In Borderlands: Game Of The Year Edition the visual and the sound design have seen quite a few improvements that make it more immersive than the first time around, and if it's your 1st time, it's a good time to start with all in the series now remastered on the Xbox One and Borderlands 3 on the horizon in 5 months. Borderlands came out a decade ago, I remember thinking that was unrivaled and this captured the hordes of people especially in co-op play with the franchise immediately. Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition releasing on the Xbox One had me pleased as I often wondered where the last remaster has been hiding all this time for us. There is also more content and new weapons in they GOTY edition. Technically the game also delivers in all areas it previously did including the fantastic humor in the game. My only request would have been additional enemies added in the new content as well. This GOTY edition of the original, is truly a must buy for newcomers and veterans of the original masterpiece. Two massive thumbs up... Expand

Jumped back in after not playing for 8 years (never finished the game). It plays great and being 60 FPS makes a big difference. The game has aged well and the new mini-map works great. 4K resolution is nice, but not too noticeable with cel-shaded graphics. Just one tip, don't try facing enemies at a higher level than you (you will die a lot).

Overall this game is a ton of fun and for that I am giving it an 8/10. Yes, it has its flaws, but what game from 2009 doesn't? Yes, the missions are still the same and the formula remains the same, but Gearbox made improvements for a better game. Borderlands, the original looter shooter, has aged pretty decently. It has a lot of positives from the looting, enemy design, and the gunplay. The characters and abilities you are able to use are relatively simple but satisfying and all have different styles. This, along with the multiple playthroughs really helps with replayability. That being said there were some aspects that didn't age well. The level design can be very confusing to navigate and not that interesting with a focus on drab, boring desert areas or trashpiles that make it difficult to navigate and fails to give unqiue feelings to a good majority of the levels. A lot of the side quests feel like padding as well that don't offer anything interesting, with some being so simple you can basically walk over, press a button without fighting, and leave. Along with that, going through multiples times of a game to get a maxed character can be frustrating for completionists, and the skill trees of characters don't really let you create a unique playstyle within or any alternative playstyles. The DLC helped boosting this rating up by one, with Zed's being my favorite. I didn't love the General Knoxx DLC because of the driving, but I liked the other aspects and especially the story stuff. The Claptrap one was really good too, and I think all around it is a solid attempt. I didn't do Moxxi's but it is just enemy wave fighting, but it is good because it has the bank to store items which is extremely helpful. Definitely boosted this game up. Still, a very fun game that I would recommend to people before they jump into Borderlands 2. Expand

Very nice remaster with many additions from Borderlands 2 and a nice 4K 60fps on Series X. A must play in co-op mode for me, it'd be too flat of a game in solo. The story of the main game is quite expeditive and it lacks a bit of dialog, nice way to discover the series debuts though.

Enjoyable time killer in co-op. In single-player it's still fun, but eventually can become tedious.

My favourite game, not that I am much of a gamer. I have completed two playthroughs as Mordecai and all of the downloadable content. I just haven't been able to defeat Crawmerax the Invincible. I would recommend this game to everyone, young and old alike, and definitely play the DLC if you can, it really expands on the original game and adds great diversity and extra chances to level up quickly. I have only played as Mordecai the Hunter as I love using the sniper rifles, and his pistol play is really fun too. And Mordecai's pet Bloodwing is a real killer when you upgrade. I like the way you can play-through twice, and after maxing out your experience and levelling up it can be fun just treasure hunting for the best gear. TOP GAME, I highly recommend it. You won't be disappointed. Expand

Although it is somewhat outdated with regard to some elements, Borderlands Game of the year edition is still proof that some things were better in the past. Local four player mode is something we miss enormously in today's games. But best of all is that the update is free for PC players.

If you are playing on an original Xbox One, and haven’t played it before, then Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition is without a doubt, a five star game. If you’re on an X, or have played it before, it’s not. There’s a great deal of fun here, even for returning players, but it’s hard to recommend this over the Backward Compatible version.
