and restart the game for it to be fixed. I will update my part about bugs when I play more.

Open-world gameplay: Level design is probably the best part of this game. There are so many details embedded into the world. There are vibrant side-quest stories, meaningful background chatter, lots of books/articles/magazines that you can collect which gives tons of information about the world of Cyberpunk. You can spent dozens of hours just hunting such information learning about the lore of the game. There are many elements to discover such as different clothing shops which sell different clothes; numerous cars that you can hunt by following side quests to unlock, bars/food places; weapons shops. If you are type of person that hunts lore, this game gives you plenty content.

On the other hand, the open-world random encounter (like the ones in RDR2) feel forced and boring. Unlike RDR2's random encounters, there are way too many street events that are way to similar. Such events feel like they have been just replicated across the maps so you get more opportunities to grind for level. I understand this is typical in many RPGs. However, unlike other RPGs such Cyberpunk random events feel bland by not providing enough incentive to enjoy such events like rare drops chances etc. (Even if there is such chance of drop, I am yet to encounter it.) They are just soulless grind options for you to get skill points.

One last note is the path-finding used for navigation. It seems to me that the base code for the functionality is taken from Witcher: a game whose map is mosstly flat. Unlike Witcher 3, cyberpunk has multiple floors in each building and several layers of the city. As a result, the navigation suggestions are very confusing on the map, jumping between points you have already been. Minimap line drawing are lifesavers on the other hand. If you get stuck, just followed the line on the mini-map.

Story: I haven't finished the story yet so I will include my view on it when I am done.

Side-quests: These missions are mostly fun and interesting. They all have small story lines which some of them are more interesting than the main story missions in my opinion. Game provides a ton of side quests from the beginning (starting from 5-6 hours into the story). You can just walk up to certain NPCs on the street and pick up such quests. Later, you can collect contextual information about the story line of side-quests from the environment like described above which is a nice touch.

Level progression: I have found the level and skill progression very nice. Both main quest line and side quests encourage you to level up before fully going into a single story line. Along with main quest line, side quests improve in its requirements for you to have certain skills improved for you to be able to have the mission relatively easy.

Overall: I haven't found main story characters interesting but side quests appealing. Combining this with the bugs and graphics of the game I can only give a 5/10. As I have said I will update my score after finishing the game.

The frame rate and bugs are terrible. But it's an amazing game if they can work out the issues it'll be a 10 out 10

Bugs aside, the story and characters are great I’ve powered through the bugs and crashes and **** graphics for the story, because I know when I go to do my next play through it’s going to be beautiful

I know that score of an "7" is weird while so many people have problems with bugs, bad optimization, and other things that suggest Cyberpunk 2077 is in a beta program. My review (or more like an opinion for now) is because of a platform I used to play this game, which is Xbox Series X. I think that in the quality mode it runs "okay", just a few and only minor bugs (like a car spawning on the top of another) and that's all. I understand other people's anger about this premiere and I hope CD Project RED will patch this game as soon as it is possible. Not only because I want to play without bugs, but simply the situation this game (and company) is going through right now is delaying "next-gen patch" which will make this game a good title for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. At least this is what I am hoping about. Expand

It’s because of this fun gameplay and this great story that it’s such a shame Cyberpunk 2077 performs like it’s still in alpha.

Overall, I think there’s a lot to like when it comes to Cyberpunk 2077, which has been unfortunately marred by poor performance issues on a number of platforms, and some poor communication (along with some overpromising) on the part of the publisher. It’s clear that a lot of work went into putting this game together, and it’s unfortunate that it had to release in a state that feels a little unfinished. It’s still a game you can very much derive enjoyment from, even in its current state but your ability to overlook open-world bugs and performance issues is certainly going to factor in quite a bit.

Cyberpunk 2077 didn't meet my expectations, but also didn't disappoint me. It delivered an RPG experience like no other, delving deep into themes like control, awareness and addiction. The combat is great and the graphics are amazing, but the bugs and some under-cooked systems make it seem like the devs got lazy, and that's always a bad sign. (Played on Xbox Series X)
