Comparisons will no doubt be drawn to Overcooked, but to simply judge Catastronauts based on that alone would be somewhat of a disservice. High praise goes to the developer for their clever level design, and in particular, for how well the game’s diverse mechanics come together to produce such an engaging co-op experience. Short it may indeed be, but even so, Catastronauts is massively entertaining.

The presentation side of the game ticked a lot of boxes for me because both the visuals and sound design make the gameplay even more fun. TheThe presentation side of the game ticked a lot of boxes for me because both the visuals and sound design make the gameplay even more fun. The game is fun when played on your own the game truly shines when played in co-op and to say you have fun in co-op would be a massive understatement.
I really enjoyed how simple the gameplay was and the simple controls mean gamers of all ages can enjoy what this game has to offer. There is a decent amount of depth to the gameplay thanks to the interesting mechanics that are added every now and then. Each level was really fun to play and I think that’s mainly down to the amount of variety each level possessed. Technically the game suffered with a few issues at times and whilst none of them were game-breaking they did still cause me to be frustrated a little. Picking up items can be a little awkward at times and this does end up getting on your nerves especially on later levels. Catastronauts definitely has a likeness to that of Overcooked and I quite like that because Overcooked is a very enjoyable co-op game to say the least. Thankfully I’m pleased to say that Catastronauts is also very enjoyable and whilst it’s similar to Overcooked it’s definitely not a carbon copy. Instead it’s a game that has its own unique mechanics in play and when all these mechanics combine together it definitely gives the game quite a bit of depth. This depth doesn’t mean the game is complicated to understand though and you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how easy it is to pick up and play. This for me makes the game more fun because you don’t get bogged down in little details which means you can enjoy this game both on your own and with friends. I will say though that I think the game is best enjoyed with friends because it does make the gameplay more chaotic and fun. In terms of problems the game doesn’t have too many and the only real frustration I had was the technical issues it suffered with every now and then. This however doesn’t stop me from giving Catastronauts a solid thumbs up because the game just serves up fun and enjoyable moments time and time again.
