Cross code is a pleasant spin on what I was initially expecting. The graphics weren't as basic as a retro game is like you would have at first expected. The controls were intricate for a game of this genre, but they were easy to get a handle on and with the simple level up system it remained to be quite fun. The game promotes a fun filled combat system which can vary from ranged and melee or assist with versatile combat. The puzzles that are in the game are fun to do and requires some effort but none were overly difficult you would need to look up or become frustrated over. I also enjoyed the story behind Lea. That was fun to learn as well. All in all the price of admission is more than reasonable and very few flaws in the game re present. A must add to your Xbox one library. Expand

Crosscode is an interesting indie RPG that takes place inside an MMO. You play as Lea, a girl who has lost her memory and is stuck in a video game world where she is the only one who is not being controlled by an outside player. This game is a JRPG with very heavy narrative elements but also manages to feel like a real MMO where you play with other real people. The combat is fun enough that griding doesn't feel tedious and is actually rather enjoyable. Quests are everywhere and are some of the most fun I have ever seen in gaming, period. This game's main downfall are it's puzzles. Some are really clever while others are really poorly designed. Regardless of that, they are really, really hard. In retrospect, none of the solutions feel fair or obvious but strange and tedious. These puzzles are typically located in dungeons which are a staple of MMOs but feel nothing like an MMO dungeon. They feel like long, over-complex Zelda dungeons, and by long, I mean SERIOUSLY long - you get a special reward for beating it quickly if you take less than an hour and a half! If it weren't for the puzzles and dungeons this would easily be one of my all-time favorites.

RECOMMENDATION: If you like The Legend of Zelda dungeons, JRPGs, MMOs, and/or difficult puzzles, you should buy this game. Otherwise, do more research before deciding.

    Final Verdict: 8/10 (Great)

Tight platforming and combat, satisfying (if challenging) puzzles, and only a sprinkling of grinding (for the completionists; entirely optional). The story is intriguing, too. Obviously gorgeous with a nostalgic-though strong-score. I'm 19 hours in and hooked.

CrossCode is a love letter to 16-bit RPGs and action-adventure games and features a fun projectile-based combat system. Its lengthy development time was well-spent, and it’s clear that time was used to put together an RPG experience that’s completely worthwhile. Whether or not you play a lot of RPGs, there’s a lot to love here.

CrossCode is a fun medley of gaming styles which some can link to the older style Zelda games with its combat and puzzle elements. The RPG side of things does provide a lot of the content of the game, but it does sometimes seem the main focus is all the different puzzling elements, with the combat feeling a little filler to pad out the game until the next puzzling section. The variety of side quests will keep you busy, although some of the fetch quests can be a bit tedious. But the story is interesting, and it is very fun to play through, so I strongly recommend it.

CrossCode is, for better or for worse, an overachiever, and quite successful at it for the most part.
