    AWE is an expansion for Control and not a new Alan Wake game. What I mean by this? Well, whoever is looking for a continuation or clear answers to the writer's game, will be disappointed. It does deal with his story in a certain way and may leave some interesting facts to keep in mind for the future, but everything revolves around Jesse and his mission. It is almost the most relevant that can be taken out of this expansion, new mechanics with the use of light, and quite fun levels in which to kill Hartman.

    On the whole the AWE on Xbox One just seems lackluster and doesn’t wrap up Control as nicely as I was hoping it would.

    Short and shallow but pure fan service that fans would love fusing Control and Alan Wake's universes. You'll want more of almost everything and that's good if you (like us) were waiting for something huge.

    Teased in the base game through several documents, Alan Wake plays a central role in AWE. Unfortunately, beyond the act of diving back into the world of Bright Falls and the pleasure of reuniting with an old friend, this content highlights a certain looseness of Remedy. Less inventive than The Foundation, too busy sprinkling the fan service adventure from start to finish, to the point of neglecting most other aspects of the game, AWE is proving to be disappointing in many ways.

    Il s’agit du second DLC pour Control qui propose ici d’explorer (et nettoyer) un nouveau secteur : le bureau des enquêtes qui s’occupe des «Il s’agit du second DLC pour Control qui propose ici d’explorer (et nettoyer) un nouveau secteur : le bureau des enquêtes qui s’occupe des « AWE » (Altered World Events)… De façon tirée par les cheveux (c’est peu de le dire), le DLC fait le lien avec les évènements d’un certain écrivain… mais franchement, ça reste anedoctique.

    Bien que l’environnement soit dans la droite ligne du jeu principal (toujours étrangement fascinant), une nouvelle mécanique de jeu fait son apparition, tout droit héritée d’un certain… Alan Wake ! beaucoup d’obscurité à contrecarrer donc, tandis qu’on court après un vilain pas beau dans tout le niveau…

    Dans AWE, baucoup moins d’ennemis, ce qui rend ce nouveau secteur sensiblement plus calme… mais les confrontations répétées avec le vilain pas beau impliquent de se faire chier à remettre le courant et/ou allumer des lumières dans des endroits très sombres et confus… sans qu’on se figure vraiment la procédure à suivre, alors on navigue à vue…

    C’est assez pénible, d’autant que les mêmes situations se répètent… un peu trop ! Bien sûr, les réglages d’accessibilité (depuis la màj d’août 2020) permettent de lisser à sa guise la difficulté mais tout de même. L’ambiance reste évidemment très « controlienne » (c’est-à-dire particulièrement bizarre…) et forcément fascinante mais par ailleurs, les quelques missions secondaires proposées s’avèrent un peu trop… absconses. Tout cela est donc intéressant mais moyen, finalement !    … Full Review »

This DLC is an enjoyable few hours back in the world of the Bureau, but more importantly a great first step into Remedy’s Connected Universe that ties Alan Wake into Control in a wonderful way.

    There is plenty to figure out in AWE and it’s safe to say that the future of the Remedy Connected Universe looks bright.

    This review contains spoilers, click full review link to view. Control was my Game of the Year in 2019, and it’s probably one of my favourite games of all time. Alan Wake on the other hand is in my pile of shame several times over. It’s on Game Pass, was a part of Humble Bundle and was even given out free on the Epic Games Store. I really have no excuse not to have played it, and after completing Control’s AWE DLC it’s next on my list.

    Before I get into what I love about AWE I want to cover the one thing that I kind of don’t, and that’s the difficulty. Coming back to Control after 3-4 months or so I found that the latest piece of DLC didn’t have the level of difficulty that I remembered the base game, and to a lesser degree The Foundation having.

    This isn’t entirely a bad thing though, as there were several times through the main stories campaign where I found myself frustrated beyond belief by a particular group of enemies. I feel what this does is point out a flaw of Control as a whole, the lack of a difficulty setting. I think we’ve all been there, where sometimes we just want an easier path through to enjoy the story and sometimes we want a bit of extra challenge.

    Difficulty aside, AWE is the perfect Control Expansion. Much like The Foundation before it, AWE was exactly what I wanted. More Control. Every time I come back to Control I am amazed by its truly excellent combat and the beautiful world that Remedy have created.

    The new Investigations Sector is where the vast majority of Control’s final DLC takes place, and having been abandoned for years at this point, felt deserted yet lively at the same time. I found myself wanting to explore every nook and cranny, just like the sectors that came before it. It’s the perfect final environment, fitting into the Oldest House like the last piece of a puzzle.

    Expansion 2 also has a new enemy type, the Airborne Ranger, along with a new service weapon form, Surge. Surge is a Plasma Grenade Launcher with remote detonation. If you’ve ever played the Arkham games, try to imagine if you could use Batman’s Explosive Gel from a distance and that’s pretty much what you have here.

    Aside from all that, the DLC also adds in a set of Arcade Machines. These machines allow players to reply Boss Fights, tackle and all new Horde Mode and test their skills with Time Trials. Given that the Story of AWE will take around 6 hours alone, there’s plenty of content here for those that want it.
