Cryogear on Xbox One is a stylish throwback which packs enough content to keep players entertained for hours. Despite not being the most challenging of its ilk, it’s a solid action-RPG platformer that more than deserves a look.

If you’re into tough, obtuse adventures that may or may not reward you for exploring and soldering on through multiple deaths, then there’s a good chance you’ll jive with Cryogear. If it’s more of an action type platformer you’re after though, then absolutely steer clear. The lack of direction, the unclear inventory and crafting system and combat mechanics will likely have you reaching for the off switch soon after starting.

Gameplay is dished up with nice open areas with plenty of vertical and horizontal space. You take charge of a clone that has just woken up, as such your character is given the ability to upgrade with a nice skill tree as you progress along with ability to craft as you go along using picked up items. Cryogear certainly has a lot going on and gives enough depth to keep things going, however once I put the game down for a little while I did find I lacked the want to pick it back up and that despite the amount going on it was missing something that I just couldn't quite put my finger on. Cryogear does provide a interesting story albeit maybe a bit bland, it is enough to make you want to follow it. Cryogear is 2D Pixel art game, I normally find these quite pleasing with the retro vive that comes along with them, Cryogear is no exception here, while it may not be near the top of list of recent games with this style it doesn't let you done and brings enough to the table to set the game with a nice areas to explore and some fun character design. Overall: Cryogear is not a great game but not a bad game, it hovers somewhere in the middle, it had potential but somehow something felt missing and didn't give me that spark to just keep pushing through. I do like it, just wish it was more. Expand
