It's Crackdown 1 but bigger, badder, smoother and way more beautiful. Blow stuff up, collect orb and climb things. It's all I wanted in a sequel and I'm having a blast with it so far!

No idea why these reviews are as negative as they are. Considering the Crackdown series history (and having played the INCREDIBLY repetitive first game), this one is unapologetically fun. That's the best summary you can get.

If you like Just Cause, you will likely like Crackdown (and it hasn't crashed yet, so that's better than Just Cause in my opinion). No, you won't be flying in a wingsuit, but the map isn't big enough to justify flight, and grinding out the paltry number of levels you need to reach max rank isn't bad. Gameplay is smooth, each of the encounters is unique and fun, even if some of the actions you need to do at the encounters is relatively similar. People who **** about the art style likely hate Legend of Zelda: Windwaker, too, so take that for what it's worth.

BUT WHEN YOU HIT MAX RANK, THE FUN STARTS. For example, the Explosives group gets a hidden perk called Apocalypse that freaking blows up EVERYTHING and REGENS EXPLOSIVE AMMO. Your melee? Becomes an explosive punch that takes out TANKS. Your jump? Well, now you can essentially fly.

It's hilarious, it's dumb, it's AWESOME. Terry Crews also says a ton of hilarious lines at each of the propaganda towers or when just jumping around, so when the reviewers complain that he doesn't have a lot of lines, I don't know what they are smoking.

It's a solid game, I recommend it if you want to shoot the **** and hear some hilariously over-the-top lines.

Played only a solo single campaign. Great game, but with some limits. It isn't for everyone, but really nice continues whole series style in 4K and HDR. Who don't likes first two games 10 years ago, didn't like this one as well. But for the rest - it should be tried at least. Jokes, atmosphere in the game, all this sandbox... I really enjoy it! But not for a full price, an only a single campaign.

Here's a simple test to see if you are the right audience for Crackdown 3: Did you play and enjoy Crackdown 1? Was the last time you played it the year it came out? If you answered yes to both of those questions then you should absolutely buy this game right now. If you answered no to either one of those questions then you should try before you buy or wait until it comes down in price a bit. Simple.

This game is just fun. The story isn’t anything spectacular, but it’s entertaining. The characters are fun, and villains are unique, and options to play as different characters is a good addition. The online mode isn’t great, and only cause it doesn’t seem to be played by players. With the sheer lack of decent first party titles Microsoft has put out this generation, I'm happy to say we finally got one. Whilst it certainly doesn't one-up Sony's current offering on PS4 (having played and loved Horizon, Uncharted 4, GoW and Spider-Man all in the past 18 months), it's a good enough effort which seems to show they aren't down and out just yet.

Bonus points for the value of Microsoft's Game Pass deal - I played Crackdown 3 using my £1 month for which I cannot complain.

If you liked the original Crackdown games but are still skeptical, ignore the reviews and go try it for yourself. You will be surprised.

The bad: It does not have the best story. Some planes in tall buildings seem scalable but they are not and there is no flash or mark that indicates which ones are scalable and which are not. The missions are repetitive. The curve of difficulty at the start is very warm but the final phases sticks a puzzling high. The personalization of the agents is very limited and the agent models are very few.

The Meh!: Apparently many are evaluating the game only watching videos or Beta-Tester versions or test versions of Insiders, which are far from what is the final game.

I like Crackdown 3. It isn't earth-shattering. It isn't world changing. But it's a ton of fun. Crackdown 3 doesn't try to reinvent the wheel. It doesn't try to in any way change the genre it is coming from or really move it forward. It instead attempts to refine what Crackdown was to a razors edge and deliver addictive combat that remains fun from beginning to end and offers a ton of replayability. And I think it succeeds brilliantly at that. The story is fun and over the top but is also not at all serious or critical to the experience. Crackdown 3 "really makes you feel like Spiderman." Graphics are competent. Not impressive in any way, but beautiful in their own way when you have the right hardware. On Xbox One X, or a GTX 1070+, you get drop down gorgeous 2160p HDR support. And this game does HDR better than nearly other game I can think of. The skyline is beautiful, the world design has some genuinely pretty moments, and the art style is pitch perfect to what the game is. Textures are competent but uncluttered, spartan in their aesthetic, but they stand out in delivering the design the developers wanted. Score is good, sound effects are solid, but the mix is bad. I immediately changed the mix to 80% on everything except character voice, when I noticed Terry Crews was basically whispering in the background. Once I did that, the final product was quite enjoyable. Not sure why they hid the character voice so much. Driving is the weakest part of the game, but it remains fun as well. ESPECIALLY when you have fully unlocked the agency vehicle. This game is, at its hot, a beat em up collectathon, and in that regard I've had a blast with it. It is one of the few games on the market I genuinely want to 100%. Carrots are spaced perfectly to reward you with new mechanics each time it begins to feel like it is dragging slightly. All aspects of the game are playable and fun, and the unlockable characters go a long way in diversifying it as well. Co-op is greatly appreciated and feels just as fun as it always did. The online multiplayer was necessary to fulfill promises made before Epic bought out Cloud-gen, but it's serviceable and not much more. It IS fun, but I don't foresee putting in 500 hours on it or even 50.

