YouBeach Buggy Racing 2: Island Adventure allows you to play through a full career, however you can also play tournaments or quick events. You can also race on your own or against friends locally. The career mode is the highlight of Beach Buggy Racing 2 for me. You’ll make your way around a map of the game’s island, competing events in order to progress. You’ll earn up to three stars on each event depending on your finish, and those stars will be used to unlock areas to allow you to move through the map. There’s a wide array of events to compete in and they’re mixed up somewhat. Most typically there’ll be a full variety of items to collect like boost and a-la-kart weapons, and some events have a smaller selection to ensure a particular type of kart battle is present. There are also time trials, firework fury events which are time trials with rockets added all over the track along with drift challenges. As you progress through the career you’ll also unlock upgrades for your vehicle. Upgrades aren’t tied to one vehicle and the improvements you unlock are available across your entire garage. So as you unlock upgrades to your speed, drift, armor etc, those upgrades apply to every vehicle so you don’t have to grind every one. You’ll start out with access to only a few vehicles to begin with you you’ll unlock more as you play with a total of forty in the game with each being surprisingly unique. There’s your typical beach buggy but monster trucks, moon rovers etc become available later on. The same goes for Beach Buggy Racing 2’s character roster as well. Only two will be available at the beginning, but by completing grand prix races in the career mode, you’ll unlock more and rack up a nice total of fourteen. Each character has their own power-up, so it’s worth playing with each of them to find one that you enjoy they most. Like any karting game, Beach Buggy Racing 2 lives and dies on its use of power-ups. It wouldn’t be the same without them, but just as in Mario Kart they will become frustrating at times. More and more power-ups enter the mix as you progress through the game. It’s quite easy to be completely barraged by multiple attacks, going from first place to last in a matter of seconds. Like with any kart game, your success in Beach Buggy Racing 2 often doesn’t feel down to skill and you will need some luck to come in first as well AI opponents can be too aggressive sometimes. Thankfully, you can adjust the game’s difficulty at any time if you’re struggling with this personally. Beach Buggy Racing 2 is a joy to control thankfully. Your vehicle is light and responsive and always feels in your control. Drifting around corners is easy to accomplish via the brake tap and zooming along the variety of colorful and stylish tracks is fun filled. Outside of the career mode, when jumping into a single event you can customize it to your liking, and choosing your own rules can lead to some rather entertaining results. You can decide what pick-ups will be available to none at all, along with the number of laps, the specified course and the amount of challengers. Beach Buggy Racing 2: Island Adventure can be a relentless kart game like any karting game, but as a fan of the original it’s fair to say this is quite the major upgrade and stands on its own four wheels. So if you are a fan of the genre, be sure to race on over to the Xbox digital games store and download it today - you won’t regret it; be sure to add the Hot Wheels add on as well for added enjoyment with a brand we all love.… Expand
