Beautiful game, mediocre leveling, way too many problems. It is a phenomenal $30 game. but it was priced as a Triple A game, so that’s how i am rating it. let’s start with the narrator. if you have to add a slider to lower the amount he talks, you already know you made him talk to much. there isn’t even dialogue. the narrator just says the general idea of what the person is saying.Beautiful game, mediocre leveling, way too many problems. My biggest problem however is visibility. A good 3/4 of the game i couldn’t see anything. the day cycle is so fast, i can’t go 5 minutes without it being nighttime. if i fast travel during the day, it’ll be night. if i fast travel at night, it’ll still be night. and don’t get me started on the hot/cold/biohazard/radioactive/apoxia bs. the different environmental hazards are always nice, but not when they make everything a single color, and everything becomes fog. it doesn’t matter how beautiful it is if i can’t see it. I've played my share of games that deserve a 0 to 3 rating. This game is definitely not one of them. People who are complaining about graphics went into this game expecting something looking like Elder Scrolls. This game was never meant to look like that. Its a comic book style art style akin to Borderlands. Others are complaining about the narrator. This I can understand because II've played my share of games that deserve a 0 to 3 rating. This game is definitely not one of them. People who are complaining about graphics went into this game expecting something looking like Elder Scrolls. This game was never meant to look like that. Its a comic book style art style akin to Borderlands. Others are complaining about the narrator. This I can understand because I didn't understand at first, until I realized it's basically telling the tale of a Kung Fu master who saves his world. This style of story telling isn't often used in games and people are used to fleshed out NPC characters. This game focuses on the main character and NONE of the NPCs though. I found the gameplay to be on par with all open world rpg's. That being said it does get repetitive. But this doesn't make the game less fun. I can't stress enough that people going into this game expecting a visual masterpiece instead of a comic or cartoony art style are the reason for 90 percent of the low reviews. The rest are people who don't understand the style. They weren't prepared for a narrative instead of normal ARPG. Expand

A really fun game to pass time .. from the character customization to the crafting system it’s almost limitless possibilities while crafting .. menus and perks and skills are very simplistic and easy to navigate Gameplay fast and fun .. overall I am really enjoying it .. others may feel differently to each their own .. biomutant does have some minor quirks with combat at times and some repetitive missions but over all it’s solid . I Have not encountered any game breaking bugs or any issues in my play through everything has been solid ,the characters that I’ve encountered are unique and you definitely won’t be forgetting any of them !, a lot of them are just tooo funny one guy even looked like he belongs in the 1950s with his leather coat and pompadour hair cut sounding like a ferret/beaver looking Elvis haha Expand

I played Biomutant with the narrator on and welcomed his Fable-esque commentary, but didn't admire the game's script. Heavy topics like anthropogenic climate change and technological hedonism are lost in a slurry of forgettable dialogue, fetch quests, and cheeky alliterations. At its best, minor philosophical smatterings and the use of whimsical words and names tease and tickle the brain. But overall, the story is uninspired and full of daft exchanges with underwhelming characters.

I found myself motivated to explore Biomutant by its gorgeous environments and emphasis on weapon crafting. The varying biomes scattered across the sprawling map certainly entice player exploration, but the game designers didn't do a very good job guiding players to gain access to tools that make exploration truly enjoyable. For instance, Biomutant has a Breath of the Wild like glider that greatly improves traversal in game, but first the player must unlock it by completing a somewhat elusive quest called "Mirage." The quest felt counterintuitive, and I couldn't understand why the designers decided to hide such a boon to exploration behind a randomly generated side quest. Furthermore, the items needed to enter hazard zones couldn't be more tedious to obtain. But hey, at least the mounts are cute motion modifiers.

Combat is a hodgepodge of familiar formulas used by action games like Devil May Cry, and the Batman series by Rocksteady Studios. It's certainly nothing to write home about, nevertheless fun enough to keep the player leveling up. Excluding mainline boss battles, enemies approach and attack the player in a similar fashion. If it wasn't for variations in the appearance of most enemies, ie shape size and range, combat would be more repetitive than it is already. The rules of engagement and quest lines provide gameplay loops that nostalgically resemble seventh generation game design. Also, puzzles in Biomutant offer little challenge or intrigue, and feel generally child friendly.

