At its core, Bucket Knight on Xbox One is a short but sweet homage to the classic run-and-gun platformer. It’s a game that wholly succeeds at providing players with a laid-back experience that never outstays its welcome.

Bucket Knight gives a unique glimpse into gaming of the past without any fancy modern upgrades like save points, perfect graphics and achievements that can only be completed by playing in sometimes seemingly senseless ways! Once again, it is not a game that will appeal to everyone and it’s definitely not for those who dislike this genre, but for anyone who appreciates a bit of nostalgic gaming it certainly seems worth giving it a shot.

Goblins and Skellies with Guns, and a lactose intolerant knight with a bucket for a helmet. There seems to be no story or even text for that matter. The game is spent hopping from platform to platform collecting gold to... score? Well there is one use for the gold, in your pause menu, that doesn't pause the action in the game, you can purchase new weapons that have different shot patterns, and best I can tell, ammo, as after you shoot so much you revert to the starting shots. the levels don't seem extremely well thought out, and some of the jumps are near impossible. There is what seems to be a tutorial as the first "stage" but it's a lot of fast-moving pictures that don't make any sense, and learning everything is trial and error. You will die a lot, and the only punishment is restarting the level. This is a great Skill platformer for people new to the concept, but for skilled players, Bucket Knight leaves a lot to be desired. Almost every enemy is the same routine, jump their bullet, fire back, rinse repeat. Bats and Slimes just move back and forth in a straight path, and most can be easily avoided or killed. The game's best feature is it crams achievements at you like candy. Although the barrage of Monty Python references took away from the impact of the humor as there was a stream of them back to back in the achievements. Not a bad game per se, but not a great one either. Bucket Knight left me wanting but was just engaging enough to keep me playing it. Expand
