With seven games of varying quality, Capcom Beat 'Em Up Bundle is an intriguing package. While the online play may be shoddy, and the lack of extras is disappointing, the overall quality of the set can't be discounted.

While I am a fan of retro collections, this one is rather disappointing. The games itself are chosen well, but they also show with little to none mechanical progress over the years, why this genre is more or less extinct. And there is hardly enough bonus material to keep you happy, either.

While this it isn’t the best collection of game’s ever there’s still some classic titles here that will no doubt satisfy a number of people. IWhile this it isn’t the best collection of game’s ever there’s still some classic titles here that will no doubt satisfy a number of people. I was very surprised to see that you could play the collection of game’s online and thankfully the online holds up really well which means the collection has replayability.
The presentation side of the game is as retro as it could get and both the visuals and sound design bring back a lot of fond memories. Technically each game holds up really well throughout and the controls remain responsive at all times as well, which is great. Some of the game’s included in the collection aren’t bonified classics and there could’ve been better inclusions. While there is a decent amount of content available it still would’ve been nice to have had more options and classic information available. Once completed you’re highly unlikely to return back to the game’s in the collection because each game basically plays out the same way. The Capcom Beat ‘Em Up Bundle came out of the blue, but even though I had no prior knowledge of this collection I was still excited because Capcom has a lot of classic game’s in this genre. Thankfully there is a decent collection of game’s here for you to get to grips with and whilst it isn’t the best collection of all time with some noticeable absentees I still had a blast playing each game. The collection also threw up a few surprises as well and the best surprise was being able to play each game online. Without a doubt this online component does give the game some replaybility and I’m pleased to say that the online mode holds up well. In fact technically each game holds up really well and I was very impressed with the controls that have been implemented because they remain tight and responsive throughout each game. This then means that the Capcom Beat ‘Em Up Bundle gets a decent recommendation from me because it brings back a lot of fond memories and whilst it would’ve been nice to see a few more options and in some ways more recognised game’s you still end up getting very good value for your money.

The package includes online play, artwork from each game and the Japanese versions. You can adjust difficulty levels, enable borders, change ratio sizes and add scanlines. Each title is plenty of fun, especially with co-op partners. I would rate this with a 7.6 out of 10. Full Review »
