    If you are sensitive to political correctness, easily triggered, uncomfortable with coarse language, or some political and racial overtones as was common at the time, you may want to give this one a miss. But for everyone else, give it a play, it’s actually really fun.

    Beat Cop, developed by Pizel Crow, is a fun adventure with plenty of 80s cliches that will make us smile many times.

    The overall goal for this game is to make you laugh and it is this which is apparent through every interaction and every character. It’s good at it too, as Beat Cop is genuinely funny. I don’t remember a recent game that has made me laugh as much as this has.

    Beat Cop serves well as a Police sim, although that aspect of the game grows stale as time goes on. The story can be janky and oddly paced at times, but overall tells a fascinating cop story with some neat revelations. The pixel art style fits the 80’s theme of Beat Cop and really nails the retro vibe that the devs are shooting for. Beat Cop works just as well on console as it did on PC, but there’s still some room to improve.

    Whilst its story is both welcoming and gripping, and its dialogue remains on point, Beat Cop fails to build where it truly matters. The core loop, although very serviceable, becomes tedious and repetitive before long, with little mechanical depth in place to keep things fresh. There’s certainly some fun to be had here, but it tends to be quite fleeting. In essence, it’s a generic management sim that, to its detriment, rarely ever attempts to innovate.

    The gameplay is easy to learn, but it doesn’t do much to keep gameplay new and exciting. Its unpalatable themes, even though clearly put there on purpose, could do with being toned down a few notches.

The story has awesome banter and is packed with humor and interesting as well complimented with multiple endings to each play through. There’s a good number of puzzles for you to solve and the variety within each one so completing them is quite rewarding. Getting use to the mechanics doesn’t take long as the tutorial gets you up to speed and all actions available are visible on screen to complete each task you need to accomplish. The number of duties you undertake can be a little overbearing at times they do ease you in gently at first and hey being a cop isn't easy. More variety in some of the missions would’ve been nice because the gameplay can feel somewhat a repetitive on some of the missions. Police style games are few and far between, so in its own way Beat Cop is unique and while the gameplay doesn’t have a ton of complexity to it, I still found myself very rarely getting bored. The story also helped keep boredom away because not only is it funny but it’s also interesting. The added bonus of multiple endings to the game’s story gives you a reason to return to a fresh play-through. If you’ve ever wanted to be a cop and write tickets, take bribes, or bust people with real life personal problems in the story effecting your decisions along the way, Beat Cop is perfect for you and in the end it was perfect for me because it never takes itself too seriously and offers you a fun adventure throughout your many plays of the games Thumbs up for sure, I'd think anyone who enjoys a throwback style with a good game behind it will agree.… Full Review »

    This is a funny game with loads of jokes that can make you laugh. Take it easy and try not to be too serious.
