This is Treyarch's masterwork and probably the best title in the series so far: with two campaigns comprising a deep and surprising story, 4 players co-op including local split-screen, the biggest Zombie map so far, extra modes and a rich and solid multiplayer, Black Ops III offers tons of content and hardly anything to complain about.

From its four-player co-op campaign to the brand-new powers and a fleshed-out Zombies mode, Black Ops 3 meaningfully pushes the Call of Duty series forward on several fronts. Even where it doesn't innovate, it still meets the high bar Call of Duty fans should expect.

The new Zombies mode is the most interesting offering, which places up to four players in a co-op survival experience against a legion of zombies and other nasties in a wave-based trek through a fictional film-noir city. With smooth jazz tones and a unlockable city full of secrets, your cast of characters with checkered pasts come together to try to escape the nightmare by acquiring new guns and gumball-fueled powers as they use currency to unlock new areas of the city and buy new weapons.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 does what you'd expect, and the new four-player co-op does not really add anything to that. But, there still has been progress in the franchise, thanks to a bizarre and intriguing single-player story that will haunt us for weeks.
  5. 80
Call of Duty: Black Ops III manages to miss the mark with the narrative in the campaign, despite what looks to be genuinely good intentions, but the tight gunplay mixed with cooperative options and customisations still made the experience fun, if somewhat shallow despite the solid campaign length.

The nine hour long story of Black Ops 3 is so bizarre, it took us a while to get our heads around it. But the fact that a CoD-game surprised us in 2015 is very positive. The gameplay however, is still solid as a rock.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III is just okay, but being just okay isn't enough to keep players entertained when there are so many better offerings available from the same series.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. (Mainly based off zombies because I play it 99% of the time) good solid game and multiplayer is good, in zombies you have shadows of evil where when the easter egg is done rictofen from origins takes the summoning key and kills the version of him from world at war to black ops 2 before origins, in the giant which is a remake of der reis from world at war, then rictofen and his friends dempsey, takeo and nikolai go to dlc #1 (just saving words by saying dlc and whatever number it is) kill old dempsey, after that dlc #2 where old takeo kills himself after finding out the Japanese empires emperor sent him to there, then dlc#3 where you kill old nikolai, after that the ending of bo3 dlc#4 where you kill the shadow man then dr monty sends you to origins again then starts a cycle that gets broken in bo4, then they did dlc#5 zombie chronicles that re made maps like nacht der toten, verruckt, shino numa, shang ri la and origins. This'll be the last Call of Duty I buy. I'll still have fond memories of the WWII days and the magnum opus that was the Modern WarfareThis'll be the last Call of Duty I buy. I'll still have fond memories of the WWII days and the magnum opus that was the Modern Warfare Trilogy. But Black Ops III has learned all the wrong lessons from CoD Ghosts and Black Ops. The CoD series is at its best when it builds the world and sets the scene with patience and discipline. In MW1 you sneak through the forest and crest the hill just to see the nukes launch, headed for the U.S. and suddenly the race is on. In MW2 you trudge through the sewers of a gulag and breach the walls to come head to head with your old friend Capt Price.

BO3 has none of that nuance, and Activision has convinced itself that what the game needs is more bad guys and bigger spectacles. Between hordes of stupid AI enemies, drones, and bionic spells, it's impossible to figure out what BO3 is going for. In the original CoD you fought off Nazis from the back of a truck with a 0.50 cal, in BO3 you fight off advanced assault mechs from...the back of a truck, with a 0.50 cal. The plot is convoluted and the multiplayer is Titanfall lite.

Modern Warfare embodied the spirit of its villain Makarov, who uttered "It doesn't take the most powerful nations on Earth to create the next global conflict. Just the will of a single man." as the game pitted you as a rifleman in the midst of vast chaos. BO3 on the other hand, thinks that the will of a single man is nowhere near enough, and instead requires a vast arsenal of useless gizmos and gadgets to get anything done. The result is a bloated mess that gets in the way of a series that once had such great storytelling.

Like every Call ofI gave this a 4 because the only thing I really enjoyed about this was the zombies. Other than that this game was crap. Like every Call of Duty now of days, it is a re-skin of the old ones. The story is the same as Advanced Warfare. The multiplayer is like years before. And the exo suits THE EXO SUITS. They basically ruined the game for me. If they took these out then I would give this game a higher rating. Expand

Complete honest review. Read before purchasing.