Are you still reading this review? Then stop thinking about it. Go play the game. It's a lot of fun and I think you will enjoy it. It isn't making any GOTY lists, it isn't going to be on your "most impactful game I ever played" list, but when somebody mentions it to you in conversation in 10 years, you'll say how fun it was to play.

Put it simply, if you are Crackdown fan, you most likely will love this game, and even if you have never played Crackdown before, if you just love some mindless crazy action filled fun in a game that does not take it self to seriously this game might just be a game for you anyway. It even gives you the ability to play the campaign in Co-op and with the correct friends that can make the action almost double the fun.

    so how about Wrecking zone?
I can not deny that it is very disappointing that at launch it is not possible to play the multiplayer with a friends in a Party, but this hopeful will be available later on . However for me personally it does not matter much, as I most of the time play online on my own anyway, do however realize that this is a big down side for a lot of people.

The story is about as deep as a puddle, and so are the characters, but that's fine, as you don't always need games to be cinematic masterpieces, sometimes you just want an episode of Jackass! If you liked the 1st CD, then this is more of the same and takes you back to a time when you could just enjoy a game for its over the top silliness. But when the same game was promoted with such a high technical bar to be released lacking a core mechanic, it feels disappointing. CD3 plays like Crackdown should. It's kinetic and over the top. But Microsoft promised us a fully destructible world and partially reneged on that promise. What is left is a sequel to the first Crackdown (where CD2 barely registered as a DLC-worthy expansion of CD1). That said it's a VERY good sequel. I'm having fun barreling through the game. That counts for most of my positive score, the rest comes from a diverse smattering of tasks that works well enough, rewarding exploration, and the addition of a second narrator, an tragically overlooked positive in this game.

Multiplayer is where Microsoft kept their destructive promise... and failed to capitalize on MP design principles that have revitalized MP over the last five to seven years. The MP portion plays like a highly kinetic deathmatch where maneuvering and picking the "right" cover matters, but it fails to build on the advancement metagame that has become the bread-and-butter of multiplayer. Good news is if you don't have the time to dedicate to grinding out a useful character, you can still jump in with any weapons you want and have fun. Arguably, the hardcore player will burn out of this MP mode quickly, but the average gamer will spend about much time in MP as they would in any other game before moving on.

And that brings me to how this game is getting rated and released. This is a casual game when all is said and done. It's fun for people who want to have fun. It will be an annoying flash in the pan for today's esports obsessed pro-gamer wannabe. There's room for all at the table, but maybe this is a game that doesn't need to be taken as anything more than what it is.

As a result of all this schizophrenic confusion, Crackdown 3 WOULD be relegated to the bargain bin, and a great bargain it would be... that is, if digital distribution weren't such a pervasive factor in this particular game's distribution. This is the perfect Game Pass fodder and it adds so much value to that proposition when you aren't paying $60 for a single. In short, it's a reason to AT LEAST try Xbox Game Pass if you have a free trial. If you're already subscribed, it just became a no-brainer. Play it. If you have to pay $60 for it, I recommend it for fans of past Crackdown games or people who just like free-roaming over-the-top sandboxes. This game is so polarizing because of this conflict, in my opinion.

In conclusion, CD3 plays tug-of-war with innovation and convention. Where it innovates, it fails to capitalize on contemporary design. When it nails the fundamentals, it doesn't realize the promises of it's emergent ambitions. In the middle is a solid game, not one worthy of the weight that Microsoft yoked it with, but worthy of your time.

