Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock is an awesome game – at least when played on the platform it was built for. On Xbox One though, with the limited controls available, it’s still an engaging strategy game, but it really struggles with the sheer complexity that is at hand.

Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock is a pleasant diversion from tactical games like Fire Emblem, especially with the addition of resource management. It’s also a bit lighter than your typical space-battle simulator since movement is simplified to be not-fully-three-space. It will play well with Galactica fans in this anniversary year, as well as gaming tacticians in general, but its advanced learning curve and higher-than-average price will make it a tougher sell to others. Still, if you fancy yourself an armchair Adama, using your spare cubits to buy Deadlock would be a decision worthy of the support of the Quorum of the Twelve.

Battlestar Galactica Deadlock has received quite a bit of praise on PC, so I was really looking forward to the console version. Thankfully theBattlestar Galactica Deadlock has received quite a bit of praise on PC, so I was really looking forward to the console version. Thankfully the console version delivered in almost every area, and whilst it suffered with a few minor problems these were easily forgotten because there was a lot of enjoyment to be had here. A game like this focuses a lot on strategy and thankfully the strategy in the game has been basically done to perfection, which is great. Another great aspect of the game is the combat, and I must admit that I had a huge amount of fun when in battle and I got a great sense of reward when winning a battle. I did however have a few problems when fighting in larger battles because you couldn’t always tell what was going on, but thankfully this was a relatively small problem. The simplicity in the game really impressed me because they managed to keep things simple and made things have a lot of depth at the same time, which in turn means it’s accessible to different gamers. That’s a great idea because there is plenty of content for all us gamers to sink our teeth into, and the best thing is that you don’t seem to get bored very often. You will notice though that the longer you play it you will bump into a few technical issues and these can cause some frustration, but thankfully these don’t occur very often. The presentation side of the game has been done to perfection and the best thing is that they’ve made it very authentic, which is great for fans. The visuals and sound design work together really well and add another layer of immersion to the gameplay, which is awesome. At the end of the day Battlestar Galactica Deadlock is better than I expected, and that’s a very good thing indeed. I didn’t expect it to have as much depth as it did and if they bring a patch out to iron out the little issues the game has then you will be talking about an even better game. Issues aside the game does more than enough to get a recommendation from me and it’s definitely worth putting your time and effort into it. Expand
