    Like the team’s previous work, Never Alone, Beyond Blue shares informative content via a genuine love for its topic. I can easily imagine pre-teens picking this up and wanting to be marine biologists, in the same way that I wanted to become a skateboarder, or how one might want to be a paleontologist after walking out of Jurassic Park.

    I loved my time with Beyond Blue. It’s incredibly relaxing being able to swim through the ocean, and mesmerising to reach depths that many of us will never see in real life. From its interesting story, fantastic soundtrack and admirable inclusion of educational elements, Beyond Blue is an excellent title that a wide gamut of gamers will enjoy. It isn’t free of issues, but they don’t deter from the magic of diving into an unexplored underwater world.

    Beyond Blue might lack gameplay variety and an absorbing plot, but it balances it with a fascinating and realistic depiction of the underwater world, letting us explore and discover the sheer beauty of dolphins, whales and sperm whales.

    It’s hard to criticise Beyond Blue too much, for it comes to market with the express intention of highlighting the ocean’s magic, hammering home a different type of message to most other gaming experiences. As a game it could do better, but as a journey into what is the unknown for many, then it most certainly works.

    This wonderful experience is cut too short. There are only eights dive to perform, each taking only about half an hour or less even if you spend your time exploring outside the mission objectives. Beyond Blue can be easily played through in one session and there is little replay value if you already explored everything in your first go. Of course, the game is labeled as a single-player narrative experience, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s insanely short. I would have liked it to last at least twice its current running time as it’s such a beautiful and soothing experience with an important environmental message. Still, Beyond Blue is worth a try for those who respect life instead of taking it in video games. Who knows, the next time when browsing through a store for a game to buy, you may go for something more peaceful and tranquil than the latest first-person shooter!

    Beyond Blue is an overtly educational game that has a message worth sharing. The experience is pleasant enough, but other games manage to convey the majesty and beauty of the ocean more elegantly.

You play as Mirai, and explore the ocean with new technology to learn more about the creatures you find. The game also features live action videos you can watch when you return to your home base, which give more info about the things you’re seeing. There is a few different choices to be made throughout the game, and plenty of fish to scan and collect info about.

    This game is a bit like Abzu or Subnautica, but there is no danger or real goals other than just exploring and scanning critters. There is a few interactive cut scenes like playing with dolphins, but most of the time you are free to roam the waters.

    This game is perfect for kids interested in ocean life, and definitely something fun to do together. I believe the entire game is only a few hours long, and could certainly be a fun before bed activity with some younger children.

    The game itself is very well made, and I didn’t notice too many performance issues. Some underwater games can be a bit laggy or slow to load, but for the most part this game seemed to work wonderfully.

    My only real complaint with this game is a fairly small one, in that it does feel a little bit short and empty at times. The only real goal is to scan fish, and while I did enjoy doing so, I did start to find my attention wandering a bit.

    I still think this is a really lovely game, and I know there is people that would love it even more than me. The simplicity of it makes it more accessible to people that may not play as many games and are more interested in the learning aspect of it.

    Overall I really liked this experience of a game, and I found myself wowed by the animals in the water. It does a great job of immersing you in the world, and showing you something truly beautiful. My rating is 8/10.    … Expand

E-Line Media worked closely with BBC's Blue Planet II team and OceanX to bring you this realistic adventure. You play as a marine biologist, and diver as you head out into the ocean and document the life around you. The swimming is relaxing as you investigate the oceanic life and glide along the incredible environments. The ambient sounds are breathtaking, from the movement of the ocean to the calls of whales and dolphin chitters. Your job is to scan and catalogue the wildlife you come across. Later you get an enhanced scanner that allows you to scan more precise data and identify the life you're observing more closely, using scars and dorsal fins to identify individuals. Along your journey you'll have a chance to watch documentaries and interviews with scientists and activists who reflect on the things you've done during the game. You will board your sub between dives to analyze your findings and report them to base, as well as deal with a few other distractions. The game is beyond beautiful and invites you into an incredibly relaxing environment while teaching you about the the largest Biome on earth, the Ocean. Marine enthusiasts and those who enjoy a relaxing game should add this one to their library!… Expand
