When it comes to puzzle adventures it’s actually a genre that I’m particularly very fond of but I must admit that some of these game’s can lack in terms of variety leading to them becoming a little tedious every now and then. Thankfully though that isn’t the case when it comes to Candle: The Power of the Flame and instead you get a game that feels alive in all areas which of course means it stays exciting and interesting throughout your time with the game. A big part of why the game remains this way is down to the fantastic story that’s present. I will admit to you now that I wasn’t expecting much from the story so as you can imagine I was very surprised by how much depth it had and how interesting it was. I was also pleasantly surprised by the gameplay as well because in terms of variety the gameplay has quite a lot. I especially found this variety to be present in the game’s puzzles and this variety meant each puzzle was fun to complete. This is very important in my opinion because in terms of the game’s difficulty it can be quite frustrating from time to time so even more frustration would’ve harmed the game’s fun factor quite a bit, but thankfully that doesn’t happen so the frustration levels never end up getting too high. This means then you end up enjoying the game the whole way through and that’s a good thing because in terms of content the game has a decent amount to it and without a doubt you definitely get good value for your money. Technically the content in the game doesn’t feature any serious problems and that’s very impressive considering the game has a few different mechanics in play at the same time. Each different mechanic feels as important as the other and when they all combine together it definitely gives the game a unique edge to it whilst also giving the game some charm as well. In fact the different mechanics gave the game that much charm that I was prepared to forget about the sometimes awkward and sluggish movement of my character when involved in the platforming elements. Without a doubt my favourite thing about Candle: The Power of the Flame was its presentation. I’m not exaggerating when I say that for me everything about the presentation side of the game was perfection and when the glorious visuals and excellent sound design combine together they end up creating an experience that’s very memorable to say the least. At the end of the day I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Candle: The Power of the Flame and I know quite a lot of people will enjoy it just as much as I did. As it stands at the moment this game is one of the most enjoyable I’ve played so far this year and in the end it definitely gets a big thumbs up from me. Expand

Candle: The Power of the Flame is a beautiful game with a charming and emotionally resonant story. That may not be enough for players who don’t want to spend a good deal of time on challenging puzzles and helplessly wandering the play area for a long time, searching every nook and cranny. The overall design is good most of the time, but at times when it doesn’t translate to the player, it quickly crosses into frustration.

Despite the couple of hiccups, Candle: The Power of the Flame is well worth the time to play, and personally, I don't feel that I wasted my time. At the end of the day, it's a fantastic, beautifully painted and well thought out piece of art that I would recommend to anyone. Buy this, sit down and prepare to have a good time, because this flame isn't going out anytime soon!

A beautifully drawn adventure told by an extremely talented voice actor that suffers a little from its own style.