"Fine" but extremely disappointing. The campaign leaves a lot to be desired, but we all know we haven't had a good Call of Duty Campaign since Modern Warfare 1 and 2.

Let's go ahead and jump right to what everyone wants to know. Online multi-player. How is it?

Imagine taking League of Legends, Titanfall, and Advanced Warfare, and throwing them all together. That's what this is? They introduce what's called "Specialists" and you have to choose one of them, then you choose your class. At the loading screen it shows you all the specialists of your team and the other team, sort of like the heroes/champions from league of legends. Each specialist has one special ability that is usable 2-4 times throughout a match, based on time and how well you're doing with kills/scoring. Much like a titan. Things like, gravity daggers, exploding crossbow, burst of energy, grenade launcher. Etc.

At the end of every round the "Winners Circle" is shown, showing the top 3 players from the winning team, and the number one player has unlockable "taunts" where they say something super lame like "One shot, one kill. They never saw it coming." or "Go back to bootcamp!" and it is just an extra annoying tid-bit that wastes more time before getting back to the lobby for the next round. Not to mention it agitates me more that I have to listen to some stupid taunt from the guy who kicked my trash.

Then there's my personal least favorite part of all. Boosters. Yes. You've got boosters. They're not exo-suit kind of things they just... are. Human enhancement etc. But you have a very limited jetpack boost (extremely similar height as a double jump in advanced warfare) and then you have a sliding boost to propel you forward in a prone position. These are the two most effective ways for evading enemies. And it's really. really. annoying. You have someone in your sights and start shooting and all the sudden they propel themselves 20 feet forward on the ground. Imagine dolphin diving in black ops 1 with rocket boosters on your feet. Or they take off through the air and shoot you down. All-in-all I think this is the absolute worst addition (as I thought the exo-suits were in Advanced Warfare) in this game. HOWEVER there isn't a crazy motion blur effect on all edges of the screen as there was in Advanced Warfare so that's a welcome improvement.

While the boosters are limited, it's not too bad as your feet stay on the ground quite a bit, but the boosters refill quite quickly, so you have plenty of juice to jump around, slide around, and all around go wherever you want. Except... not everywhere you want. You still can only go where you could normally go on your feet, or.. sortof. For instance, if there's a rock formation with a few trees on top creating two paths, you can't boost over the rock and get to the other side of the path, even though your character is clearly high enough.. just some invisible wall stops you.

The launch day has not been without it's bugs. Several times I've been searching for a game and it just stops searching. Completely. Nothing's happening. It's just sitting there. NOT searching. I have to back out and search again to find something. (Yes my NAT type is Open) Drops in games. Glitching (not the ability by the specialist called glitching, but actual glitching) of getting stuck on a wall etc. And talking about the pre-order bonus mixup Activision has found themselves in is a whole other story.

Long-story-short. My copy will be going on Ebay tomorrow for some 12 year old kids mom to buy him at the same price I bought it for, while maybe I'll pick it up in a couple months for quite a bit cheaper. This advanced warfare 2 is not at all what I wanted in the next Call of Duty game, and while the game is "Fine" overall, it certainly isn't "Good" or by any means "Great" I think Black ops 2 was GREAT, as well as the first two modern warfares, and I thought black ops 1 was decent, and Advanced Warfare was rubbish. Of course the sales will be through the roof and Activision and Treyarch will consider this game a complete success, but me, as well as I assume many other players out there like me, long for the days of Call of Duty 2, 4, MW2, and Black Ops 2. Call of Duty needs to keep our feet on the ground, moving at a normal pace. No boosters, no exo-suits, no sliding, flying, or wall-running.

If you're a die-hard Call of Duty fan you'll most likely have a "fine" time maybe even a "good" time but this won't keep you and your friends up for hours playing into wee-hours of the morning watching kill-cams and having a blast. You'll move on to something else soon.

They actually made new weapons, and put them, guess where, in supply drops. The drop rates for these weapons are .8 percent. That's ridiculous. No, Im not some angry 12 year old writing this in the heat of the moment after I threw 200 dollars at the supply drops and got **** I have several of the weapons, but the fact is that many, many people have thrown away their money at Treyarchs gambling loophole.