I purchased this game in support of a small development team. Unfortunately, after much anticipation, I feel like the game's a big nothing burger. Sure, it has protein, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, sauce, etc; but with each bite I'm left asking myself, "this is it?" Biomutant is a wonderful concept, but doesn't taste nearly as good as it looks. Perhaps a sequel with better ingredients can deliver the delightfully streamlined post-apocalyptic kung-fu RPG Experiment 101 had promised.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While the initial thrill of this beautiful game didn't last til the end, there is no denying it's got fun combat and tight, fluid controls that lend themselves to easy and fast sandbox exploration. The world itself is gorgeous and the furry monstrosities that populate it move naturally and aggressively. The upgrading and crafting is fully realized and very fun to get into. Feeling the dramatic improvements in your gear after investing in some upgrades is truly pleasurable. The thing about this game, though, is everything else. Structurally sound, but narratively lacking. At first, the narrative voice over of the story had a kind of Doublefine/Rare appeal that was charming. But as the main quests got completed, and the story progressed, I felt like this storytelling method kept me a few layers separated from the world and the characters within them. I never fully felt the urgency of the world dying, and it was made even more perplexing by the Ark at the end (SPOILER: Why are we leaving? Did I not save the world? Was the world going to end anyways? If so, then why did I just run around every corner of it saving the tree? What about the thousands of furry people down there with their homes and lives? It just didn't add up - saving the world for seemingly NO reason?? Did I get the bad ending? Do I care enough to go back and try to get a better one?). Also, the complaints in other reviews about too many game mechanics that never really get fleshed out are accurate. The last world-eater battle (SPOILER) takes place underwater (a realm you never get to touch again outside of this fight) with a new vehicle and everything. Would have been really cool to have access to underwater elsewhere in the world. The jet ski, the mech, and the hand (???) really have one purpose/mission each and then you don't have any reason or place to use them again. In theory this is disconcerting, but in the actual playing of the game it's just a passing strangeness. The complaints are true, but they didn't really ruin the experience for me. Just kind of perplexing. But the bottom line is that this is a well-made sandbox experience and if you're into that kind of thing, you could do a lot worse than Biomutant. It doesn't pull you in narratively or distinguish itself mechanically as well as other open-world action RPG's, but the bottom line is it's fun. Expand

Very fun and relaxing game, much better than the big reviews make out. Looks and runs amazing on my Xbox Series X. The only downside is the fact it only has about three voice actors and the narrator's voice soon gets boring as he voices nearly everyone, luckily you can reduce the amount of times he speaks.

Beschäftigt Euch mal mit Biomutant, nicht nur 10 Minuten. Klar, besser geht es wahrscheinlich, aber bei einem Entwicklerteam von 20 Leuten wurde meines Erachtens sauber abgeliefert. But unfortunately, not even a cute critter, adorable clothes or fun vehicles can save Biomutant from itself. The execution is lacking, the direction is flawed and the overall experience feels misguided. It's janky, broken, gets old fast, has barely any captivating story to engage you, combat doesn't work well at all and the damn narrator detracts from the whole game. Basic RPG elements like quests, builds, diaolgue, plot and progression just fail to work. It has its own charm at times and is a wonderful time-wasting experience that could have made for a creative new IP but in the end, fails at being cohesive in its design and execution. Less talking, more shooting.
Biomutant is a 9 and a half hour long open world rpg where you start out by creating your own character, balancing them how youd like for your play style, and going out into the world to save the tree of life. The best thing I can say about biomutant is that they tried.. does this look like a ps3 game?? Yes. Did it crash on me like 10 times

The best thing I can say about biomutant is that they tried.. does this look like a ps3 game?? Yes. Did it crash on me like 10 times including during and after an entire boss battle? Yes.. is it way too easy to accidentally sell your currently worn items to merchants so you kind of just ignore that aspect of the game? Yes. but they tried really hard to give you a content packed rpg, from weapon parts, to armour parts to find across this world.. tons and tons.. and tons and tons.. and tons and tons.. and tons and tons of dialog… however.. none of it comes together in an enjoyable way.
Biomutant is a great idea, choose a tribe, interact with the other tribes and either switch sides or try to bring them all together… theres even a balance of lightness and darkness depending on your actions.. but this affects nothing but the ending of the game and the abilitites youre able to unlock for combat..
Combat here is alright. .you have ranged weapons as well as the possibility to make really great close ranged melee weapons.. you can really go out into this world and craft some really great stuff as you set out to take down the 4 adorable world eaters… which are this games main bosses…
But the problem with biomutant is everything in between the good parts and theres way too much of it…
its like eating a sandwhich with a meter thick dry bread.. I would wager that nearly half of my 9 and a half hours was spent sitting through this games excruciating dialog… Biomutant never wants to shut up and just let you play its game.. anytime you get anywhere heres 10 minutes of hearing blabber while your brittish grasshopper translates for you… and its all always the same thing blah blah tree of life blah blah lightness darkness blah blah revenge forgive its all so unnecessary, boring, ad just pads out the game in such a bad way.. there is never any interesting dialog here.. theres no interesting story moments or cutscenes.. it all feels like a giant waste of my time.. I just want to get back into the world and take down the world eaters… along the way youll be doing other tasks to get to the world eaters.. these tasks are all basically the same, go to this building, do some switch flipping puzzles, and catch these creatures then go take down the world eater.. all while youll run into other mamals.. taking them on with your mutant abilities that you get to choose and of course your weapons you’ve been building up.. and while actually putting in the effort to craft the best items is enjoyable.. and collecting the items and materials for the best build possible.. the actual combat here is just not satisfying.. enemies are way too spongy.. so after sitting through mountains of dialog that thankfully are skippable.. you barley get to have any fun out in its world…
Biomutant was decently enjoyable.. but overall I was pretty let down by this boring slog of a world.
At least it has a great message.. stop polluting.
    I give Biomutant a 6.5/10