And not worthy of your zeroes.

I will add a caveat that I played the Xbox One S and PC versions and found the PC version with a sufficiently powerful PC to be superior. The game is available on Play Anywhere so you should try it too.

Guns feel good and the lock-on feature works quite well and that was one the aspects i found kinda boring in the original but this is a different kind of 3PS where breaking line contact and using your mobility to your advantage is the name of the game.

Ive played the original a few years ago and couldnt get into it but C3 feels better to play and IS surprisingly fun.

The driving aspect of the game is abit "weird" as i like to jump from rooftops to traverse the area.

Graphics are FINE, nothing to boast about but theyre FINE.

Music is good, electronic sci-fi dubstep feel.

This game has been overhyped and at the end of the day, devs didnt quite deliver what they originally promised with the destruction in the campaign.

C3 has a solid funfactor and my score for this game is 8 of 10. It does NOT deserve all the hate its been getting, im having genuine fun with this game and wnat to get right back into it.

I do have to complain about the sound quality tho. Overall, sounds are fine, but the lead characters voice acting sounds muted compared to other sounds, so its kinda hard to hear what the hero is saying in the midst of all the noise. Now matter what you do with the sound settings... So, kinda glitch on the sound levels there, one which they have not fixed to date...

To put the premise quite simply, you're part of an agency of super-soldier law enforcement officers sent to New Providence to shut down a corporation that's been instigating global blackout attacks on cities across the world.

On entry, you and your entire crew get utterly vaporized by Elizabeth Niemand's mechanical dragon and you are only, just barely revived with none of your superpowers by a member of the city's resistance. Your goal is to liberate the city, eliminate TerraNova's kingpins and end the blackout attacks.

    Firstly, the problems...

Crackdown 3 has a boatload of collectibles and it's a very tedious task to complete this game 100%. Thankfully this game does have a few quality-of-life changes above the original which makes this task somewhat less tedious, i.e. being able to track down the number of Agility Orbs remaining in a given region of the city.

This game also has a "reverse difficulty curve" whereby early objectives will be difficult to capture and you will die a lot, until you've levelled your abilities up, after which the game becomes a cakewalk.

Two of the bosses (including the final one) are exceptions to this rule and are so very cheaply designed that I've had to cheese my way to victory through unorthodox strategies on both fights.

Please note that this is based on the Super Agent (second-hardest) difficulty, which I've beaten. I am currently doing a run on Legendary and the aforementioned initial difficulty spike is far, far more apparent.

Also, if you're expecting to hear Terry Crews drop loads of quips and unforgettable one-liners in this game, dream on. Commander Jaxon, the character that Crews lended his voice and likeness to, was a major marketing and selling point of this game, yet he doesn't even survive the opening cutscene and literally gets turned to radioactive dust within the first three minutes of play. Sure, you can choose him as an agent skin, but you're not gonna hear him say anything for the whole game.

    Now... the positives.

The game controls well, has a plethora of vehicles, although regrettably no planes or helicopters. It plays about as well as you'd expect a futuristic superhero GTA clone to play and has one of the best lock-on targeting systems I've seen in any video game. It also hasn't changed much from the very first game, which is both a good and bad thing.

Lore-wise, the game is packed deep with it, if you're willing to take the time to unlock audio logs and transmissions. It also makes a few calls back to the very first game.

Crackdown 3 is a blast to play, and overall a great package, that said however, this game does have some serious issues that can't be glossed over, while the campaign is great, the multiplayer mode is seriously flawed.

    Pros:

*Despite common complaints that the game looks "dated", it actually looks pretty good. Obviously its not groundbreaking, and it can be better in some areas, but its not offensive, and overall pleasing to the eye. People are expecting Gears of War 4, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, God of War and/or Spider-Man realistic art-style, but its clear the game is going for a comic book art-style and uses cel-shading. "

*The amount of weapons available in the game is huge and varied, and pretty every one of them is fun to use. Very fun to experiment with.

*The game likes to spice combat up with a huge variety of enemy types to keep you on your toes. Whether it armed enforcers with shields, construction mechs or gunships, the game is constantly throwing new enemy types at you.

*New Providence, the island city/state you play in, is overall a great open-world location to explore. This neon corporate dystopia offers such locations as slums, quarries, construction sites, factories, city blocks, highways and towering skyscrapers to explore.

