Taking things for what they are, the whole Caretaker experience on Xbox One isn’t a terrible one, but it isn’t an awfully fun one either. Instead, it's a solid walking and hiding horror game at its most basic level.

Caretaker certainly has potential, and it’s clear that the developer understands the horror genre. But there’s a lot missing here. With unsatisfactory investigation and a frustratingly generic villain at its core, Caretaker raises more questions than it answers. [Issue#186, p.88]

You heard the news of one caretaker in this industrialCaretaker you’re an investigative journalist who is hungry for a flashy news story. You heard the news of one caretaker in this industrial facility who has gone insane and killed their co-workers. Now, the urban legend is that the caretaker has returned to this industrial facility and people has seen this person of interest around. You want to uncover this myth. You are out to find the truth and quite possibly this caretaker is hungry for something else. The visual variety of Caretaker chapters are closely linked with the narrative arch of the game. The environments will reflect the dangerously insane mind of a caretaker. As you travel to the lower basements, which acts like a metaphor of going into the mind, the environments will reflect the level of insane mind of the caretaker. Since we are an investigative journalist, every piece of clue we find regarding the background story will be more rewarding and will also help to solve basic puzzle in order to progress. The more the player explore the environments, the more he/she will experience the psychosis of this criminally insane mind of the caretaker and therefore the player will form some sort of metaphysical connection with this evil thus seeing and experiencing whole different plethora of hallucinations. All of this narrative experience will not be told via cut-scenes or voice-overs, rather throughout carefully placed environmental clues, for the player to uncover and explore. They deliberately omitted using cut-scenes and voice-overs in order to create more horrific experience in the end. The AI is simply brutal, so without saying too much, if you sense or hear anything dangerous, just run away and hide. Try not to get caught while investigating the mind of this evil persona. Fair price of admission and if you're into suspense / horror games this just may be your ticket. Expand