37 hours played, max level 50, 1000/1000 Gamerscore, everything done and the game is a 6, AT BEST. (The only achievement that took any effort were the 20 glittermoths.)

After finishing it last night, I went through my complete quest log and scribbled down the list of fetch and collection quests. It's not an exaggeration to say it's the bulk of the game. Easily 85% of it. I could live with that if such quests meaningfully expanded the world, but they don't. The vast majority of them just lead you to a tiresome rotation puzzle that gives you a piece of random loot you've probably seen a dozen times before. They had an opportunity to use the old world items like televisions, radios, computers, and movie projectors to help tell the story of this broken, apocalyptic world and, inexplicably, did nothing with them.

The combat was lackluster and felt detached throughout. Playing as a melee Sentinel class, I was disappointed to realize that guns always beat melee weapons no matter how much you invested in strength or how much you'd mod your melee weapons. Other than the few-and-far between armored enemies, every enemy could be easily dispatched with a rifle or auto rifle and kiting them around the combat area. Crafting was a bright spot early on but then I started finding "Ultimate Meleeweapons" and "Ultimate Rangedweapons" which outclassed anything I could craft by a LARGE margin. If they started losing power, all I had to do was swap a higher level addon and it was overpowered again. Playing on Hard difficulty, almost all enemies were pushovers with exception to the Worldeaters, who were only difficult by virtue of the fact that the player has to use a scripted method of defeating them rather than our normal combat skills. Bio and Psi skills do little to no meaningful damage, and only Shroom and Freeze are worth taking for minor mob crowd control. All weapons use the exact same combo button presses. Learn one, you've learned them all.

Most damning, I felt nothing for the world or my character because the game did little to make me care. It just throws you in with an hour of exposition dump and sends you on your way. It then showers you with endless collection side quests. The tribe war was boring as nearly every outpost and fortress played out the same way every time, without fail. Plus they did nothing to really distinguish the tribes beyond a blurb about whether they were light or dark aligned.

All in all, this feels like a game that would have been an 8 about a decade ago. With the evolution of open world games over the last generation, this now feels dated and utterly devoid of meaning. Strip out all the collection and fetch quest padding, and you have a game that is, AT MOST, 10 hours -- and that's assuming you don't skip the tribe war after conquering the second tribe (yes, the game will let you fast-foward *a main story arc* after only completing two of five conquests).

It's a $20 game at most. It is the worst kind of open world checkbox padding, the kind of game that would have been at home at the tail end of the Xbox 360/PS3 generation, not at the start of the XSX/PS5 one.

    -----------

And now, the collect-a-thon list for those curious:

Old World items that reward you with crafting mats or armor (5 of each type unless noted, all are rotation puzzles): Washing machines, telephone booths, house telephones, globes, record players (3), radios, guitars, pianos, computers, televisions, movie projectors, safes, arcade cabinets, toilets, microwaves.

Old World items that reward you with slight stat boosts to strength, vitality, or agility (3 of each type, all are QTEs): Treadmills, Dumbbells, Bench Press machines.

15 Old World Noticeboards that reward you with cosmetic automation skins.

Others: 4 sundials, 13 captives, 11 bandit outposts, 14 Old World storage shelters, 6 lumen shrines, 4 aura altars, and more I’m sure I’m forgetting.

Biomutant has been conceived to awaken great loves in the public, but it will not conquer everyone equally. His personal way of presenting himself and posing his gaming experience is a break from the more classic format and feels like an evolution of the old PS2 and Xbox games.