*Much like the old 3D collecthon platformers that used to dominated the Nintendo 64, Crackdown 3 features a huge of amount of collectable items. The key item you'll collect in Crackdown 3 is Orbs (although you earn some by simply racing, shooting, using explosives and physically assault foes).
The green Agility Orbs upgrade your agility, allowing you to run faster, jump higher, and upgrades your booster, while the blue Hidden Orbs upgrades all abilities. Collecting Orbs is extremely addicting, and you'll often waste countless hours hunting these down so you can evolve your character.

    Cons:

*While driving in the game normally is quite fun, driving in street races is absolutely awful. You have almost no room for error, and driving physics don't seem they made for sharp turns.

*The multiplayer mode, Wrecking Zone, is a mixed bag, and you shouldn't buy this game for the multiplayer mode. The actual destruction physics is impressive, although not as impressive at the Pre-Alpha footage we saw in 2015, and clearly had to be toned down to work at all. People do complain about the multiplayer featuring lock-on aim system, but this is a stupid complaint, as trying to hit fast-moving opponents in vertical oriented levels with a controller is actually quite difficult, hence why in this type of game, you need such a feature. The actual game modes and weapons available in the mode are good. The main problem with Wrecking Zone, outside of the notable downgrade, is its missing a lot of features and lacking content, such as ability to play with friends, only has 3 levels, game progression, etc. Unless they add content frequently like other multiplayer games, the online community won't last long.

Crackdown 3 has had its problems over the years in development and at one point almost didn't see the light of day. Thankfully they ended up finalizing the game and while it isn’t perfect I admit that in a way it was worth the wait because it we hadn't waited for it we would have had much less of a game to play than the final product turned out to be. It does offer you fun and enjoyable moments throughout. This fun and enjoyment is seen across the game because it features a story that’s interesting and Terry Crews well obviously remains funny and features a presentation that make it satisfying. Exploring the world then is always rewarding and with a decent amount of content included there always seems to be something to do. You will however have to deal with a few technical issues every now and then and the level design does lack in terms of variety, so expect things to get a little repetitive at times. Despite this the gameplay is fun and the combat has a ton of depth within it i.e. tackling enemies and blowing things up is exciting whether you play on your own or with a friend. I recommend that you play the game co-op instead of single player, because the gameplay is more unpredictable and exciting when played in this way. All in all Crackdown 3 has delivered what I expected it to deliver and that is a game that doesn’t take itself too seriously and it has a few issues I still recommend that you give this game a go and see what you think of it personally. Crackdown 3 promised to be more of a fun and entertaining game. He never promised to be the game of the year or something that many would love.

I understand that the game had many delays during these years, is more I do not know where they mention that Crackdown was only smoke, when in reality always in their trailers showed what really looks like this in the game.

First I will tell you the positive of this game.
    * Crackdown 3 is the best game in the series, and undoubtedly improves everything that was 1 and corrects the errors of 2.
    * It has an interesting story and that for my taste was good, I really entertained myself, even the humor of Terry Crews was very good, it is also cooperative and you can also play alone.
    * It has a great variation of weapons for combat
    * Some of your missions can be entertaining since it is not so repetitive.
    * The locations on the maps has also improved, something that actually since 2 had that error.
    * His cinematics are good and well elaborated.
    * Your multiplayer is very entertaining and addictive

    The negative of this game.
    * Their mechanics are very simple and repetitive
    * I must admit that some designs of buildings or cars are very simple looking game 2009, but his art is what saves without affecting the gameplay.
    * His story is short, is something I expected more to entertain a good time.
    * There are few variety of game modes.
    * In the multiplayer you can not invite friends.

In conclusion: this game is very fun and meets as mentioned above, but I know you can see some of their mistakes so it does not make a bad game, if it is not a very decent game, something I would like to say is that At least this game would mark the end of the old Microsoft. And a new one will start with the purchase of their new studios.

If you're looking for a fun open world third person shooter this game will have you covered. Crackdown 3 will not have a deep story, but it will have some mindless fun. I can only recommend it more if you have the Game Pass then it is a must otherwise I would say wait for it to be in the BARGAIN BIN.

