I still however love a good Shmup and thankfully Boss 101 makes me realise why I love games like this so much. In a way Boss 101 feels fresh and this makes the game stand out quite considerably, which is very impressive in a genre like this because by now you would’ve thought that you’d have seen everything this particular genre has to offer. One thing that really makes this game stand out is the amount of freedom it allows you to have in terms of customization. You can literally chop and change everything to your heart’s desire and this keeps things fresh and interesting for longer. This isn’t a problem either because in terms of content the game has more than enough for you to get to grips with and the best thing is that the content has an abundance of variety. There is literally variety in all areas and this keeps things from going stale and at the same time keeps things fun and enjoyable throughout. The bosses and enemies you face is where you will see the most variety. Each boss and enemy plays differently from the other and when you take into account that there’s hundreds and hundreds of different enemies for you to face you end up realising that fighting them never seems to get boring, which is great. I would however have liked to have seen a little more work done on the weapons you can use in the game because a lot of them feel the same and a lot of them feel a little bit underpowered as well. This isn’t a major problem though because you tend to forget about this thanks to the game’s fantastic level design. Each level has an abundance of creativity and this is very impressive because there are quite a lot of levels to work your way through. Whilst the story can be fun at times most of the time it left me a little uninterested and I think that’s mainly because they try and shove too much humour down your throat, which in the end makes the humour a little diluted and ultimately not funny. Without a doubt one of my most favourite things about the game was the presentation side of things. Visually the game has quite a lot of detail and the pixelated art style works incredibly well when it comes to the gameplay. At the end of the day as far as Shmup’s go Boss 101 is definitely in the higher echelons of the genre, and fans of games like these will thoroughly enjoy their time with the game. In fact I enjoyed the game that much that I would recommend it to people who aren’t big fans of Shmup’s, which shows just how good the game is.… Expand
