Blazing Chrome is the breakout release which JoyMasher needed to get noticed.

Blazing Chrome is quite possibly the best Contra-like game ever made. The weapons are meaningful, the levels are varied, and there's always something unexpected around the corner. While the difficulty curve takes some getting used to, beating a mission is its own reward.

It pretty much perfects the run ‘n’ gun formula, only it doesn’t really offer anything new while doing so. That shouldn’t, and won’t, be a problem for the many clambering for the return of the action-packed genre though. And who knows, developer Joymasher might throw in some surprises if Blazing Chrome does well enough to get a sequel. And it really should do.

More than a homage to the good old days of arcade shooters, this is more a 2D shooter that come directly from the 90s to remember us what we're missing these days.

Blazing Chrome is a fantastic slice of retro run 'n' gun that deftly pays homage to a golden era of side-scrolling shooters. Badass.

Blazing Chrome tries to take the identity of Contra 3 and stops just short of getting Konamis lawyers involved. Nonetheless you might consider getting the Contra Anniversary Collection instead, which gives you more bang for your buck.

Blazing Chrome is a nice tribute to Metal Slug, Contra, or Super Turrican. It depicts a post-apocalyptic world in the way Terminator saw it 30 years ago, giving it a true retro feel. But it suffers from some minor issues.

It shares aspects of game play with a few of the greats, Contra and Metal Slug being the first to come to mind. The Sound is just as retro as the graphics. You feel the stage, and intensity, as the old school BGM ramps up. You're dropped into an Apocalyptic world where robots reign supreme, and given two characters to run the game with. There is a one hit kill system, that can be off-putting at first, but once you get the hang of game play, it becomes more of a nuisance than a problem. Once you've defeated the game, you're given 2 new characters to play, both Melee, changing the dynamic of the game entirely. The game isn't very long, with 4 stages you can play in any order, and a final stage afterwards, you can challenge in 3 difficulties giving you plenty of replay value. It also gives you Boss Rush and Mirror Mode, adding a bit more variety to your play. This game would have dominated it's genre had it come out along side of it's predecessors. If you enjoyed Contra, or Metal Slug, this game is a must, a great Arcade Shooter taken to the max! Full Review »

This retro throwback is already better than everything else that has come out this year. It's very faithful to old run and gun games like Contra. Blazing chromes neo geo/snes mix of graphics is beautiful. It's difficulty will make average gamer cry and that's awesome. It's fun to play something challenging for a change. Soundtrack is awesome and brings out cheesy 80's action movie vibes. Boss and sub boss battles are full of different mechanics.

Blazing chrome is awesome but it's not without flaws. There is a save game feature but it's a joke. It saves your game so that you can start at the begining of the level you last played. It should let you start from the last checkpoint. That would not make the game any less of a challenge, it would just make it less tedious. There's also 3 difficulty levels, hardcore being the toughest one. maybe this save feature would be good for that mode but it sure as hell isn't good for normal mode where you are just learning the game. Your caharacter also has a melee attack and you're gonna need it. It's powerful and a good situational tool. Too bad it won't come out when you need it. Who ever was the idiot who designed this feature.. well his an idiot! You have to tap the same button that you use to fire and it just won't work. You also have a dodge roll. That doesn't work either. The character jumps when you need to roll and vice versa. Jump doesn't activate fast enough in vehicle stages. These control issues make this game almost unplayable. There's too many cheap deaths in couple of missions and too much sh't to keep track of in the last mission. Here the retro graphics are a hinderance. Too much sh't on the screen and bang you're dead and don't known what hit you. A restart from checkpoint option would also be nice since if you die once or twice you are not gonna make it anyway. We live in 2019. I think we want to enjoy the retro feel with out the bullsh't that we had to endure back in the day. These are also core gameplay mechanics that are flawed so they are very.. oh boy.. very annoying!

With these big flaws, no matter how much I love this game, I can only give it 5/10 and I'm sorry to say but it's not worth the current price. If the developer patches these problems I will immediately change the score to 10/10 because It would be everything a video game should be. Fun, challenging, pretty to look at and created completely for it's fan base and not for other audiences.

The problem is that the difficulty is not even fair, and the curve is so quick that the 1° stage will be semi hard and the 2° suddenly will be insanely hard, long and unfair. This is hardest than any Contra game ever made, and that says a lot. From start to finish, your poor character will be oblitarated with no mercy. No matter how good you were in previous run n gun games, you will be destroyed until you learn every single enemy patter of the stage. The game will throw at you a huge ammount of fast enemies and many, many unavoidable bullets. Unless your reflexes are top notch, you will die a lot to the point that it will become too frustrating, and that's if you are a hardcore gamer, cause if you are a casual, say goodbye to your sanity or put it on easy. Despite the crazy difficulty, I found the art design to be just wonderful and the controls are responsive (almost all the time). The problem is that the game will give you no mercy and not even a health bar, so you will die with 1 single shot. There's no way to beat the 2° stage without loosing lives on normal without cheating. Oddly enough, the 3° stage is not even half as hard as the 2° one. Believe me, if you are not hardcore enough you will suffer a lot, unless you don't care about loosing lives (that would be what a casual does) but a hardcore gamer always care for every single life lost. I still love the game, this is what the hardcore gaming community needed, a fresh new Contra styled experience, I wish I could give this a 9/10, but the difficulty is way too high