I really do not get all the hate towards this game. Sure there isn't anything particularly innovative going on here, and sure perhaps it does feel a little out of its time period. But god damn if Crackdown 3 isn't addicting as hell. The controls are tight and precise, the gun play is engaging enough, and the orb collecting is still a pleasing factor.

Now as far as story goes, there is not much here, but if you walk into this game and accept it for what it is ( a mindless platforming, orb collecting, super hero shooter) then I guarantee you will easily burn through 15 to 20 hours of Crackdown 3 with a smile on your face.

Again, Crackdown 3 is a bit of mixed bag in terms of innovation, but there is something niche about staying in your element...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Crackdown 3 has something that a lot of games right now struggle to gain even after years of updating. A genuinely fun experience. Can that make up however for general lack of depth in story and overall setting?

Crackdown 3 presents its much like the first one. You are a bad ass agent starting from the bottom and you slowly but surely build your agent based on how you fight and what you choose to do. Each level in each skill unlocks new moves and overall increases the power of your agent till they reach pretty much god mode. You can run, jump, smash, shoot, or blow up your enemies in spectacular fashion. You can choose different hero to help boost certain stats as well as to drop some choice one liners like Jaxon's "F*ck Gravity!" line that pops up occasionally when I am jumping across the city.

The story line is very similar to the first one in terms of the core set up. Beat the underlings to take on the big baddie. To do so you have to destroy certain hot points in the city that belong to different factions and unlock a different boss. The villains are over the top, egocentric, mad men who want nothing more than world domination. As is per usual. Each boss has been challenging enough for the point I was at in the game that I did have to actually focus on what I was doing and make an effort more than just random punching shooting, and exploding. This is easily the weakest point in the game however, and the game seems to be abundantly aware of this as it never takes itself to seriously in its story telling. The story isn't overly complex as it is honestly just a basic backdrop to explain why you are doing what you are doing. The real meat and potatoes of this game is the random things to do, taking back hot points and fighting enemies in new ways. As well as hitting up all the random side activities around the map like, street races, collectibles and propaganda towers. Each of these is its own mini game and as the game proceeds on they get harder. This can eventually get old however as there isn't much added flavor to the tasks as you go on and it becomes a lot of the same. With that said this game will provide 10-20 hours of solid fun, but the real question is: Is this game worth $60?

The unfortunate answer is, no it isn't. I think this game is a hoot, I also have game pass and didn't actually pay for it. I honestly still would have paid for it as I played the first two, loved them and have been waiting for this for a long time. I don't think the purchase would have made me happy though. The game is very fun and overall enjoyably however the content is just too shallow and turns into a repeat grind of the same general task just made a bit harder. If you have game pass it is well worth the time to have some fun in New Providence, which is why I am giving this a 7/10, unfortunately though I don't think the game can stand up to a full purchase price, wait for sale.

This was my first experience with the Crackdown series.

Extremely disappointing lack of story, starts off with a nonsense cut scene that I assume was related to last game then really zero story or character development for the entire game and then it ends with another zero effort nonsense cut scene, the complete lack of story really make me wonder why this game took so long to come out.

It looks and plays well, shooting was good, guns were fun, arial maneuvering was good.

No destruction physics that was promised.

I don't usually notice audio in a game, it was extremely noticable in this game how badly the audio was mixed, I could barely make out any of the few bits of spoken dialog in the game and there was always a strong background bass thumping no matter what I did with the sound settings.

Game froze on me 4 times in the 8-9 hours I played, twice I had to restart the console, the other two times it sorted itself out after 4-5 seconds.

Not that Agents of Mayhem was a good game, but it's almost the exact same game but much much better.

And when I say "rad," I mean it in the most ironically cool, 80s actionesque, explosiony way possible. No, this game doesn't have a particularly deep story or likable characters (Terry Crews actually seems to have been drained of some of his natural charisma in addition to his muscles), but it does have a uniquely stupid and entertaining open world to explore and destroy.

We can't recommend Crackdown 3 in good faith. It has its moments, but you need to be a fan of uncomplicated run'n'gun gameplay to enjoy them – and even then, the action takes way too long to pick up. [Issue#236, p.42]

After such a glacial wait, it's not unreasonable to expect more. Still, in spite of its pared-back ambitions, it is such a chorus line of brainless, sugar rush thrills, you'll rarely be anything less than entertained. Let's just hope we don't have to wait until 2024 for Crackdown 4 to arrive. [Issue#225, p.65]
